According to D2Football.com Tusculum has the best rushing defense in Division II football, having surrendered 118 yards total in 5 games (23 YPG). NDSU is 4th at 56.8 yards per game. Anyways, NDSU rushed 34 times against Tusculum for 162 yards! NDSU is obviously quite a few rungs up the ladder from most D2 teams from these stats. That said, Tusculum isn't far behind NDSU in what my mind are worthless polls. Hopefully an effective Bison Offense will show up saturday and the Defense will continue to shine against a tough Omaha offense. If the Bison can win this one, they will be well on their way deep into D2 Playoffs their final year!

How's this for an intersting stat?- Nearly (3 out of 8 ) half of all the Bison interceptions are by defensive lineman.

Interesting stat: against DII opposition, NDSU has given up a total of 12 yards in three games for an average gain of .25 yards per carry.

Huge test against UNO though. They're going to have to come out snorting, yet still play disciplined, to hold the Mavs under 150 yards on the ground.

Its amazing what coaching the fundamentals can do. I'm sure the Defensive coaches (D-Line coach in particular) have emphasized the importance of getting your hands up when rushing the quarterback. Obviously the coaching of fundamentals is paying dividends this season. Kudos to Coach McInerney, the D-Line and the rest of the coaching staff

Another interesting stat.

Right now, the Bison (at an avg attendance of 13079) would rank #14 in Division 1-AA.

Actually, NDSU would be 17th according to this chart; just behind Tennessee State. But with the team performing at a higher level like they are now, I would expect the Omaha game, the South Dakota game, and the Concordia-St. Paul games to be over that average mark.

Well, I suppose if I would have actually read the source of my data (http://www.dopke.com/ncaastats/IAA_Attendance.htm), I would have seen that it was 2002's averages, not this year's averages. *My bad. *Fair enough. * :-[

17th is not shabby at all... and I agree, if the Herd keeps piling up the W's, we may see this average increase. *However, with an additional Bison loss, USD isn't ever a really big draw and CSP may not excite people either. *Plus hunting season is around the corner. *

A sold out Fargo Dome filled with Bison Diehards for every game is what I hope to see soon!

I'll second that motion! :)

A Bison win this weekend would keep the ball rolling.

Is this wishful thinking on my part?

If the Bison keep winning, the last two games should be 15,000 plus+++. Omaha could be 16,000 this weekend. I-AA will bring a lot of fans in the future. The FM area is growing, NDSU is growing. Looks favorable, IMO when the I-AA move is completed.

How many of those fans will be faithful to the end, make some noise at the right times, and not just be bandwagon riders?

If I read the stats correctly NDSU has given up 11 sacks this year? Which was tops (bottom?) in the NCC? Maybe that was sacks by not against?

SACKS BY-YARDS
NDSU.....17-136
Opp.......11-85

NDSU has been sacked 11 times, and the defense has sacked to other guys 17 times.

The wagon jumpers are fine. They support the Bison with their $$$ for tickets. Some of them may eventually turn into diehards. But there may be a day when people that fall off the wagon find out there is not room to get back in. They might have to get on the season ticket waiting list.

there were about 10,500 at the Tusculum game, UCD had a little over 15,500, and the SDSU game saw about 14,800 fans. Thats an average of about 13,600/game so far. Winning seems to be doing the trick. By the end of last season we were down to a und sized crowd for a typical hilarious game, say 7,500 or so.

NDSU
Total Attendance 39,237
Average over 3 games 13,079

UND
Total Attendance 34,742
Average over 4 games 8685.5

I suppose we should be comparing to I-AA schools, instead of Division II schools.

All attendance statistics from GoBison.com:

A crowd of 10,581 fans were on hand as the Bison won their season opener for the 14th time in the last 16 years and their fifth straight opening win.

California-Davis used a solid running game and three field goals to knock North Dakota State from the ranks of the undefeated with a 23-14 intersectional college football game here Saturday night before 15,548 fans in the Fargodome.

There were 14,108 at the SDSU game (from the box score)

Total attendance: *10,581 + 15,548 + 14,108 = *40,237/3 = 13,412/game.

I was a little high. *It looks like youre a little low. *I dont know anything about und.

I didnt double check against the box score. As you can see, my info came from the story. But, if I remember correctly, they announced the 15,000 figure at the game.

As of Wednesday morning when i called the ticket office to order an additional 2 tickets for guests, the gal told me they were sitting at about 11,000 sold, she also told me Coach Bohl wants at least 15,000 in attendance (as do we all) Im bringing 7 from Jamestown this trip, Including 2 that are coming from Billings Montana for the game. Am trying to get a couple more, lets all get some people to the game and get them hooked on Bison Football. See you all Saturday !! GO BISON

I think the attendance figures would look even better if Tusculum came into town now. The first game of the year against an unknown unranked team coming off a 2-8 year lead to a smallish crowd. If we played them this weekend, with the renewed excitement of bison football and Tusculum ranked in the top 25 and winning games convincingly, I would predict a crowd at around 13500 or so, rather than a little over 10,000. I expect a good crowd this weekend, but the pheasant opener will hurt a bit. I am unable to make the game (elk hunt in colorado), but I gave my tickets to alumni who promised to go to the game and make some noise!!! Go bison.
