The Bison are looking forward to a GSU game. The Montana game was fun last year. We hear you have a lot of flags on your famous flag pole.

Thanks for the welcome. Hopefully NDSU can get some SoCon teams on the schedule in the future (preferrably in the playoffs). The NDSU AD managed to get two Southland teams on the schedule this year, and was talking to a certain SoCon school last year.

Hey,
NDSU runs a west coast ball control passing/running offense. We've got a veteran offensive line and a good veteran quarterback. Our top two runningbacks are a sophomore and a redshirt freshman. The Bison have a stable of good wideouts. Their offense will be the best part of their game. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up in 1AA.
Go Bison,

West Coast with a slight tendency towards the run, although last year was the first year of the WCO with a new coaching staff. The O Coordinator took a coaching job with the University of Cincinnati, so the offense might be slightly changed this year. A decent number of different formations, but most have two backs.

Stats- Look here- http://www.gobison.com/mens/football/stats/index.html

..........*Their offense will be the best part of their game........... *

Seriously? I thought the D would be the best part :-/. Some good depth at the D line, good LB's, and the secondary essentially returns (sans Sheppard). Actually, as long as the O line gets healthy, it's a tossup. ;D This should make for a good thread topic in a month or two.

well I took a look at the stats. *I know there isnt much comparison between the NCC and DI-AA in general, but some teams are pretty good. *In fact, SDSU and UNC are here with us. NDSU had a good schedule last year including U. of Montana, UCD and SDSU. *Ive looked at the NDSU stats for all games and the GSU stats for conference only.

It looks to me like NDSU had a higher pts/game average, did much better on scoring defense, did much better on passing offense (SDSU was the league leader), *our pass defenses were about equal with the edge to you guys, your rushing offense was much better than NDSU but when you looked at TDs scored on the ground you only had a slight edge,. *Offsetting any rushing advantage is the NDSU dominance of the running game in the NCC. *GSU wont get near their avg against the BISON. *The BISON on the other hand will have their way with GSU on the ground.

Giving you the advantage of the higher division, NDSU is probably your equal. *The difference might be Tony Stauss, or Kyle Steffes, or Dewight Summerville, or maybe Jay Kittelston. *You never know, but my bet is the BISON in a very good matchup. *

Our stats are good in conference but usually are higher when we play OC or playoff teams because they're unfamiliar with our offensive design & speed. Our first string QB was injured last year and we had some coaching problems but that has a been taken care of. I expect our stats to be up in the same range as the 1997-2000 mark. Our QB, wide outs and slot backs all have 4.4 speed & 2 of them have sub 4.3s. Our full back averages 100 ypg and his 40 times are around 4.6. We don't really worry about people holding our offense you have to outscore us to win

Yeah that sounds a little sub-human to me.

What do you do that is so incredbly special that no defense can stop it?

If you have the best players then you can run any loo-loo formation you want and be called a genius.

One is a track man that transferred from the University of Florida & both play at wide out. ( missprint 4.3s not 3s buff8675309 ) . I am sure about our QB, slots and full back stats. As far as winning we've had our share of successes

GSU does not send as many players to the NFL as do other 1aa teams but our players fit our system very well. I'm not trying to bust your cops BuffalowFan123456,9.5-8.

I used to live in Greenville, SC and GSU would make the sports page of the Greenville News rather often.....that is a tribute to your program as it was able to break through all the "Clemson noise" in the local media! I look forward to a future meeting between our teams.

Hey Talon I was looking at your stats again and I compared all games not just your conference stats. *Its going to be fun watching the SDSU game. *They have a very talented team that hasnt learned to win. *Their QB Brad Nelson is one of the best in the Great West Football Conference. *Our defense got to them last year, and finally their defense broke down. *Its going to be fun watching your fabled ground game. *SDSU is no stranger to facing down a tough running game.

The Georgia Southern/SD State matchup is a home and home series. I am not sure though (if it has even been announced) when the game will be in 2005.

GSUsTALON,

I don't know if you realized or not but NDSU used to run pretty much the same offense as you guys. That was the offense that won five DII national playoff titles and three more titles before there were playoffs.

NDSU has since moved to the West Coast type offense and now still runs the ball more than it passes.

I hope for a home and home series in the future with the Eagles. But will you play us? I see that you have yet to play Montana in the regualar season.

I really dont know why we are playing SD in a home/home match up. Its a little far to travil for the $$payoff. I guess we had to because we needed a game to fill the place of a SoCon team that dropped its football program. we took 13,ooo fans to the 1aa championship & UGA game but few of our fans would travil that far

Scholarship reductions in DII had a lot to do with it. It became difficult to get the depth of talent that was needed. A lot of area HS's also quit running the option, so getting local recruits (especially option QB's) became more difficult.

Doesn't GSU run more of a flexbone set? NDSU used to run the veer.

Check this out- The Pitch (http://www.bisonville.com/graphx/pitch.mov) - it's NDSU's version of "The Run" or whatever the GSU video is called.

Did u fill all 63 scholarships this year?

No. A school can only add 25 scholies in a year. NDSU will fund 54 or 56 for FB this year, up from DII's 36. Next year will see 60, and 63 in 2006.
