View Full Version : Which of our games will be televised this season?

I'm wondering if the networks/cable channels have decided which of our games to televise this year. I hope FOX Sports Net or College Football Network can televise our game at SDSU. (Sometimes I have daydreams of ABC doing regional coverage of our game at SDSU.:))

I hope we could also potentially get TV games for the Northwestern State, Northern Colorado and Cal-Davis games. Maybe FSN could come back to Greeley and do coverage for our game at UNC like they did in 2001.

Any word on the broadcasting front??

I don't Fox or ABC is going to do a game. They don't do AA games now. Maybe local channels, but not Fox. They do D1

CSTV hasn't released their I-AA schedule, but the NDSU/SDSU game was voted a game of the week on I-AA.org

The regional FOX networks do televise I-AA games, so hopefully they will pick up a Bison game.

AnswerMan,

I-AA is DI.

Ya, I get three or four I-AA games on my Fox Net Channels every week.

However, those 1AA teams are probably playing a 1A team.

The ones I saw were I-AA vs. I-AA.

Some of the latter play off games ARE on ESPN.

Well, since three of you claim the same thing, it must be true. *::)

BTW, when you say television, most normal people immediately think of standard cable (es. ESPN).

NOT the 20' dish mounted out in the cow pasture.

I recieve four regional FOX sports on CableOne. No dish required. *::)

Plus, the one most likely to carry NDSU games is on standard cable (channel 61)

Those pastures in the Twins Cities are getting pretty full of Satelite dishes.

I'd assume the cities have a plenty of DSS systems like many markets all over the nation.

The closest FoxSports affiliate is in the Twin Cities. They pretty exclusivly cover the Gophers.

Now, if the Bison ever play the Gophs...I'd assume that they'd be on.

I can guaranty that all the FoxSports Affiliates only cover professional sports and D1A college FB and BB.

Bisonfan1234,

You do understand the difference between your local Fox Station KVRR (American Idol, Who wants to Marry my dad, and other shows) and Fox Sports Net, don't you?

KVRR:

Fox Sports Net:

Are you sure you want to "guaranty" that they don't show I-AA football?

From the Jackrabbits board Sept. 18th 2003:

ok, I believe you I guess. But I have the basic 70 channel cable, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports, etc. The only I-AA games I see on TV are the finals and maybe semifinals. Now does Fox Sports East or something show UMASS vs. Deleware, maybe, but I don't see it here in the Midwest.

I-AA is not D1. It's I-AA. Yes, D1 in all other sports, but Division I-AA.

I get your point

I get FoxSports Chicago in Ames, and there was about 4 or 5 Gateway conference games on last year. Also, there was a Thursday night UNI game that was broadcast nationally on FoxSports.

The last time NDSU played at UNC I watched the game at the Hard Rock in Downtown Denver. It was nice, there was the BISON on several of the TVs and other DI games on the others. I hope they are televising this one too because I just found out I cant go.

Yes I understand the different between KVRR and FoxSports Mpls. I didn't notice that he was talking about KVRR and just assumed he was talking about FoxSports.

Local stations pick up games of interest for their local markets all the time. No big deal.

But that's only ONE market, again, no big deal. If NDSU got on FoxSports Mpls., they'd be on MANY different markets. However, FS-Mpls., typically only cover the Gophs.

I-AA is DI.

Please read this-http://www.i-aa.com/news/article_4.shtml

If you can find a NCAA DI-AA manual, I will concede. Fortunately for my point, all I-AA rules and regulations are contained in the NCAA DI manual-http://www.ncaa.org/library/membership/division_i_manual/2003-04/2003-04_d1_manual.pdf

Hey 1234, I thought you refused to use the "I" when referring to divisions becasue the NCAA is a "power-greedy authoritarian agency who cares more amount the semantics of their titles than they do about their athletes." Have you had a change of heart?

Bisonfan1234

No.

Someone actually took the time to set up a filter for D 1 to change it to DI.

Except for when they cover the D-II NSIC, and D-III MIAC.

It's my fault BisonFan1234 can't type in D followed by 1; I've set up the "censored word" feature to automatically change it to "DI". For a while it changed "d 1" to "dI" but that had some unexpected results.

Back to the topic, if Fox Sports MSP shows MIAC and NSIC games, I'd kind of expect them to show some NCC games (Mankato v SCSU, for example).

As for NDSU v SDSU - at the very least I hope that it becomes a Dakota-wide TV game that Fox Sports in MSP might pick up. Heck in the 1980's ABC or one of the major networks picked up NDSU at SDSU as one of their regional games*. I guess my point is that if the SDSU v NDSU game gets the backing of the states' governors and some national publicity, the game could well end up on a national network. Gotta start getting some full houses for it though.

* This game doesn't show up on the list of NDSU's televised games in the media guide but I swear I saw it. If anybody else can verify this, I'd appreciate it.

I have heard through the NDSU alumni association that the SDSU-NDSU game will be broadcast the same way the UND game has been in the past. I believe there are 35 satellite locations in the US so if you can't make it to Brookings, you can likely find an alumni event close to where you are at. I just hope the College Sports Network broadcasts the game so more people can watch it and it will have a broadcast crew that is unbiased to either side.

When I lived in the cities, the only time I ever saw non-UMN NCAA sports was the NSIC showcases, which I would hardly call sports.

Well, looks like there's a good chance the UC Davis - NDSU game will be on TV - some station in ND will probably pick it up.

You think maybe WDAY could pick up the Cal-Davis game if it's being broadcast in Central California??

Maybe. :-/ The costs for a satellite feed out of Sacramento was ridiculous when WDAY attempted to cover the 2002 game in Davis.

The NCAA Division I requires that all major sports (basketball and football) are Division I. *Football is the only sport that has subclassifications.

If it's simply that, why the need for 1AAA?

I-AAA is a football subclassification for schools that don't sponsor football.

I-AAA is a football subclassification for schools that don't sponsor football.

Why bother? Why not just call them D 1 schools? Afterall, they have no sports that aren't simply called D 1.

So, if you're going to use any "A" subclass, you should start calling that entire school by that subclass: ex UMN =1A, NDSU = 1AA, Denver = 1AAA.
