Looks like the roster is finally up on the gobison.com site-http://www.gobison.com/mens/football/roster/

Looks like it's fairly current- Mark Sanders is not listed, but Terrance Flemming is still listed on the team ???-

Others no longer listed that were on the Spring Game roster-
#21 Eric Miller,SS
#29 Alex Wiese, HB
#31 Patrick Brons, CB
#40 Jason DePolo, FB
#41 Corey Weber, SS
#49 Matt Weidler, LB/FB
#52 Mark Sanders, OG
#80 Donte Pettis, WR
#83 Adrian Herry, DE
#95 Rodney Thompson, DL
#97 Cory Campbell, DE

Anybody have any info?

I thought I heard or read that Campbell was asked to leave due to academics (sorry Bisonfan1234, academics do matter!!!) Was Donte the replacement punter or was he the QB/WR? The rest I don't know anything about...

Neither, Donte would be a Junior this year. He also participated in track and BB at NDSU.

Rodney Thompson is listed in the recruits area.

Would have any of these players been "cut" to make room for scholarships?

Bob,

Thanks for allowing me not to lose any sleep over the D line ;D ;D Forgot Thompson is a 'new' recruit, even though he was at the Spring Game.

Perhaps Donte decided to transfer after finally figuring out he wouldn't get to play.

I believe Donte and Alex Weise ended up going to Winona State.

Thats interesting Bisondad. I think St. Johns and a couple of the NSIC teams, well UMD in now NCC, have done well with NDSU transfers. I know some of the St. Johns fans have told me they are excited about the NDSU move to DI and hope they will continue to benefit from some of our transfers. I imagine Winona is feeling the same way?

It is normal for players to drop from the team after one or two years for a number of reasons. So I dont see anything to worry about.

I see that NDSU transfer Jamie Steffensmeier is a preseason All-America pick for St. John's. Most of them that get away probably feel they won't get any playing time. Jamie was a good one though.

Go Bison,
Bob H.

Or perhaps they were sick of the coaches.

Our coaches are top notch. I wouldn't blame the coaching staff for this. These kinds of transactions in the off-season are nothing unusual.

I'm definately not.

I'm just saying perhaps they didn't like the coaches style or something to that effect.

Everybody has to remember they're just kids. Maybe they left to be closer to home. Maybe their major was too hard. Maybe they have a girlfriend someplace else. You're going to have attrition in any football program. We just had too much of it under Babich. ;)

I've always thought it'd be good for NDSU to follow-up with transfers to see why they left. In DI it's critical to have good graduation rates.

In most cases players probably transfer due to lack of playing time... there are exceptions though. Take Jamie Steffensmeier - he'd have had a good shot at being a starter for his whole career.

According to the St. Cloud paper, Cory Weber might end up being the starting RB at St. John's this year. Alex Weise wasn't in the top two at RB (although that can always change quickly) and Winona State is very close to his hometown. Hopefully he has a good career there and gets his degree. Matt Weilder was a heck of a player in HS... too bad.

Attrition was rampant in the Babich years and it probably would be a good idea to follow up on those that have left and have the results go to the coach and the AD.

I agree. Doesn't Jamie hold the MN record for career tackles? I believe he did when he went to Mankato -East

Someone told me that Matt Weidler had to quit do to injury. He received to many concussions. He is staying at NDSU and helping out the program and there is a rumor he may try baseball.

Steffensmeier did go to Mankato - East but I do not know about his record. He may have left do to family reasons, but I can only speculate.

But Saint Cloud is still 136 mi. from Mankato.

I think I'm correct, but Bob Holiday, can you help us on this? I believe there was something on your site concerning Jamie's records.

Bisonfan1234 - I know that st. cloud is 130 miles from mankato but it wasn't "at home" that I was alluding too. My family is friends with his HS coach, so we followed the team.

That's too bad about Matt Weidler, but concussions aren't anything to mess with.

Jamie's brother and (I think) some friends went to St. John's. Can't remember where I saw it but the Steffensmeier brothers built a house. Anyway, that probably had a lot to do with him transferring. I kind of think Cory Weber followed them there too.

Schemer..... This was his signing day bio.....

LB Jamie Steffensmeier, 6'1 205 lbs., Mankato East H.S. (MN), Minnesota First Team All-state. Jamie is the leading tackler in East history with 260 solos and 364 assists which is also a Minnesota state record. Has a twin brother (Tony) who played running back for Mankato East.

Can anyone confirm whether or not Terrance Flemming is still on the team? He's still listed on the newly updated
roster on the GoBison site (where Mays has the #8 ;D)-http://www.gobison.com/mens/football/roster/

I'd like to see him return the first DI kickoff in the dome for a TD ;D :o ;D

From what I've heard, he told a handful of players he was leaving and heading back home.... but he decided to stick it for his last year of football. Good for him...
