Here's the Bison news from today's The Forum:

Sports Forum: North Dakota State football bumps home night games up one hour
The Forum
Published Wednesday, June 23, 2004
North Dakota State is turning back the clock this fall – in starting times for its football games.

The first three home games at the Fargodome against Valparaiso (Ind.), Montana Tech and Carson-Newman (Tenn.) will start at 6 p.m. Night games the last few years started at 7.

NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor said a survey conducted last year was split about 50/50 on having a preference of day or night games.

"But one thing that was a clear indicator was that 7 is too late," Taylor said. "People who drive in from a fair distance said 7 was 'too late for us' and they asked if it could be moved back."

Taylor also said media coverage was a factor. Games starting at 7 p.m. ran up against deadlines for television stations and newspaper outlets.

The last three home games – Southern Utah, California Poly and Northwestern State (La.) – are 1 p.m. starts.

AUGUST

28 Valparaiso 6 p.m.

SEPTEMBER

4 at Northern Colorado 1 p.m.

11 Montana Tech 6 p.m.

18 Carson-Newman (Tenn.) 6 p.m.

25 Open date

OCTOBER

2 at Nicholls State (La.) 4 p.m.

9 at South Dakota State 7 p.m.

16 Southern Utah 1 p.m.

23 Cal Poly 1 p.m.

30 Northwestern State (La.) 1 p.m.

NOVEMBER

6 at Weber State (Utah) 2 p.m.

13 at Cal Davis 3 p.m

The leg injury NDSU-bound fullback Tyler Roehl suffered in the Badland's Bowl all-star football game last weekend was nothing more than cramps

I dont know what number he will be wearing, but incoming freshman BB recruit extraodinare Brent Winkleman (sp) is rumored to be strongly considering going out for football too as a wide receiver. He is 6-6 with speed and leaping ability.

Mankato East High School should be the important information.

bisonfan1234,

I realize that Mankato East is important but Madison Lake is part of school district 77 (which houses Mankato East and West HS's). Madison Lake is maybe 7 to 10 miles out of Mankato and is about 1500 or so in size.

My point is that he can be from Anycity, MN. What high school program he played for is the important thing when considering the collegiate potential of a high school athlete.

Have you ever heard of "GREAT PLAYERS" on "CRAPPY TEAMS"? Collegiate potential doesn't depend on what high school progam an athlete comes from. An athlete is an athlete no matter what school and program they come from.

I suppose that's why Brad Nelson went from Winona to Rosemont in HS.

Great players can be on crappy teams, but they're a lot more likely to get noticed if they go to a school with a good team

Bisonfan1234

I think the saying should be this:

Collegiate potential doesn't depend entirely on what high school progam an athlete comes from.

Yes, an athlete can run fast and jump high at any school. But who teaches you technique is critical to your development.

Also, like someone said, it's easier to get noticed on a good team.

TheBisonator

All I will say about that is this:

I went to St. Louis Park (MN) HS, graduated in 2001. The football team (I played, then later coached for them) is probably one of the absolute worst in the state of Minnesota. SLP hasn't had a winning season since 1975. That's 29 years. Also, SLP's overall record since 1993 is 15-87. They had a 38-game losing streak from 1993-1997. They haven't won a conference road game since 1992.

And SLP High School has not seen a football player go to a DI program in at least 20 years.

So yes, I think the quality of one's high school team has something to do with it.
