That is up to the coach but he has stated in the past that once a player enters the portal they are done being part of the team.

Just guessing, but rather than be a backup to Avery Johnson at KState, Jake Robley entered the Transfer Portal looking for a chance to be a starter. Looks like Coach ‘Stache at Illinois State will give him the opportunity (I don’t know what the Redbirds have for QB’s on their current roster)

Last year's starter Zack Annexstead (who was a former Gopher I believe) is out of eligibility after putting together a very good season. Their backup Rittenhouse struggled to lead his offense to points in limited action this year and last year IIRC so I'm sure it'll be a competition for the starting job at worst for Robley.

Sure, but I imagine that just about everyone who leaves a program puts their name in the portal now. In the pre portal days there were lots of guys who left programs but their names never got aggregated in a nationwide report.This is only tracked since the portal. There are also more players in there it will be easier to get lost even if you are a good player. Unlike high school recruiting where they are tracking the player for a couple seasons. With all the top FBS players in the portal I can see more of the FCS kids getting lost as well.

These days "all american" seems to mean P5 payday. They'll take a guy like this over a high school 4 star.

One interesting nugget I picked up during the broadcast is the announcers had asked Gronowski if he had been contacted by anyone. He told them no. I find that very hard to believe, but who knows.

They said he told them “he” hadn’t been contacted. CW said himself on Izzo’s show that he himself was never contacted directly.

The media knows this but it allows them to ask a question, get an answer and report on it. If they asked the real question “have any schools contacted you or someone you’re connected with?” The player would have to lie and eventually they would all refuse to answer.

Then used his transfer without a year of ineligibility to go to montana. Now, he must of graduated and using his graduate transfer to not sit out. I am guessing this is how he has multiple transfers without having to sit out a year.
