Not much needs to be said on this one.... Its ORU....Its the championship game...8pm on ESPN2.

Lets go dancing!

I've got a very odd feeling about this game - moreso than any other SLT title game I've got little expectation of them winning. That could be a good thing since the pressure is all on ORU and there's absolutely none on NDSU. Even if NDSU loses ORU is much better positioned to win a game in the round of 64 in the tournament so I'll be looking at the result tonight as a win/win scenario.

Ending SDSU's season in emphatic fashion will be a sweet highlight to this season no matter what happens tonight. :)

Go Bison! Play like there's nothing to lose because there literally isn't.

Attacking the basket and getting to the FT line early and often big key to this game; oh, and making FTs is kinda important, too. How did Andrew Morgan learn to be successful at the line in the past 24hrs?

I think Morgan is a guy who needs to feel important. Get him off to a great start. Getting their bigs into foul trouble is key. Morgan is good when he has his swagger. He can vanish. We need him! That is key to me. He can dominate. Unique body type. Be the aggressive kid.

So to turn the subject to our favorite little opposing head coach to hate on - how telling is it that Paul Mills took a team like Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 2 years ago and still hasn't parlayed that into a better job? They're sitting one spot outside the AP Top 25 right now. If he's still at ORU next year you can be pretty sure it's not just our NDSU bias that's showing through when it comes to his personality issues.

I would be surprised if Mills is back at ORU next season. I think he has been building ORU for Abmas' final season and will spring-board that up the coaching ladder in the offseason.

Personally, I hope that he stays. He has made ORU very strong. An NDSU/SDSU/ORU top of the Summit League is much better than the league was when NDSU first joined. Also I like having opposing coaches that you love to hate (Kampe @ Oakland, & Sutton @ ORU come to mind).

Keys tonight:
DWT needs to lock up Abmas like he did to Mayo last night. That was almost a "Kory Brown" level of effort last night from him on the defensive end. If NDSU lets Abmas run wild, its over and doesn't matter what else happens.

On offense: Grant will get his 20+ & Boden will get his 15. NDSU needs that 3rd scoring threat. At least one of DWT, Morgan or Miller needs another breakout game tonight. Dave's shortened the rotation to essentially 6 guys (plus Streit for fouls on Vanover tonight).

Crazy thing is I think Abmas could use his COVID year and come back again next year if he really wanted to.

I’ve wondered the last 2 years, what’s the Abmas/Obanor relationship is like today, and the ORU fan take on both players? Just think if KO was still playing for ORU, they’d be that much stronger. High major good.

I guess we’d be pretty strong with Griesel, Eady and Hays too.

True, but Max has made it clear his fourth season with ORU will be his last. What remains to be seen is whether he goes pro, or plays a fifth year for a P5 program.

Regardless, he will remain one of the more beloved ORU players in history; he could have bolted either of the past two season and no one would have blamed him, but he chose to stay. ORU and the Summit League all benefitted.

Which Grant Nelson shows up tonight?

In the home game vs ORU this year, first half he went 19pt 4reb 1blk 1stl and NDSU was down 5 at half. Second half he had 2pt 2reb 1ast 2to and NDSU got blown out.

One of my favorite days of the year. I have a good feeling about this game. I made the comment in the last ORU GDT that they were beatable and gave me hope for the Summit Tourney and here we are.

ORU has all the pressure on them. We have none. Play loose, limit turnovers, get in their face on defense and play to win. We can do this. We'll need 4 guys in double figures and one of them has to be Morgan. He has to be the confident, physical, smart version of himself and make FTs like he did last night.

Draw the fouls to get him out of the game, whether he gets blocked, makes it, misses it - try and get fouls to do what’s going so we can at least start penetrating and not taking lean back soft rainbows everytime we get in the lane

You can say anyone in Summit League would've lost to ORU the way they played tonight but I'd say the Bison would've lost to anyone in the Summit League the way they played tonight. As good as ORU is they made them look way better with lazy defense/box outs and no offensive aggressiveness.

Still the end of the season is something they can build on going into next year if they can retain the contributors. Hopefully that wasn't Grant Nelson's last game as a Bison because it was a forgettable one.

Point is before we crown ORU as a great team, a little perspective on how bad the Summit was this year and the teams that ORU beat are. ORU is ranked 10 spots behind the 13th team in the Big 10 that is having their worst season in 25 years.

Great season Grant Nelson, all the best in your future!

Young guards were EXPOSED tonight again...cmon people
Cant guard ball screen--fight over....and poor shot selection...play through Grant to help open up easier opportunities...not sure whyyy insisted to dump to Morgan in mid post up since he cant drive or great passer out of double teams....2-13 3's isnt gonna win any big game!

Our style is just a bad matchup. You beat them by shooting 3's and midrange jumpers. Their center is next level and he was in their heads. We dont have anyone to match up against him. I hate that style of basketball that involves launching thees but duh. Only way to beat ORU

ORU beat NDSU by 30, SDSU by 40 and USD by 50. Oddly UND and St Thomas played them close

Our style is just a bad matchup. You beat them by shooting 3's and midrange jumpers. Their center is next level and he was in their heads. We dont have anyone to match up against him. I hate that style of basketball that involves launching thees but duh. Only way to beat ORU

Next year will be our year

The only other way to match up is to have a big that can play above the rim and get their crotch in a 7-5 centers face. The guy is 7-5 but he's a bean pole. Need muscle inside like Dex and some flying elbows. That guy can be pushed around but you cant shoot over him

ORU looks like an elite NCAA tournament team. They could play with anybody. I wonder how they got those players.

You nailed it. ORU is a really good mid-major basketball team and they are going to be a tough out for anyone in the tournament. They have size inside, good guards and a superstar in Abmas. That being said, they aren't as good as we made them look last night and they aren't as good as the Summit League made them look this entire season.

That type of team should be the goal for NDSU. I know it's not attainable to have that type of team every year in the Summit but with legitimate funding, good coaching/player development and some luck it isn't some impossible, unattainable dream. Making excuses about why we can't get there more consistently isn't going to do anything. A 27-30 win team every so often with 22-25 win teams consistently should be the standard for NDSU in the Summit. A really solid mid-major basketball team should win 13-15 games in Summit Conference play. Get another 7-10 wins OOC and your in that 20-25 win range every year. The competition in this league, or lack thereof, should be more incentive to push to be the absolute dominant force. Look what we have accomplished so far and in my opinion the administration hasn't done much to get behind the program. If they showed some more support, I don't think it is too far fetched to think that we couldn't absolutely become the clear #1 program in the conference and position ourselves for opportunities to build a national reputation outside of the Summit.

Nonsense. I have been ASSURED that our ceiling is exactly where we are at and yesterday is perfectly acceptable.

Aside from running into a buzz saw, 13 3's, having to play 3 day's
in a row had to be tough on this young team against a team that
had played one game with a day's rest. Probably never played
back to back games all year.

While I was disappointed last night, that ORU team will win at least 1 NCAA game. My goodness, they are good.

He does seem quite happy with himself.
What a perfect day for him to gloat on Bisonville!!!
Bison had a bad game coaching.
Bison had a bad game playing.
Bison had a bad game on the scoreboard, he doesn’t have to contend with NDSU making the NCAA’s again……

If the Bison MBB team had half the grit and fortitude of our Chapo Challengers, they would have only lost by 15… proud of my challengers today. Just hoping this momentum carries us into football season…
