Entz back to DC, get a new head coach, who says no?

I saw the UND Helmet Car parked outside Entz's office and Bubba walking in wearing a suit and carrying a portfolio with a resume. CAS did say he wanted to go back to a 3-4 so there's your guy.

Throw in free rides in the Car for Team Maker renewals, and Bubba has the job

Why not make an offer to SDSU's DC? Worst case is he says 'no' and makes sdsu cough up some cash to keep him. At minimum, it screws with Stig a bit and he has to make an unexpected Joose run.

I don't know if NDSU can offer enough $ to entice him......

"It consumes me, to be honest," Rogers confesses, sitting at a desk covered in old-school playbook pages. "Not hoisting the Marker. Don't ask what that feels like because I've never done that. Not as a player or a coach. I let the other guys do that. I don't want to be running to that and miss my favorite part."

And, what's that, Coach?

"Watching them walk off the field. Watching them have to leave that field knowing they have lost."

Not going to get their DC, I think he's Stigs replacement at some point but I'd go after one of their assistants.

Sources: Northwestern is expected to hire South Dakota State defensive line coach Christian Smith to the same role, completing its on-field coaching staff for 2023.

Smith has been at SDSU since 2017, and is a former captain at Toledo under Matt Campbell. @JohnDBrice1 first.

Good news: ForumComm can FOIA the crap out of NDSU for applicant names.
Indifferent news: It means they're looking outside (an internal hire/promotion wouldn't be externally posted, it'd be done already).
Bad news: This external posting means two weeks posted minimum, plus interviews.

Chuck the pigskin doesn’t compute with the search for a new DC.

Chuck the pigskin doesn’t compute with the search for a new DC.

The posting does not say "defense" or "coordinator".
It's out there (at least to me) as a "let's see who applies" posting by not using those two words.

I could see NDSU look for a "pass game specialist" and then moving a coach from offense to defense (if they have their DC already internally).

On this sight? yes. On our current coaching staff? Hard no. Can’t manage the clock but somehow manage to switch to the opposite side of the ball they coach. Me thinks not. Either way I’d like to here something.

According to ACC stats, Duke's defense was 4th out of 14 teams in rushing defense, 12th in pass defense, and 10th in overall defense.

When you are sending coaches straight to P5 from FCS, that’s the sign of a really good FCS program, not a struggling one

It just speaks to the fact that NDSU is on another level compared the majority of the MVFC, despite what the naysayers project … and we know who they are

It’s on Entz now to find equally good replacements

You could say the same thing about the players, although I wondered why 10 didn’t start in Frisco. Don’t think I saw him at all in the first half. That puzzled me TBH

Same.
Normally ND requires public positions to be posted for two weeks.
Makes me wonder if that was a screw-up and was supposed to be an "internal" posting that slipped external.

He is running Matt Entz's Bison defense he isn't bringing the Nick Hill's defense from SIU with him. He will most likely provide fresh ideas and possibly tweaks to how the Bison do certain things.

Northwestern didn’t seem to mind Braun’s last couple of games, which were two of his most important ones from a recency perspective.

The head coach sets the schemes and sets how they are called. Bohl went through a ton of coordinators and his system was basically the same with every coordinator.

Klieman added Messingham because he wanted to improve the passing game but the offense was still basically the same with some slight adjustment to route concepts.

Klieman tweaked Bohl's schemes, Entz tweaked Klieman's schemes and now this is the first coordinator change for Entz. I venture there won't be a huge change from what Bison fans are used to seeing under Entz.

Klieman surprised me when he changed his defense to the Iowa State 3-3-5 defense and basically abandoned his main calling card as far as scheme from NDSU.

Cousin of Bobby Petrino. Would have to imagine they talk football occasionally.
Hopefully has a high football IQ, maybe can add some new wrinkles we haven't seen before.

Could turn out great if we become a little less predictable for the jacks and others to game plan.

New Defensive Coorinators are expected to learn the Bison defense, including terminology so the players can play fast

But that doesnt mean he wont bring his own wrinkles or style.

But looking at what SDSU historically did to his SIU defenses... basically allowed 40+ every game
