"The state board also gave approval for NDSU to go ahead with a formal fundraising campaign for a $2 million indoor softball hitting facility at Ellig Sports Complex. The need will arise, according to NDSU's project description, because the sharing of space with the football practice facility would not be feasible.

It would be located immediately north of the softball stadium and comprise about 11,000 square feet. The building would include separate team meeting rooms, storage, offices and men's and women's restrooms."

That would be big time for the softball program

There was just a post about this in another thread. The amount was increased from $ 2 mill to $ 2.6 mill and sounded like they are close to hiring an architect.
Wish I could find the other post.

I found the article. It was in the Forum yesterday but was included in another article about the IPF. https://www.inforum.com/sports/bison-media-zone/mens-sports/bison-media-blog-indoor-football-facility-clears-last-hurdle-softball-indoor-next

"NDSU wasn't done with its presentations, either. The athletic department also got approval to increase the price tag of a privately raised indoor softball facility from $2 million to $2.6 million.

It will be built adjacent to the home dugout along the third-base line at NDSU's Tharaldson Park. Preliminary work started almost two years ago but the athletic department will now begin the process of hiring an architect for further design and cost estimates.

In a perfect world, Larsen said he would like to see construction start this summer or fall and have it ready for the 2023 season. Fundraising is close to being finished, he said.

"Obviously costs have gone up for that project," Larsen said, "so we're trying to maximize the funds we do have to get the most out of that project.""

11K square feet is really good sized. For reference, the Fargo Ball Yard next to Savers is 18K square feet. It's going to make the fan experience better too with permanent concessions and restrooms.

Another great project by Larson and Phelps and they are doing this while doing the new track & field complex and more upgrades at Dacotah Field. (new lights and remodeling the press box)
