I think what we've typically seen in the last few years are getting those types of athletes after this early signing period, with a couple of schollies remaining. IIRC Kobe Johnson was a late signee from GA.....correct me if I'm wrong.

Man, that would suck... NDSU was his first offer way back in June and he's been verbally committed since 7/1. His twitter bio still lists him as an NDSU commit and as recently as a couple weeks ago he seemed very much still committed: https://twitter.com/DomIzzoWDAY/status/1466988012173209604. But I guess if a P5 comes calling you can't blame the guy...

Might have something to do with having no seniors RBs on the roster. They've got 4 juniors (counting Luepke), 3 sophs, and 3 freshman on the roster currently. Seth Wilson is a senior listed on the roster but I wonder if he's going to try to use his COVID year and make one more go at it next fall???

This is all my speculation, I have facts or haven't heard anything. Just he plays at East Ridge HS along with Logan Larson, whose NIL is already in.

It's the same reason the NSIC teams like Duluth and Mankato do well. There is a ton of talent in Minnesota but not many D1 options. That's why St Thomas was great in D3 and is already very good in non scholarship D1.

NDSU got 12 of the top 55 players in Minnesota or 21%. St Thomas got 7. Duluth 6. UND 6. MSU Mankato 3. USD - 1 SDSU - 0 Northern Iowa 0. Illinois State 1.

The Gophers only signed 5 of the top players from Minnesota. Obviously they recruit more southern and go after 4-5 star kids, but still.

That kid looks like a heck of an athlete. He played TE and DE. Although his Junior hudl says he is 6-4, which a few recruiting sites question his height. Either way if he's 6-1, he looks to be in the mold of a Tony Pierce, at least frame wise and being athletic. Probably an edge rusher

whos the biggest "Get" of the class?

This class did a great job of sticking to the northern footprint, which is probably a way to keep attrition low in the transfer portal world.

I think this class is heavier on developmental guys. Lots of tall athletic skinny guys with frames to become great players. They will take a few years, but ultimately when Kramer is done with them, we will have some studs. It's the best way to sustain a program.

Josh Magin - 6-5, 230 DT/DL
Max Rader - 6-6 250 OL
Kelton McCaslin, 6-4, 206 DE
Ben Goldy, 6-7, 294 OL

Trevor Brown is the guy I think will make an impact early. Reminds me of Schaetz

Bigger names are Zenzen (I assumed he would go to Iowa State), Hegerle, Collins and Anene. Darius Givance is a steal.

Lot of good height and frames

Has anyone asked Entz or Eano about roster limits? They've got 114 players on the roster now and if they only lose the 10-12 seniors that are confirmed or rumored to be leaving and add say 3-5 more incoming freshman in the late signing period that's almost 140 guys on the roster. I thought 125 was the max?

Why?? They are on the team and roster management is part of college sports. Coaches keep the guys that help and cut loose the guys that don’t. I think not counting a “super seniors” scholarship towards the total would lead to teams loading up on transfers.

The beginning of the end to college sports people. IMHO

Yep only a matter of time. Hard to justify the expense of college athletics at public institutions when this becomes the norm. Might as well call it the minor leagues at this point and cut it out of the educational system.

Why?? They are on the team and roster management is part of college sports. Coaches keep the guys that help and cut loose the guys that don’t. I think not counting a “super seniors” scholarship towards the total would lead to teams loading up on transfers.

Any way you cut this, there is less opportunity for scholarship dollars as a whole since some players are eating them an extra year. Those should not count, period. I'm thinking about this from the perspective of the percentage of players that can be on scholarship that are eligible to be on teams.

Listening to that presser yesterday just made me realize how little I really know about football.

Time for some serious NCAA reform (including taking football back) - and time to kick the SEC et al out if they don't agree. If you turn the management of college sports over to the SEC, you are really turning it over to media conglomerates.

So, can someone explain this? Sound like there was NIL connection to this?

Is there anything in the current N.I.L model to keep Buddy Garrity from giving a $million/year endorsement deal to promising recruit as long as they are playing for TMU?

Are we sure that didn’t happen elsewhere yesterday?

I am pretty sure the extra year players do NOT count against the scholarship limits.

If Road being pretty sure isn't good enough:

NCAA Extra Year of Eligibility | Coronavirus Rules (ncsasports.org) (https://www.ncsasports.org/coronavirus-sports/ncaa-eligibility-coronavirus)

"For D1 fall sports, seniors who have scholarships and who will be using the extra year of eligibility will not count against the team’s scholarship limit for the 2021-22 season."

College football super seniors could change fortunes in 2021 – The Denver Post (https://www.denverpost.com/2021/02/28/college-football-super-seniors/#:~:text=Super%20seniors%20are%20defined%20as%20pl ayers%20who%20would,numbers%20for%20each%20team%20 are%20subject%20to%20change.)
Isn't that only for this season though? I thought going forward super seniors will count towards scholarship limits.

Dom sure seemed to think the same which is why I ranted on it. This issue does not go away for 4 years since no years counted for anyone.......
