Bussey is Soo hard to see and with our big backs swing the tone physically the defense adjusts to their speed. Bussey comes in and is gone! I'm continually amazed at how he uses that speed to have contact angles with defenders allowing him to fall forward. Just doesn't take the big hits cause they miss the angle on him

He's a good quarterback and doesn't seem to have any issues with his size. Has heart, but we are going to be a completely different animal for him.

Thanks. After watching parts of these, ETSU’s QB is definitely not a major run threat, and he is not very physically strong it appears.

I do like their O-scheme tho. They mix it up and have efficient/productive misdirection plays, with pretty good timing. Of course, that was against opponents like Furman, etc.

I think KSU was the better team, but had a bad game. That onside kick was the difference.

A little oppo research re: Saturday's game. My son is a sophomore at ETSU. Visited him during Family Weekend earlier this fall and took in the game against Wofford.

The Buccaneers are a decidedly run-first team. The quarterback is a gamer and crafty but is limited as a thrower. Their defense is inconsistent.

This has been a magical season for ETSU, and fans in the region have rallied around the team, which is saying something because all roads lead to Knoxville and Big Orange in the fall. Fun team to root for.

That said, I'd be surprised if NDSU doesn't win by at least three scores. I've seen a few games of each team, and NDSU looks more physical across the board and more skilled at the positions that matter.

People from eastern Tennessee are nice folks, so be kind to them as they spread their money around in the hotels, restaurants and bars in the F-M area. I have a feeling they're going to be miserable for three hours Saturday afternoon.

Might be, but we’ve had playoff games in the past that were way to close for comfort against teams we were heavily favored over.

Also, nee opponents bring new are fun. As a player, there is always a wrinkle that you don’t see/pick up on film. Nuance things, like how they block, play-action look, etc. You think you know what your seeing, but then it’s different in the actual game.

Looking forward to this one actually. If it is a blowout, so be it I guess, but still gonna be fun IMO.

If I were them I'd try screen us to death and run lots of play action. They looked better run blocking than pass blocking in the games I watched. Thoughts?

Entz says in his presser that Watson's ability to get back out there with his bad hamstring is a "pain tolerance thing"... seems kind of counter-intuitive to a typical soft tissue injury. Usually it seems like with those injuries coaches/trainers have to save the player from themselves by holding them out rather than risk reaggravating the injury.

He also says Gindorff is having surgery on Wednesday and that he "doesn't know if he'll be playing for NDSU again this year but he doesn't think he's done playing". Guessing he's done for the season but not sure if that means he's re-evaluating whether he'll use his COVID year and come back in '22 or if he means he'll be playing in the pros after this???

Agreed... seemed to be a very odd comment to make with a hamstring injury. Of course Entz being as clear as mud when it comes to injuries doesn't help matters but it probably doesn't matter in the end anyway. Either he's healthy enough to play or he isn't... like was mentioned in another thread I'd expect them to hold out Watson if he's at any significant risk of reinjury by playing since they'll probably need him a lot more next week than they will this week.

Reading their board a bit it is interesting when a team pops up in the playoffs even with an engaged fanbase they seem to know very little about NDSU. Either their FCS interest is so new or locally focused, they know very little about the train rolling down the tracks they're excited to be on.

Fans of FCS teams that don't consistently make the playoffs really don't follow the season after their teams are done for the year.

But I expect ETSU to come in with a nothing to lose attitude and some confidence having beat Vanderbilt and with last weekend’s cardiac comeback. Say what you want about Vanderbilt but any FCS team knocking off an SEC program deserves some respect. And they can build off last weeks win as a sign of destiny. A chip and a chair, they have both. Take nothing for granted which I don’t think the team or coaches will do. I expect a somewhat close game at half due to limited possessions as both teams look to operate methodically on offense with NDSU pulling away in the second half as the o-line grinds on their undersized d-line.

They have been come from behind warriors this year (won 5 games where they were behind).

All their games are bus trips (no planes).

Some of the Defensive guys played 70 snaps last week against Kennesaw State. They play a 3 - 4 on defense similar to what Richmond played against us a few seasons ago from what I watched so far. More read and react.

We have more seniors starting on defense than they have on entire team.

We do have a home and home with them in starting 2024/2026.

Starting center for ETSU is Joe Schrieber is a former Bison (on 2018 and 2019 roster) from EP. Appeared against Butler only game played.

Last game against Kennesaw they gave up 287 yards rushing (56 attempts) 457 yards total / they rushed for 70 on 26 attempts total yards 308.

This is not true. It's not the Fargodome, but the school built an on-campus stadium a few years ago, and for its size it's a very nice facility.

I was there for the Wofford game this year. It was a fun atmosphere. Again, not Fargodome loud, but a definite game-day feel with a genuine tailgate scene. And you can't beat the scenery. A beautiful part of the country.

This is what I have tried to convey on this board. SoCon, unfortunately, has fallen behind. Institutions like NDSU, JMU and others are non P5 FBS schools in FCS disguise. All they have to do is add 22 scholarships. They have the facilities and the support already in place.

SoCon hasn't been relevant in years. Last time they made the quarters was 2017 when a 7 seed Wofford lost 42-10 to NDSU.

They put 4 in the playoffs in 2016 and only one (Wofford) made it to the quarters.

8 seed Chatty lost in quarters in 2014

Have to go all the way back to their glory years with Georgia Southern to get a SoCon team in the semis (2012 being last appearance).

Since GaSo left, they have been terrible. I expect a game similar to the conference's last quarters appearance in 2017.

I remember listening to the Mississippi Valley State game on the radio and the band played incredibly loud and never stopped, even through the plays. It was pretty dang funny listening to Scotty and Phil struggling to concentrate to broadcast the game at times.

So, last Saturday in the spirit of playoff football, I dispatched my extremely wonderful wife to the very legit Texas BBQ biz just north of us here in Hanover for some goodies for the game. She brought back over $100 worth of slow smoked brisket, baby back ribs, Mac n cheese, brisket burnt ends, baked beans and Cole slaw for my Saturday round 2 game experience. For an army of 1.

I could not finish.

Let that sink in. I could not finish even though ambrosia was on my table.

I’m gonna fix that just now and clean it up.

I'd guess there will be fewer than the 12,500 that were there for the SIU game. Every year since we quit selling out playoff games (since 2017) there has been fewer people at the quarterfinal game than at the 2nd round game.

That said we'll probably still have the highest attended quarterfinal since both the Montana schools are going on the road and JMU has even bigger issues selling playoff tickets.

That's how it's always been. This weekend is kind of a wasteland for football since the only FBS game is Army/Navy. By next weekend the bowl games are kicking up so ESPN televises those on the mothership and relegates the FCS semis to the deuce.

Yes. They play from under center and will go to shotgun/pistol. One thing I’ve seen is that they have a tendency for short passes to RBs in pistol/shotgun. Not sure if it’s check down or called play. Also not sure whether they really have an over the top WR. Seems moreso that they look for chunk plays out of play action.

Huzzie (#9) is a pretty good receiver but SIU probably had better receivers and the Bison DBs handled them pretty well last week. Just need to keep that up.
