Just seemed appropriate to have a thread for him.

Why can't he win after getting ranked? I think he's 0-4 now in games after they reach the rankings. I thought K-State would be doing better than they are by now. He can't seem to solve OSU or West Virginia.

It does hurt to lose his starting QB (again) and best starting DE.

I realize I'm just talking to myself here, but three game slide = no good. Gene Taylor's FCS hire is not looking smart right now. Any thoughts on why K-State is so inconsistent under Klieman?

This.

In the last 20 years they have 11 seasons over .500. and two of those years were over .500 by one game.

Doesn't exactly inspire, but it's better than losing. Three to four years in, and I am still not sure if K-State is better than NDSU yet.

Don't look now but Kansas State has won 4 in row. A lot of big job openings - I have to wonder if Klieman would get a look? (got two huge games left on schedule Texas and Baylor).

The Texas loss is simply embarrassing. That team had no heart left after losing to KU, and K-State still found a way to lose. Klieman needs a quarterback.

Interesting. I saw a poster on a KSU board touting TP as a replacement …

I’ve watched them a bit and I watched them lose to UT and it feels to me like it’s a player issue more than scheme. They don’t really have QB right now, for one thing, and they’re FB didn’t strike me as super athletic.

Was CM really a terrible OC? I thought he did fine here. One wonders where this is headed …

A couple series in the TX game were the final nail in the coffin for CM. Their QB situation didn't help either. Thompson looked horrible way too often for a seasoned guy. Their 2nd RB also just entered the portal.

I suspect he will not make less than that anytime soon. If K State fires him, probably has a decent shot at being a P5 coordinator, or maybe a G5 head coach? The latter group definitely makes more than $500K and the former typically is in that ballpark i think?

Klieman is reportedly in no hurry to replace Jason Ray (TEs and FBs) or Messingham and sounds like he's planning to wait until after their January 4th bowl game: https://news.yahoo.com/havent-talked-anybody-kansas-state-223400291.html

I wonder if that is or isn't coincidental with NDSU's season continuing on??? Would Roehl leave his OC position at NDSU for TEs and FBs at K-State???

I think it's more of an audition for Colin Klein to call the offense in their bowl game. Klein will be the fans choice but it's hard to run an explosive offense when the QB can't make consistent passes and doesn't read the field well. I lost count of the discussions I had with K-State fans who hated Mess and I had to constantly remind them that Messingham wasn't the one making bad passes and bad decisions. It was the QB.

K-State RB coach is paid $347k versus NDSU OC coordinator salary of $115k plus working in a higher visibility job in a (still) P5 conference...yeah, he'd go if the offer was there.

Seth Litrell, the head coach at North Texas, was the stylish pick to replace Bill Snyder. K-state fans were clamoring for Gene Taylor to hire him and were disappointed when Klieman was announced. It was reported that Litrell withdrew his name from the K-state job.

Litrell will have a losing record at UNT and be 0-5 in bowl games after today. I'd say Gene and K-state lucked out.

Johnson's final 3 were Oregon, Washington and K State. When Keinholz committed to UW, and with the Pac 12 imploding, it pretty much sealed the deal. This is a huge get for K State. What a run by QB Adrian Martinez on 3rd and 16, pass pocket was closing on him and he showed near Easton Stick quickness in accelerating and escaping! Led to the final Kansas State score and and a two TD difference.

Big game tonight for Kansas State & Coach Klieman:

No. 17 Kansas State at No. 8 TCU (7:00 CST FS1)

ESPN says Current line: TCU -3.5 (down from -5 on Sunday) | SP+ projection: TCU by 4.0 | FPI projection: TCU by 5.6.

I always hate when a college team is up pretty big against a good, well coached team because it's hard to make adjustments, but for the losing team is easy to make adjustments. So It look like it's TCU's game now. 38-28 TCU now with about 10:00 left in the 4th

1. Klieman needs to recruit a kicker.
2. Don't go for it on 4th down, when you're down by 3 points and at your own 30 yard line.
3. Their last drive before the half the took over after TCU failed on downs: If KSU gets a first down there, they perhaps would have gotten a field goal, and at the very least prevented a TCU touchdown just before halftime.

Klieman should of punted, he should have that instilled in him from Coach Bohl..

I didn't like the ending, K State and Klieman had a shot at a HUGE win, now they might regress back to the mean.

It seems like Klieman gets these weird spurts of aggressiveness. Reminds me of the JMU semifinal when he decided to try a long field goal when momentum was with NDSU instead of pinning them deep and playing defense.

Good points. Sounds like they'll be giving their 2nd and 3rd string kickers opportunities going forward.
Interesting how K-State's game against TCU paralleled our game against SDSU. Played a nearly flawless first half, but a couple small plays gave all the momentum to TCU going into the 2nd half, even though they were down big.
Talking with K-Staters I work with, it's interesting to hear where they place blame. They all blame Kleiman for the poor play-calling and offense in the 2nd half that cost them the win. Collin Klein gets a pass because he's KSU's golden child. On multiple occasions this season, Klein has gone into his turtle shell and reverted to calling QB run into stacked boxes.

I have to remind the KSU fans repeatedly that 1. Klein is calling the plays. 2. He's doing the same thing that got Messingham fired. 3. The kicker stinks and should also take some blame. 4. Maybe also consider your defense giving up 38?

Hopefully, they put together a complete game today against OSU. Sound familiar?

It's almost like fans forget the other teams have coaches who prepare and players who are recruited to a D1 level as well. And just because a play doesn't work doesn't mean it was an incorrect play call. Could be player execution. I see plays all the time that aren't logical but they work and suddenly it was a great play call! Screen pass on 3rd and 18. Blocker makes a great block or defender makes an incorrect read she it goes for 25 and a first down. What a great play call! But a receiver misses a block or a defender sniffs it out and comes off his assignment and drops him for no gain. Horrible play call! Coach should be fired!

Football is hard and winning consistently is hard. What the Bison have done is incredible and very unlikely. What they are doing now is normal for very good teams.

Tough to overstate how impressive this win was for Klieman's gang today. First time Oklahoma St has been shut out since 2009 - coming into the game the Cowboys were averaging 44.7 points per game (3rd in the FBS) and 467 yards of offense per game (23rd in the FBS). Prior to today their season low in points was 34 vs Arizona St and in offensive yards was 379 vs Baylor and K-State held them to 217 total yards and shut them out.

Tulane is in the AAC (just won the AAC championship yesterday actually) but you're right that loss did hurt as did their loss to Texas (a team both TCU and Alabama beat). Still, the fact that they even got near the conversation of the CFP is a pretty incredible accomplishment for Klieman, his staff, and his team.

I think I saw it on Twitter yesterday that this is K-State's first 10 win team not coached by Bill Snyder since 1910.

There's a lot of talk about Bama players, including QB Bryce Young, opting out to prepare for the draft and just a general dis-interest in this game since they're used to making the CFP every year. I'd assume K-State fans will be much more excited about going to this game than the spoiled Bama fans will be as well (hmm... sounds kinda familiar???). ESPN article on QB’s by Adam Rittenberg includes the following:

Will Howard, Kansas State: He's probably your favorite Big 12 coach's favorite Big 12 quarterback. Howard played a good chunk of the 2022 season platooning with Adrian Martinez but emerged as Kansas State's best option down the stretch as the Wildcats won the league title. An assistant from a team that faced K-State without Howard noted, "I don't think we beat them if he's playing." The 6-5, 242-pound senior has started games in each of the past three seasons but finally enters as the team's clear-cut QB1.

Howard set a team record with six consecutive games with multiple touchdown passes last season. After throwing 10 interceptions as a true freshman in 2020, Howard has just five picks in 254 attempts the past two seasons. A Big 12 defensive coordinator said Howard looks more like the North Dakota State quarterbacks who played under K-State coach Chris Klieman.

"He's really underrated," a Big 12 coach said. "He's big and powerful and runs better than people think and can really throw it."

Klieman would be wise to jump at any move. K State talent is lacking and Ol.Gene should be retiring soon.

Klieman should go asap

He is year 1 of a new deal. With a Big 12 championship already, he isn't going to anywhere.

He was the top player in Kansas last year and is a huge get for the Wildcats. They are saying he's the fastest player on the team. He scored 5 rushing TDs against Texas Tech when they actually gave him a little playing time. I honestly think K-State would have beaten OSU and Texas if they had put him in more; Will Howard has some weird off-days.

The snow alone was worth the watch, but even beyond the white stuff, Farmageddon was easily the strangest game of the week. K-State snapped the ball 102 times to ISU's 35, and the Cyclones didn't run a single play inside the Wildcats' 30. Blowout win for KSU? Not so much. Eight of Iowa State's 35 snaps -- four rushes by Abu Sama III, two catches each by Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins -- gained 455 yards. Six of those went for touchdowns, and the Cyclones took their second straight win in Manhattan.

3-3-5 is a good package but a terrible base and easy to run on if you actually stick to the run, particularly up the middle. It's awesome vs a short passing attack. D Cordinators will figure out the gimmick D

Tampa 2 is elite if you can get pressure without blitzing. Takes away the big plays. On obvious pass downs you go nickel or dime
