The guidance we've gotten is that you wear mask and stay 6 feet away - so it's not an either/or deal.

Edit: I should have added that people who are all in the same "bubble" don't need to keep their distance so the distancing would be between blocks of tickets, not individuals. Doesn't make sense for a family to split up, for example.

I've been to 3 Redhawks baseball games this summer. They have sold all seats as GA, every other row is blocked completely, and groups sit with two empty seats in between. Surprisingly, the fans have spread themselves out pretty efficiently throughout the stadium. I have taken my mask off while watching the game, as did most people. I wear it when I go up to purchase a beer, since the person selling the beer is wearing a mask.

I think NDSU will spread us out with reserved seats and most of us will have different seat locations than we have had.

As an addendum to this we shouldn't take this pipe dream of a "spring season" for granted either. Depending on how the flu season goes I could easily see football being less likely then than it is now.

The teams/conferences that play through this are going to look like geniuses in hindsight.

I think the biggest thing that changed based on what I gathered from Entz's comments was that the NCAA decided it would grant a full waiver for eligibility. Thus, even if we play it doesn't count against anyone's eligibility. There was apparently some speculation that the NCAA would make each game played count against eligibility for next year.

Seems like the Big Ten may just do exactly that. Looking more and more like the conference administrators who were more afraid of liability than their fans/boosters quit and hoped the entire nation would just quit too not realizing that in other parts of the country the fans/boosters are a bigger threat to the administrators than the lawyers. Most high school games here have sold out there allotted tickets and many schools are selling PPV live streams. Very few coaches and players and officials have opted out of participating. I agree the demand may not be as high as normal, but it will be higher than 50% especially since it may only be 1 game and the last time to see some of these players.

I think the responsibility lies with us. I don’t plan to stand in the lobby if there’s a lot of people in there. Step outside and let the crowd thin, before standing in line to go through security. There will be x’s all over the floor. Once inside, you can social distance to go to the concession stand. If not, be patient and go back later. Once you’re in your seats, if you can’t social distance, go over to one of those designated sections. That’s a great idea. Good job Ndsu & dome staff. You can be as safe as you choose to be. I will wear my darn mask, to protect the players and fellow fans. It’s a small price to pay. My husband will stay home & hopefully lift beets, but IF If if I get a ticket, I’m cheering for our team!

IDK, I enjoyed the game and was pulling for UCA. They are two games in now. I am becoming more and more convinced that there won't be football in the spring. These types of Virus's usually have a second run in them. Maybe I'm wrong, but we should really try to pick up a second game two weeks after this one to keep the players engaged and part of the Covid protocol their currently using. If Spring football starts to look doubtful, FBS and other programs are going to want a game on their schedule to do what we did and get more practice time. At least we would be ready

I suppose you could have one infected person visit every tailgating spot and thus expose everybody, but it seems like the data so far says that being outside is much safer (especially with ND's wind) and that the duration of exposure really is an important factor in spreading COVID-19 (so the hypothetical tailgate hopper wouldn't be that much of a danger.)

I suppose the porta-potties might be a pretty iffy place to go if you want to stop spreading the COVID - not sure what could be done to mitigate that problem. Better-ventilated porta-johns? Lots of disinfectant supplies on hand?

I doubt porta johns big risk as contact transmission is minimal. And those babies get plenty of venting if the wind is going. I agree with you 100% that the game itself is the biggest risk. With that said, I don't have an issue with 10K since they are mandating masks. I plan on going if I get tickets.

That was my thought. Anything you do carries some risk. So going into any event you are likely going to minimize risk where you can. It's similar to having teams play for 2-3 hours but skip the hand shake line after the game. The game itself is definitely much more risky than the hand shake line, but you can reduce an element of risk by not having the hand shake line. I would agree the tailgate itself if less risky than sitting inside the stadium for 3-4 hours. But you don't need to have the tailgate in order to have the game. So you still reduce the overall risk by not having the tailgate. Plus you aren't hiring additional staff to allow people in at designated times and monitoring them throughout. I'm not sure if our HS games allow tailgating before. We are usually in the building before any fans arrive and often have a locker room that goes directly to the field. I do know they announce all fans must leave the stadium immediately after the game. No lingering, loitering, etc. The general idea I get is they are already taking a huge risk by allowing fans for the games. Let's not let fans be here any longer than they absolutely have to outside the game. I don't necessarily agree with any of that, but I do understand what they are doing.
