NDSU hosts Wyoming at 7pm tonight. Wyoming is always tough and tonight's dual should have several close matchups.

125- Midkiff maj Trout, 4-0 NDSU. Midkiff was listed in the NDSU preview and should win. Trout is a great story though. He went to Wyoming as a touted high schooler on scholarship after winning four state titles. He got in a car accident and had a leg amputated prior to enrolling at Wyoming, but Wyoming still honored his commitment; and now he's starting at 125.
133- Bridges dec Sykora, 4-3 NDSU. A top ten matchup between all american Montorie Bridges and Cam. Bridges hasn't lost ot Cam before, but the matches have gotten closer and turned into genuine thrillers and toss ups. Hopefully both coaches agree to make this the final bout of the night.
141- Degen dec Zollman, 7-3 NDSU. Degen already beat Zollman this year, but I oculd see this result flipping.
149- Van Maanen dec Jensen, 10-3 NDSU. Jensen is favored, but I think JVM takes it. Genuine tossup with Wyoming being a slight favorite here.
157- Franek dec Krueger, 13-3 NDSU. I think Franek's pace wins out here. Krueger pinned Cordell Eaton in a dual at 197 and is tough.
165- Fogarty dec Moody, 16-3 NDSU. I hope Fogarty is back in the lineup. Brenner would have a chance here, but I would pick Moody over him.
174- Hastings dec De La Riva, 16-6 NDSU. I wouldn't be suprised to see Hastings blow out De La Riva or for De La Riva to win.
184- Samuelson dec Cressell, 16-9 NDSU. Hopefully Cressell keeps it close.
197- Buchanon dec Eaton, 16-12 NDSU. Probably a toss up but I'm giving it to Wyoming.
HWT- Andrews dec Metz, 16-15 NDSU. Andrews took it to Metz earlier this year and hasn't lost to him yet.

NDSU should be strongly favored at 125 and 165 if both Midkiff and Fogarty are in the lineup and healthy.
The eight other weights could go either way. Should be an entertaining dual. Really not looking forward to hearing Ethan Kyle (Wyoming Assistant) complain all night. He really annoys me

Beat the Pokes like Unbison did in 2008 at Wyoming when he took down a Wyoming Wrestling All American! haha

good luck wrestling team!

(serious question, how hard does NDSU solicit area wrestling teams to bring their wrestling to watch NDSU?)

Does it look like Mac will go?

He was announced.

Weber is warming up and may go at 165.

Awful match by Degen and Cam looked tired. Hopefully Jaden can turn this around

Van Mannen looked gassed too.

Kish is exasperated.

Man, weber with just enough to hold on.

Wyoming definitely looks better in the third period

Yikes. Bring on Iowa State.

That was very sad. Poor effort, poor conditioning and weak coaching. I miss Bucky. Coach Kish has yet to recruit a Bison as a head coach who has been an All American.

What a pathetic performance tonight. Outside of Franek, nobody should feel good about their performance.

I think the night can be summed up in two quotes I heard from each head coach:
In the 149 match, there were 10-15 seconds left after a restart, coach Kish said "I just want you to stand up" with exasperation dripping on every word. To be fair Van Maanen hadn't even really been close to standing up and had been getting controlled in a close match.

At 174, after De La Riva picked down, coach Branch said "This is where we dominate, go to work right away". Soon later, De La Riva was pinned and the dual was effectively over.

I don't like that Wyoming is the clearly superior program.

133- Cam got broke. He led after the first period and then it was all Bridges after that. Still, if Cam cleaned up his top game just a little, that match goes differently. He gave up a bad reversal and then an escape straight into a takedown, and those were the differences in the match. Didn't like the effort on bottom in the third either.
141- Degen has no offense. The kid puts maximum effort into his matches, and clearly cares, but he won't score enough. Branch threw the backup out there knowing that he presented a better matchup against Degen. Kish could've thrown Droegemuller out there, but didn't.
149- Effort and concentration lapses. He didn't do anything for a huge chunk of this match. He almost gave up a cheap takedown at the end of the first and Kish said something to the effect of stop being lazy. He really needs to work on moving his feet. He'll never be Jason Nolf or Zain Retherford, but go throw on some of their tape and try to imitate their foot movement.
157- Really good match against a dangerous opponent. Franek is everything that the lineup usually lacks. He has multiple shots he can score off of, he has a frenetic pace, a good gas tank, and is active on bottom. Dewey Krueger pinned Cordell Eaton in a dual at 197 a couple years ago.
165- What happened to Weber's gas tank? He could have easily finished a couple more takedowns that he was deep on but he just stopped due to exhaustion. Also, terrible decision to have Weber cut Moody when he was clearly gassed. I get the rationale, but with the energy level he was showing, it didn't make sense.
174- Got dominated. The second time Hastings hit his rollthrough bar/half, he telegraphed it and De La Riva still had no clue it was coming.
184- He was completely overmatched. I like his effort level but he has a very long ways to go. Third period was brutal to watch too. Just lunging wildly and out of gas.
197- Terrible late match strategy and execution. Another match where his complete lack of any top game killed him. He rode Buchanon for a whopping 3 seconds in the third period and then gave up the winning takedown with five seconds left. Any ride at all, and maybe that match ends differently. A good ride can just exhaust your opponent. He's a fifth year senior, so if it hasn't developed yet, it probably won't.
HWT- Andrews is just a lot better.
125- I don't have a problem holding Midkiff out of this one. Pretty much nothing went well and if he still isn't 100%, might as well not risk it.

Any momentum from a solid Southern Scuffle performance is gone. That was a truly terrible performance.

On the bright side, Mike Nelson won the Ridgewater open today...Only half joking.

I'm really looking forward to him at 197 next year. 125/133 (whichever Mac isn't at), 141 (I think Doregemuller is the better answer, but he's unproven), 149 (JVM hasn't put it together yet), 174 (Noel? Brenner?), and 184 (Current guys haven't shown much) are all huge question marks next year.

Today South Dakota State edged Wyoming in their dual. We are going to be near the bottom of the Big 12 this year.

I'd like to argue with you, but what you say is probably true.

Based on my computer rankings the Jacks are up 22 points from last year, which is the biggest improvement of any team. So, they are basically back after a one year re-build with the new coach. We are down 7 points so far, and that will get worse unless we manage to keep it close to ISU.

The only Big12 teams that wrestlestat has us beating are WV, UNC, and Air Force, and the margin of error over the Golden bears is very thin.

I hope the guys can prove this all wrong.

I saw that Sam Stuhl also won the Ridgewater at 149 yesterday. Maybe they can give JVM a breather. Also only half joking.

I agree that Mike Nelson has some interesting potential. That was really something when he took down Metz during the scrimmage.

It is really refreshing to see Franek be able to change things up when one move isn't working. He doesn't have any ranked wins yet, but it feels like he has the highest ceiling on the team. I know that Weber is a quality back-up, but I think it is important for the future to go with Franek for the rest of the year.
