The 80's championship games were definitely on the tube - I watched them all as a younger kid. We had cable, but we only got MTV, WGN, TBS and one or two other lame channels. I'm almost certain we had to have been on nationwide network TV for those 5 games.

Similar to how NBC affiliates shows NDSU statewide now.

They're talking that anyone nationwide tuning into ABC is going to get the game unless preempted by something locally. Pretty sure that wouldn't have been the case for 80s Div II games? I'm almost a bit too young to remember much of those years.

Was that the last time you watched one on tv instead of in person?

Back in the 80's I just assumed the championship game was broadcast nationwide. You may be right though.

After thinking about this a little more I can say the TV announcers were definitely not local guys. Unfortunately they called us the 'Bissson'. Every. Stinking. Year. I yelled at the TV every time...

So were all four College Division bowl games on national TV since the champion wasn't selected until after the bowl games were played? If so, the Bison would have a few other games that were nationally broadcast. (Unless I misunderstood how the College Division worked).

Any idea if NDSU or the library has any of these still around as before my time. But I do remember going through microfiche in the NDSU library and they had lots of old stuff cataloged that way.

My bet is that the old college division bowl games were on ABC. I watched a couple of them while living in Minot.

I know it is not exactly the sentiment of the OP's question but the MBB team has danced on CBS recently.
