View Full Version : 2006 Schedule shaping up already

According to the Forum NDSU already has three non-conference games lined up: Northwestern State, Stephen F. Austin, and (of course) Rocky and Northeastern. I'm kind of surprised that Northwestern State is listed in the article though - I thought we moved them up a year in order to get a shot at scheduling Northeastern, so I'm kind of doubtful about that one.

The Fargo Forum reported in their story about Hall of Famer Rocky Hager returning also mentioned that Stephen F. Austin is on the schedule too.

Now we just need to schedule a SoCon team or two :)

Note: I removed my first thread because I put Sam Houston in the title - too misleading to leave it out there.

I noticed that about Northwestern too????

Did Jeff make a mistake?

Or (begin conspiracy theory) is there going to be a game switch?

I think Jeff made a mistake on the Northwestern game for 2006. Should be this year.

This is what we know so far from Jeff's article and the schedule on gobison.com. I am suprised that SDSU will be at home and Southern Utah will be on the road again. I guess that the Great West is getting a more balanced home and away schedule.

Yeah, it's not listed on the GoBison site for the 2006 schedule, either.

in reference to the article

isn't $70,000 a little cheap to get Northeastern to come to Fargo?

Bisonguy

I think it's pretty close to the average. Montana only payed about $75k for NDSU, and they're at the upper end of the guarantee scale of I-AA. I don't think there's many six figure guarantees paid in I-AA.

IowaBison

well, it's a steal either way.

The 2006 schedule now has 8 games. Four at home and four on the road. I do not know the identity of the fourth home game, but could it be Montana State? (They do owe us a return trip in either 2006 or 2007 for our game in Bozeman this year.)

The other road game added is a D-IA opponent. The name of the school is not going to be announced until the opponent announces it. All that I know is that it is NOT a BigTen, BigEight, or Big12 school.

As to the 2006 1-A opponent, I will guess first and say maybe Wyoming? Anyone else?

What about Ohio U of the MAC? It would be kind of neat to see the two old Nebraska coaches do battle. Solich became that school's head coach this year.

I would guess you are right about it not being against a Big 8 team since they no longer in existence. They became the big XII. I could see Ohio University, Wyoming or Cincinnati. Or maybe Northern Michigan they are I-A.

KC,

Actually, Northern Michigan is still DII. I believe Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan are the I-A schools in the MAC.

I was going to say a directional Michigan team but for some reason I thought of Northern Michigan.

Well, that wouldn't be Wyo then, but I still think Wyo would be a great game for the Bison to start out with for their future 1-A competition. Not as much media or $$$ as playing a team like the Gophers, but still worth while. Maybe Gophs in 07?

Sweet!

I hope Gene doesn't try to schedule a tougher I-A, like Minnesota or whoever, for the Sept. 1, 2007 opening. That would be absolutely brutal, with Montana State and Stephen F Austin games to follow :-/ (but it will make for two awesome home games!!!)

WYOBISONMAN

I think that with the team Bohl has and with Walker as QB the Bison would have a reasonable shot at beating Wyoming too. * And of course I would love that as I would be dishing out large helpings of shit to my buddies down here!!

Anyone notice the SDSU game is now being regularly scheduled at the end of the year (also 2006 and 2007). That will impact the ability to have huge tailgate crowds for our rivalry game. :(
Hope we get to play Minnesota, Iowa State or Wyoming in football sometime in the next few years. That will help us along on our journey to DI-A. Of course a couple trips to the DI-AA championship game wouldn't hurt. ;)
Still don't see former rivals Northern Iowa and those scared Montana Griz on the schedule. ::)

You just have to modify the tailgating mo, SDBison.

My crew didn't like the colder weather either. For this year I got a tent with four sides and my buddy got a portable firepit. As long as it isn't 35 below, we're set.

I am absolutely hoping for Minnesota in 2007. I don't know how many of you know how big of a chip is on the shoulders of many Bison players, but believe me, this would be a physical game. I'll bet the majority of current Bison players were recruited by Minnesota, only to be passed up by some kid from Ohio or Florida. Apparently Minnesota kids can't play football. Many of these players know each other, I really believe it would be a hell of a game. Northern Iowa has plyed Iowa and Iowa State tough, and I beleive have beaten Iowa State. Look for the same from Minnesota/North Dakota State. I say game on!!

I think the SDSU game being at the end of the year is outstanding. For so long, once the "rivalry" game was over, the fans quit coming (especially if there was no playoff hope). Now, granted there are other factors such as hunting, but I think a lot of it was no one wanted to watch us destroy Concordia St. Paul or St. Cloud.

I really hope that putting the rivalry game at the end of the year helps to keep the momentum going. I think this will be a real test as to how the fans have taken to the Dakota Marker game...
