The way too early Trey Lance Mega Thread, but gotta start somewhere. "There Goes Lance (https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-sports/minnesota-native-trey-lance-looks-like-the-next-great-ndsu-quarterback?fbclid=IwAR3TIBdinpeq7Dydjy7s6UWSQCsrf 2YqkcLl88mtinskWaUIuh9XTdQHoHM)"!

I’m all aboard, but definitely excited to see him play against some tough Valley defenses. Oregon next year should be a big test, too. All in all, he’ll have every opportunity to prove he is who we think he is. Very much looking forward to it!

Much better than Morgan, some on Gopherhole are admitting it in their NDSU takeover thread in the football section.

JackJD in there thinks SDSU will be favored vs NDSU so thats adorable I guess.

I’m guessing the one he has practiced against for over a year, especially last season, is probably one of the best he will see in his collegiate career.

Right. There is no pressure when you are competing with a couple of other guys for a starting job.

I get that you and I and all of the other armchair coaches have not seen the proof with our own eyes. But our PROGRAM hired this fella Entz who is fully indoctrinated in the Bison culture on top of his own innate ability to evaluate, motivate, scheme and delegate.

Be a Bison. T r u s t. T h e. P r o c e s s.

Edit: Wait, wait, wait!!! Did I forget to mention that Hedberg guy? You gonna second guess him? Huh?

Exactly...I think people are forgetting we played Butler..they are a team that would probably lose to a top 10 high school squad.

Everyone just chill until we play some actual FCS teams.

Everyone just chill until we play some actual FCS teams.I know you are using hyperbole to prove a point but D3 teams will beat even the best high school teams. I've worked with some of the best high school teams in the Midwest and average D3 teams in our conference and there is a noticable difference. It's a numbers game and only 3-5% of high school players play in college. There are better individual players on high school teams but even the best teams only have 10-12 players who will play in college.

Pioneer teams are nowhere near MVFC teams but San Diego has proven they can occasionally compete with good FCS teams. UND will be another big step up from Butler this week and the rest of the MVFC will be another step.

You know what is fun? Folks trying to discount what he due to level of competition. Yes, we get that it was Butler. But it is 6 TDs, and he showed ability to read the field when throwing and was accurate. Poor old Thumper is probably in the corner whimpering..... :)

Hard not to be incredibly excited after his performance. Yes, it was butler, but what we saw is EXACTLY what you'd expect a Championship Caliber QB to do to a team at that level. The kid looked like a friggen video game out there.

50yd bomb, 50yd Run, truck a helpless safety who can never look his girlfriend in the eye again, another 50yd TD run.

It was insane

So what was said? Interesting that they would even follow a lowly FCS team. Did somebody on the show go to Butler? It's not like we beat Butler 83-0. And Trey's stats are great, but not a huge number of passes. Although the TD runs were very good. Just curious how this topic came up.

Trey put his passes where only his receiver was going to catch with the exception of the one he shorted in end zone to Watson I believe. He led his TE , WR and RB perfectly on his passes. That is what impressed me. He can throw it into a small window. Plus with some larger pass catchers we have he has some margin of error for their radius to catch things. He placed them correctly. Great start.

Steve Walkers debut was off the bench vs Northern Colorado in 2004. After Tony Stauss had a terrible game with 5 picks, he was inserted late in the 4th and he went 10 for 10 off the bench and almost rallied us back. The game winning field goal was blocked, but I was pumped because I knew we had a good one at QB

I remember being at that game. Like the Wyoming game years later, lots of missed opportunities. I also remember Vincent Jackson making a high catch over a Bison DB (he didn't have much for stats, but this catch was big) and Bear fans being arses and trying goad Bison fans into a fight on the way to the parking lot.

I agree, it’s obviously a bit premature to discuss the Heisman trophy and Tre in the same conversation. But with everything that has happened with the NDSU program and several of its individual players this last decade, I tend to believe that almost anything is possible now. Gameday x2, 3 straight QB’s playing professional ball, #2 player selected in the draft, 7 of 8 Natty’s, Iowa & K State, etc. What a ride!!

If there is such thing as a "moral victory," this may qualify, since the victory was what was to come. I know Steve Walker was instrumental for me coming back to "super fan" status after losing interest for awhile after college.

Wait... this is a Trey Lance thread. Man, I am excited for this kid and this team right now!

I've rewatched the Butler game enough times now to confirm that Trey Lance is legit. Seriously, the kid has some good throwing mechanics for a redshirt freshman. I don't doubt he'll make some rookie mistakes, but long term Lance is going to be really really good.

He has it. Center snaps the ball at 50 yard line, Trey takes a 5 step drop and throws a 55-60 yard dart from the 45 yard line, oh that is a thing of beauty. It dosent matter who are playing against, Buttler Bulldogs or Grand Forks Butterflies. He got it. All he has to do is keep improving and take advantage of Randy Hedbergs great experience and knowledge. I wish he ran less.

Exactly. Some of what he showed against Butler is entirely opponent independent. How smooth he rolled out with two defenders in his face running him down, throwing the TE open on a stop route away from the defender, the effortless 50+ yard dime he dropped out of the sky to Sproles. It is all sooooo good.
