Beings it’s still the off season but football is in the air I am encouraging everyone to give a hot take or 12 for the 2019-20 football season. If at all possible try to keep it NDSU/FCS focused.

My big one: NDSU football will win yet another National Championship.

I will have a wide smile on my face when the banner is raised on September 7th in the faces of fans of the GFCC.

This will be the first time in a long time QB will be a question mark. Should be a fun up and down season. RB also brings back minimal experience compared to most years due to Seth’s injury.

Agree on QB. And although I'll disagree slightly on the RB point, I do think that the fact that our QB and passing game will almost assuredly take a step down, this will have the potential to make us one-dimensional. Couple that with TR's first year in the saddle, could be a rough year offensively. THAT SAID - Defense wins championships, and I think we still have a chance this year.

I think an interesting question I want to ask everyone is this:

Over/Under 2 Bison losses this year?

My hot take: Over. :hide:

(really hope i'm wrong)

Bisonville will have a major meltdown during a Saturday this season, saying things like "the ride was good while lasted," despite NDSU winning the game by 20 points.

I'll take the under. We have 1 loss this year. I'm thinking someone like Illinois State. But then the guys get their wake up call and roll. 14-1. Raise the banner.

Big question mark for me are the baby rams on the O line; need the DOLA to continue.

Listen to Ross's chat with Blazek on the BRTV thread. I get the feeling that they'll be just fine with Schoening at center. And Cordell Volson has to be legit at RT if they're willing to move a first team All-American in Zack Johnson inside to guard. Sounds like the other guard will be a toss-up between Zach Kubas and Nash Jensen but the thing Blazek said that got me excited is that he feels all 15 guys in his OL room are legit players for this level. He said that's a rarity at almost any school. He raved about the depth they have at OT.

Needless to say I'm not too worried at all about the O-line but there's plenty of other questions marks on the offensive side to worry about.

By moving Johnson to guard that allows them to get the 5 best players on the field. Plus if any NFL team liked Johnson at tackle they are going to love him at guard.

PL, by the coaches moving Johnson, rather than Volson, inside....are they saying that they believe Volson has the better footwork, of the two, for the tackle position?

Yeah, I'd agree that they're trying to get the best 5 guys out there. I just found it interesting that they're putting Volson at RT when he played primarily at RG last year so they could've easily left Volson at guard and Zack Johnson at RT. It's definitely a great luxury to have good enough OTs to move an All-American inside to guard.

Gene Taylor and Chris Klieman have a chuckle over the time Gene got und to come to the fargodome twice with nothing in return. Man those guys were desperate.

I envision more of a "get the best 8 players on the field" type of offensive line. Wear down the D with fresh lungs...

The Bison win another title. To celebrate, the university gets a statue made of Kramer riding a majestic bull Bison shirtless holding up the horns in one hand and an American flag in the other. (Similar to the picture/video of Putin on his little Russian horse but way less communist/socialist)

I would contest that they feel Zach is better at guard than Volson. Interior offensive line play is not for the faint of heart. You need to be a tough SOB to grind with the big defensive tackles/nose guards. Its like a street fight for 3 hrs except the fight is in a phone booth. Not that the play on the edge is easy, but definitely less physical.

tons of bitching about not having a receiver like Shep...even tho he got raked last year for being "too inconsistent"
tons of bitching about running the ball too frequently/not frequently enough
moderate celebration of the return of the screen game

we lose 3 games in the regular season (UC Davis, SDSU, and YSU)...make some noise in the playoffs but ultimately lose in the semifinals.

then we win the next 3 natties...rejuvenating a board fan base.

Hot take:

TE's get more involved with TR as OC. 481 receiving yards last year from them with my figuring. We get 750+ yards from TE's this year.

Cofield 1000+ yards rushing in the regular season (not including playoffs).

At least one call on Bisonville to fire a coach following a underwhelming loss.

My guesses.

Ty Brooks leading rusher followed closely by Trey Lance.

Ben Ellefson will have most receiving yards.

Tutsie will be our 2nd leading tackler.

My hot take..Bison Defensive Line is going to be really good.
The talent log jam at NDSU is best exemplified by the position switch of Quinn Alo moving to the offense. He was projected to be a significant factor for the DL early in his career. The progression of the other interior DL must have been significant to allow for Him to make the switch. If the young DL are as good as I suspect, the rest of the FCS should be very worried. Big question for me isn’t the starters but who is going to be that Caleb Butler or Stanley Jones guy. (That is assuming that Menard and Tuszka were our two best DE)

My bonus hot take piggybacking off of yours:

Bartholomew Ogbu will be a demon for opposing OTs on passing downs and racks up at least 8 sacks this season.

Trey Lance gets drafted higher than Easton Stick did...but lower than Carson Wentz. I guess if I said higher than Wentz that would be a truly hot take
