This has to be one of the largest classes ever. Will be interested to see what attrition is like with the new staff going forward. Always seems to be a bit more after a coaching change.

Now let's put a ribbon on this day and get Baptist. Love his tape!

Just want to say our major fan concerns were CB and WR this offseason and I think we crushed it this signing period with CB depth. 8 DBs this class, 5 of which where scholarship players I believe (Coleman, Hall, Smith, Jones, and Wlodarcyzk), and I actually like the PWO players (Ocama, Volpentesta, and Beebe) quite a bit too. Fantastic job, on paper, by the staff addressing the young depth needed at DB.

WR was also reasonably addressed as well but I would feel really good about it if we pulled in Baptist.

Crickets so far.

But I think it is interesting that they haven't released an article on GoBison.com yet detailing the recruiting class (or at least the late signees) like many schools have already done this morning. I'm guessing they're waiting on something....

This class an a whole is a great mix of talent. Great work in our traditional recruiting area and some great skilled players down south. This class has stud development guys, flat out studs, and just great all around talent

The late signing period has become totally unique to me. You aren't really looking at kids for say 24 months, having them to our summer camp twice, having them make friends in the class, having them for unofficial visits, official visits...you are basically trying to fill in gaps on the roster. Fill in attrition. etc. It is hard/impossible to build crazy strong relationships in that amount of time. Just a different philosophy. I loved going into Texas, Florida and Georgia. Getting that skill and size was terrific. DJ was up last weekend. I have no idea his plan. He has a lot of options in Texas. His film is terrific. WOuld be a fun kid to sign, I haven't dug today, but I also have not heard he signed anywhere. I think UTEP wanted him on campus this coming weekend, and I am not sure when the last day you can sign is.

Also, if it isn't prying too much, does anyone have an idea on the attrition that is being brought up? Burgundy has mentioned it as well as Insiders today. Enough mentions of it that is is a sure thing other than just Brock Robbins.

Great finish to the signing class. Great job coaching staff and administration!

Burgundy, can you comment on why so many more late signers than last year? (I did not look it up but only remember a few.)

I have read and heard on the radio that more coaches are recommending to their players to wait if they don’t like their offer sheets at the time of the early signing period as more opportunities will open because some FBS schools will reach down to them if they didn’t get the player they wanted. I heard more players are looking for better offers. Don’t know if that is accurate but it is what I heard.

One factor was the timing of the coaching changes. If our staff had remained intact, they may have kept the QB and added a couple of late pieces before the first signing period. After the change, Entz and company had to devote 100% of their recruiting effort to retaining the existing commitments through the early signing day. We had a small number of offers (Tristan Roper comes to mind) who decided late for other schools over NDSU before the early signing period. Would any of them been at NDSU if the timing was different? I have no idea.

In the end, I think our new staff did an absolutely amazing job in retaining all of the early commitments, except Jaren Lewis, and then adding a bunch of really exciting pieces in the late period. I also think there will be some important players from among the PWO group.

You can call the ticket office or TM office and tell them if you want a refund or have it go to your pledge.

We called and asked if it was still on. Headed to Fargo. A guy almost rear ended us on 46 and sailed (like airborne) into a slew. So we turned around to make sure he wasn’t dead and got stuck. Got pulled out and drove to Fargo. Then of course they cancelled. Now we are home. Roads and visibility were great coming home.

Coach E talked about the large class and the need to backfill due to the large graduating class, injuries, attrition and academics. He mentioned academics multiple times, certainly more than I am accustomed to hearing. I thought we've been pretty good on that front during this run. Is there actually an issue there?

I couldn't find any current data for football players even on the NCAA site. 93.6% of the students in general who apply to NDSU are accepted but the attrition rate for Freshmen is 20% (national average is 28%).

I think what has impressed me in general is the way the recruiting footprint has continued to grow...and it appears this staff is keeping up the momentum...I am sure I will get some snarky southern speed remark...but getting solid recruits from Texas, Georgia and Florida is a high water mark for an FCS team not in the region...hell of a job...keep it rolling.

Agreed!!

I don't claim to know everything within the team, but with Entz talking about this scout team situation and all the PWO's, it appears he and this staff are raising the bar a bit on the depth and quality of every position top to bottom. I remember Klieman mentioning guys from the scout team often, but I've never heard it talked about this much. Is it possible that this year the staff got into the living rooms of a bunch of quality kids and sold them on being a part of something special and working hard for a possible scholly down the road?

Also with the long season by the end of the year they don't have many kids left on the scout team. Just look at the running backs the last two years and the wr last year. And every year a couple guys quit. Just the nature of it. I'm sure they have injuries on the scout team we never here about.

24 Seniors I believe.

1 "walk off" that I can remember, some might also be partials. I would have to believe that Robbins scholarship becomes available for next season unless that's even more draconian NCAA measures.
