Given how many NDSU fans have traveled to the Dallas area you should be a good source of recommendations of good pit BBQ's in the Dallas area.
Any recommendations?

I moved to Frisco this summer and agree with the above. Many of the locals also really enjoy Hard Eight BBQ, and it's infinitely easier to drive to than than Pecan Lodge. Hard Eight is an open pit style, open air dining restaurant, where you walk through and tell them to cut off whatever you want in whatever quantity you want. It's nice to be able to sample the different meat options without committing to a large quantity. However, Hutchins has scoop your own sides and free unlimited scoop your own deserts (often banana pudding and peach cobbler), and the brisket may be slightly better at Hutchins as well.

Yeah. I don't have to go to the airport this year so I'm not getting anywhere south of the LBJ. That's a better suggestion.

You're braver than I am. I try to avoid crossing south of the Bush Turnpike if possible. Following 121 northeast from DFW airport to Frisco is actually a pretty smooth and painless commute and still avoids most of the heavy traffic areas. I avoid Love Field because it's too close to the the city center.

We always know some guy who waited too long to get his hotel room and ends up in Richardson. Full disclosure, one year that was me.

Hutchins BBQ is fantastic, the brisket especially, and there's one just a couple miles east of the stadium. Don't get there too late though (either for lunch or dinner) since once they're out of brisket your taste buds are out of luck.

I would also recommend you try Legacy Food Hall (https://legacyfoodhall.com/food-stalls-bars/) while you're in town. Friday night probably isn't the best for EWU fans as the Bison festivities are going to be held there. If you have a family or group that has trouble deciding on where to eat, this place is perfect. I've eaten there several times with different groups of people and nobody has ever tried anything they didn't like. The Asian buns from Enter the Bao are always at the top of people's list.

I will second this. Rudy’s is awesome.

Not sure if Salt Lick has any sites in the DFW metro but if you like mustard based bbq sauce then that’s your place. Worth the trip to Austin if no DFW sites. Then you can also hit Ironworks and Blacks and Stubs. And the Lustre Pearl and... hell, I’m gonna stay in TX all January.

If the weather and the aviation gods cooperate I will be landing Thursday morning at DFW as a single. I would like to make a run down to Pecan Lodge that day. Anyone else have an interest in meeting there and perhaps collaborate on the "Trough" or else just share a table?

I have almost no personality whatsoever. Sometimes referred to as "The Cardboard Man" because I am only two dimensional. I know almost nothing about football and even less about BBQ. I have been to Texas, well many times, but I don't remember them all. Other than these things there is no reason at all that you would want to spend some of your precious hours with me. I've never been to Pecan Lodge (because its downtown and parking's a pain in the ass) so I actually don't know. There are plenty of paid parking lots downtown, but I've never gone downtown during a work day, so I don't know how full they get. They had this map of close commercial parking lots on their website.

Went around block once after locating the actual restaurant location and found credit card surface pay lot within 1 block of Pecan Lodge. Was way easier than I anticipated. Maybe got lucky. Street parking all around but was pretty parked up. Definitely worth it for sure. Hit craft beer place 1/2 block from Pedan Lodge.

Wonder if Pecan Lodge would make a full brisket and Uber Eats it to Toyota Stadium about 2 pm Saturday for postgame tailgate?

This. Just go straight for this lot. Literally right next to the restaurant. Pay from your cell phone by texting the number on the sign. Was like $2 for parking until 4pm (got there at noon). There are metered spots lining all the surrounding streets, but if there aren’t any readily available near the restaurant, I’d go straight for the pay lot. Can’t beat the ease for $2

We thought that dear Stan and the cooking crew would get black lung from working at Hard Eight. The jalapeno sausage was very good, and it got more tasty as it aged in our hotel fridge. We ate the leftovers before going to tailgating.

Frisco BBQ and brews put five pounds on my frame between noon Thursday and late afternoon Sunday. I wonder if Kramer would approve.

Got back and made a wager with my son on the FBS chipper. I took Clemson to cover. As a result I now have one of these on the way from Austin: https://saltlickbbq.com/products/the-ranch-beef-ribs-brisket-smoked-turkey-pork-ribs-and-sausage/

I was well on my way to reducing those extra five but now it looks like there may be some delay...

File this away for next year I guess but a BBQ place owned by former Minnesota Twins great Torii Hunter in Celina, TX (just a few miles north of Frisco) was named the #2 restaurant in America according to yelp: https://www.yelpblog.com/2019/01/yelps-top-100-places-to-eat-in-the-u-s-2019

Ran into a guy that said we should go to Tenders for bbq. Did not make it up there but on the list for next year.

Well it was in KC, but on the way to Dallas......hit Arthur Bryant's Barbeque. It was fantastic.Agreed! Woodyard is good as well, along with Gates in the KC area.

Damn it, now I want BBQ.

One more suggestion if you're ever in the KC area. BB's Lawnside. It's off of 85th and Troost. Not the best place to be at night but good stuff during daylight hours.

Looks like they opened up a 2nd location in Frisco. Even more convenient.

Just ate this place in Frisco location and it was...okay. I got the El Jefe, a sandwich sampler with most of all their meats on it. The boss got a loaded brisket baked potato. The brisket is definitely not as good as Hutchins or Pecan lodge. I liked the ribs but they were not outstanding by any means. The baked beans side dish was pretty solid. The Mac n cheese was slightly better than boxed grocery store versions. The banana pudding was excellent, although not free like Hutchins.

I can’t see myself going back when Hutchins is just up the road. I also can’t see how this got #2 on that Yelp list as it’s very average bbq for the area.

Hutchins is pretty solid. Not only that there is a Rudy’s right by the stadium too isn’t there?

Need Salt Lick to open up in Frisco.

Fond memories of The Trough down in Deep Elum my friend. Those collard greens were damn good too. Also have sweet dreams about the Texas Twinkies over at Hutchins. I’m gonna try to do my own version here before summer is out.

I’ve discovered a couple bbq places in the DC area..got a beef rib about a month ago, but the one we had at pecan lodge was better.

Yes, surprisingly enough, a very popular group of restaurants in the DC area is owned by the North Dakota Farmers Union. They operate Founding Farmers, Farmers Fishers Bakers, and Farmers & Distillers in multiple locations here.

Of course there is a plethora of choices here.
