It will be in lieu of the regular weekly presser since Klieman is in the Little Apple and won't be back in Fargo until Thursday according to K-State's beat writer.

Hoping to hear some news on what assistants will be retained at this thing.

He best not be recruiting with the dead period I thought starting today?

probably shoring up assistants, getting to know the facilities, etc.

Haha, yeah I edited my post shortly after I put in up but you caught me. I'm sure he's plenty busy down there even without recruiting. I guess I could try to justify my screw up by saying he's "recruiting coaches". :)

We got a great new head coach. Sincerity in his voice and the love he has for football.
He does look like Clark Kent and that suit. Ready to rip it open and see his Superman outfit on underneath.

As far as he knows....

I'm sure there will be a few spots to fill. Recruiting coordinator and head of football operations for one.

No, later he said as of now, the only open position is Defensive Coordinator. Obviously that is a blanket general statement until something changes

He said the only one he was currently aware of was his spot....probably haven't been finalized who's for sure leaving yet.

Any chance they add run game coordinator to Roehl's job? IIRC, Riley had that title along with OL coach. Might prep him a bit for a future spot as OC if Mess leaves...and let the new OL coach focus on his position players.

That sounds like a good idea. Roehl obviously has a good understanding of the running game and Mess will probably be a future K State offensive coordinator.

From my perspective they're kind of dodging the staff turnover questions. I don't think we can read too much into his comments yet but the fact that those key guys like Mess, Hedberg, Roehl, and Goeser were at the press conference can't be a bad thing.

BattleBorn
12-17-2018, 07:32 PM
Matt's not as polished as Klieman, and I fear we are all reading too much into some things he may have said or not said.

I think Bot is right. I also got excited, but bet that was a canned answer as they knew it would be asked.

i suppose it is a fine line given they are already NDSU staff. To bad we have to wait on KSU...

I believe he was just giving examples and maybe just said names that came to mind. Much as I think Lance will be very good we have yet to see him pass much. Hotchkiss and others will compete for starter, and 2 and 3 on depth chart. Competition is good and always great to have very good backups.

DM05

Agreed. May not be this year, or even next, depending on some combination of current K-State OC contract and performance next year. If a day comes when Klieman needs an OC, I think Mess is at the top of the list based on hist performance at NDSU.

Hedberg has been incredible as a dedicated QB coach and needs to stay as only that. The amount of focus and attention to detail he provides is important when you think of how advanced Stick and Wentz have been at the end of their careers, how much liberty they are given with audibles, how much a talented QB can do with our offense, and how well prepared Wentz was for the draft process when it comes to pre-snap reads (Stick will probably be getting similar accolades come April). Has to help recruiting the position as well.

Interesting that Entz said his number one priority is new recruits. Getting ready for playoff game was number 2. Likely just based on the early signing period coming up so soon. I believe he said number i3 s getting to know all players in his new position. All 3 of these items are top priorities.

Probably won't be made public, unless the candidate that interviewed makes it public on their own.

Priorities seem straight to me.

#1 Lock down new recruits
#2 Prepare for Championship
#2a Hire staff for next year
#3 Win Championship
#4 Celebrate
#5 Prepare for next year as head coach

New recruits have to be the priority today. They have a little time off, then a couple of weeks to prepare for EWU.

I suspect that this week is focused on new recruits even if there isn't a coaching change.

Considering signing day is in 48 hours and Frisco is in 3 weeks... and final signing day is in February. Makes sense. It's still Klieman's job to to coach the team.

I know at least 2 others were interviewed, and a maybe on a third.

Also think Mess should be “promoted” to OC/Assistant HC with an accompanying bump in salary. Assuming he is staying of course.

Sounds like Klieman is making some staff decisions this week; betting after signing day. I think we will have some clarity by Friday.

I wonder what Klieman is telling recruits about his plans, especially for OC. If I were a recruit, I would be very interested in knowing who I would be working with on a daily basis.
