NDSU vs E. Washington - in Frisco

What's everyone thoughts on this matchup?

I listened to the Maine vs Eastern Washington game on Internet Radio out of Bangor, Maine. The announcers were very good - Maine supporters, but fair, gave credit to EWU when they deserved it.

Based on the radio show ... EWU's main strengths are their speed and ability to execute explosive plays that put points on the board. Sounds like the Bison defensive backs will have their hands full. UC Davis last week scored with about a minute-thirty remaining and then put the game on the line with a 2-pt conversion attempt that succeeded. They went up by 1 point, looked they were going to win. Then EWU got the kickoff and marched the field to score and win.

This game may be a challenge for the Bison. The Bison have played great in the playoffs so far. EWU may be more explosive than SDSU.

Offensively EWU seems very similar to SDSU. I don't think their QB is as good of a passer as Christion is but he's a more dangerous runner I think. I quit watching their game today after it got to 35-5 but their defense still seems a bit suspect. They were missing their Big Sky DOPY in DT Tiuli today and apparently it was a mystery as to why - he went out in that 2017 matchup between these two teams and EWU's run defense got shredded after that.

I think EWU can put up 20+ on the Bison defense but I doubt their defense can hold the Bison much below their scoring average this year (42) so I'd expect a final score about the same as the SDSU game.

Jokes about our opponent's speed aside...was impressed with EWU's overall speed on offense.

I do think their "Leave no doubt" motto on the back of their helmets needs to be mocked with signs and such.

EWU's play reminds me a lot of Sam Houston State or Jacksonville State. Could be that UMaine made them look great.... but "they have never seen a offense/defense like...." Who knows. We'll see in Fargo South.

Their offense looked great today but struggled at times against Davis the week before. Their QB is quick, Bison need to contain him.

EWU on offense appears to be similar SDSU except they appear to rely on big plays instead of methodically working their way down the field. Spy the QB with Cox and play just like we did on Friday. On defense, nothing stands out. Last year we put up 40+ in their house for the first time under Mess. I see a similar score to Friday in Frisco.

I watched Maine's first playoff game and they seemed a step slow, which would have helped EWU seem very quick today. Didn't see a lot of today's game, but it didn't seem like Barriere felt much pressure. Bison will be on him.

Yeah took us a while to get over the hump again but looking forward to the trip. I was too young and broke in 2010 to make it, but was at the infamous quarterfinal game that year and had fun tailgating with some Bison fans who came out. Wish the game wasn't so early in the day though.

I agree with this statement. Just came back to correct as I thought about it some more. The field logo also faces the press box and we wore white on the east sideline last year. JMU was higher seed and on west sideline.

From the Forum: points for/ against for each team. EWU 603/320, NDSU 584/165. Our offensive output could have been even more considering our 2nd and 3rd string were in for most games by late in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Barring any big plays by EWU, the Bison should roll in this one. This could be our best team ever, the offense is certainly better than any we've had during our run.

I'm wondering if the Bison put in any kind of special play or package for Trey Lance in this game? Both he and Stick have the athleticism that would allow them to get really creative. With 3 weeks off they could come with some pretty wacky concepts I'd think.

I always hear how the BSC plays no defense from those outside of the conference. Those in the conference seem to think the deflated defensive numbers are because the offenses are so good.

Got me thinking... are the Big Sky offense that much more productive than the other conferences say the MVFC.

Through 150 games the Big Sky averages 409.8 yards/game and 3.55 TD/game by the offense
Through 117 games the MVFC averages 404.5 yards/game and 3.62 TD/game by the offense

Let's call that pretty darn close for the average offense in both leagues.

Then just looking at offense I think it would be fair to draw some comparisons on the firepower of EWU and SDSU.

Yes and no. I talked to the Alumni Ass today. According to them----the fans like hanging out with other fans the most. So they are having a program but smaller than the past. Speakers havent been nailed down as of yet. But the venue does have a place for a small stage and space for 1500 fans. But the total venue over looks this space so everyone would be able to see and or hear the program. The place is a huge food court.

The Alumni Ass doesnt seem to be doing the job it once did. For 2 years they havent done anything for FB away games. They are supposedly concentrating on watch parties. Now this?????

This year the herd will be bigger so I can see the pep fest hitting capacity. I will be there plus 9.

More recently the "wash, rinse, repeat" part that I've seen is opposing fans facetiously spouting "Well, I guess we just shouldn't show up then since there's no possible way we can win".

By the time teams get to the championship game (or even the quarterfinals for that matter) their fans are always going to be confident that their team will win. I think the best thing to do is let them go just to see how deep into the spin zone they can get themselves and then watch their souls get crushed once the ball gets kicked off.

EWU is a very good team. They play defense this season. No coincidence why they're in Frisco and werent in past several seasons.

We will likely make them one dimensional. We have a fast defense that is tough up front and will likely have success running on them. I see another result around 3 score difference.

You'd think so but I'd guess that most newbs would secure tickets before doing anything else so maybe it has a bigger impact being the initial sticker shock. I'm sure there's plenty of theories as to why but it sure seems like they're going to have a lot smaller crowd there than they did in 2010.

He would miss open receivers with good protection. I think we just need to rush 4, spy with Cox, and play zone. He might still make some plays, but he will make some mistakes too.

The only thing I'm afraid of is the chuck and duck stuff that always seems to work against our secondary. Every time I see one of those long bombs go up, I firmly expect it to be caught. Need to have long, slow drives.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to convert any ticket to Flashseats as long as you have the barcode on them I think. You just have to call the NCAA ticket office. That's why people who post pictures of their tickets on social media that include the barcode are playing with fire.

I don't think they let you convert Flashseats to paper tickets though.

I think those are ticket "requests" to be fulfilled later by the broker. You don't get to pick seats. I don't think they believe they will sell out of these. I'll be interested to see what happens if they get more requests than tickets.

Yep, you basically buy the tickets from the NCAA and resell them. That's how the school allotments go.

Yep, at one time I had $54000 worth of tickets in the cart.

I think any school that qualifies for the playoffs is required to submit their championship allotment request to the NCAA before the playoffs start. The rumor was YSU's AD, either because he's incompetent or didn't think they would make it (or both), lowballed their request at something like 1000 or 1500 tickets. The NCAA gave JMU the first chance to claim those extra tickets and sell them as part of their allotment which they did. So EWU could've just claimed less than their full allotment and let NDSU sell the rest as part of their allotment but I suppose they figured selling them to the general public at least gives their fans some opportunity to still buy them whereas not claiming them would've given their fans no opportunity to buy them if they were playing a team like NDSU or JMU in the title game.

Wanna have fun call their ticket office. It goes to a third party vendor that has no clue what is going on. they then give a number back to the ticket office that eventual loops back to the 3rd party vendor. Here is the number from the offical EWU site---509.359.4339

Brooks will be fine... he was just cramping from what I understood. With Anderson and Wilson who knows but it seemed to be pretty minor leg injuries (quad for Bruce - hamstring for Seth) so I'd hope they're back as well. I forget where I heard it (from Jeremy on the coach's show maybe???) but I also heard that it'll be tough for Dunn to get healthy enough to play in the Natty.
