View Full Version : Colgate Post Game Thoughts

1) Amazing defensive performance. Great pressure by the d-front and solid on all ends. I hope everyone left in the field took note.
2) I also hope that the Klieman situation doesn't become a distraction. I fully believe he's gone. Will he finish the year like Bohl did?
3) Klieman just said it in post game comments but I'll reiterate once again: Easton Stick, still the best QB in FCS. Give him the Payton.
4) Great punting today. Against a hard nosed defense that really makes a huge difference.
5) Fingers crossed that Dunn is okay. Great game by Bruce yet again. Will we end up with a 1000 yard rusher this year? If we don't, when is the last time that happened?
6) Refs were bad today. Real bad. Missed holding calls, messing up despite 6 minute long reviews etc. I'm glad it happened in a game that we had in hand.
7) Bring on the Bunnies.

Stick looked incredible passing- refs were horrible.. the missed obvious holds... should have been 52-0

I do have to give Colgate credit as I dont remember the last time our RBs got smacked at the line... not just tackled but smacked..

Well has any QB out played him head to head? anyone else have 47 wins in college? Wentz was only considered a 4-5th rounder at this same point in their career.. so who knows what the future holds for Stick. :)

A comment on JMU's message board...the Jealousy and Butthurt is incredible...why I hate the One-Hit Wonders from Virginia...

"Outside of maybe 2 or 3 playoff games their entire 2010s decade run, all ndsu playoff games are the most boring every week. No one outside of Fargo cares. They’re mind numbingly boring.

I can’t wait to watch a better game at 2 and turn this garbage off."

FCS Playoff win number 30 for NDSU. (30-2)

For a little perspective, Northern Iowa's 1AA/FCS playoff record (since 1985) is: 24-20.

Colgate's front 7 were impressive against the run game. Yet we still went for over 200. That's insane.

What's more insane is I fully believe with a little help from replay and our coaches doing something they normally don't do, that Stick and his receivers could have put up 500 yards through the air today if they wanted to.

One of the great FCS teams ever fielded. It's complete. Special teams is fantastic. Offense is dynamic and unpredictable. Defense is savage and ball hawking. Perhaps better than the '13 Bison. Hard to compare against '95 Marshall and '95 Montana, but the '18 Bison will be among that conversation. We owe Coach Kleiman a lot for building these teams.

It seems like Mike is trying to be lead investigate reporter on this story. It also seems like he doesn't have the sources to do so, leaving him to ask his questions during a press conference, making generalizations and assumptions from others work (footballscoop), and using Twitter to form his story.

There was a reply to one of his tweets this week from Lecompt and if that reply is any indication of what the football program thinks of ol' Mikey he's probably not getting anywhere with his "investigating". It wouldn't surprise me if this were the case with the way he has handled things in the past, with just throwing things it there to see what sticks and sensationalizing stories.

Edit: just to add, I don't think everything reported about NDSU needs to have a positive spin or the media can't be critical, but it should be done in a professional manner. I haven't watched the press conference so I won't comment on whether the k-state questions were out of line or not. It is a story and those questions deserve to be asked (though not dominate a press conference after a quarterfinal game).

18 still has to win the Natty before we could even put them on a similar level, but if they do I’d say 18 without without blinking. Easton Stick is head and shoulders above Jensen, and Brock was a great college qb. That is one enormous difference in my eyes. Plus coach Mess calling plays is better than anything I’ve ever seen from NDSU

OK. just a little side note. The sweatshirt Dan Hunt was wearing looked like it came from Concordia.

I had to explain it to the people I was with.
Short sleeves hoodies ??? We’re they channeling their best Belichick.

Here is something that I had overlooked: prior to yesterday the Colgate defense had surrendered 77 points total in their previous eleven games. (Which I know were not in the MVFC)

What a Freaking BEAT DOWN NDSU dropped on Colgate! 35 - 0, 443 total yards & "36 minutes in possession time"!

I'm surprised that NDSU didn't have 14 extra points with 36 minutes of possession. You must have had some long, time consuming drives.

Congrats to the Bison once again!

I often thought 2013 was the best...still do because NFL..but 2018 is making a damn good case.

QB-wash..I suppose 2013 if you add the Carson effect
RB-2018 slim
WR-2013
TE-2018
OL-2013 because of Billy

DL-2018-insane
LB-2013-just bad ass
DB-2013-insane
Kicker-2013
punter-wash

Out dline this year is nuts. Seeing Menard and Tuszka meet at the QB is epic . So many good players on the dline its insane. We're literally 5 deep at DE. When you can slide Spencer Waege inside just to get him on the field, your good. When Cole Karcz isnt a starter, every team who plays us is fucked

Or call us "North Dakota" multiple times. :(

Or call us "North Dakota" multiple times. :(

At least at the beginning of the broadcast, the announcer called the Bison "College footballs greatest dynasty." Take that Mount Union and Alabama.

And 324 points on offense for an 11 game average of 29.5 ppg.

Perhaps? I acknowledge that I may be under the influence of the “recency effect” but I no longer believe there is a question that the ‘18 Bison Football Team is the finest of all during this run.

I am further convinced that they’re still sandbagging. Maybe we’ll see the real deal on Friday night.

I don’t think 2018 is better than 2013 YET but this 2018 team is still more or less not showing anything new because they don’t have to. Best part of Friday is we will see plenty that’s not on tape yet. Destroy SDSU and then the talk intensifies.

Which makes it all the more puzzling that TJ Holl said post game that at halftime they had the Bison right where they wanted them.

Say what?

McFeely is the least connected media guy to NDSU, so my guess him asking the KSU questions was planned in advance.

Exactly what I was thinking........the BigI3 (Mcfooley, Kolpack, and Izzo) probably flipped a coin. MM won, or lost. In his case, he probably thinks he won. Why? because he enjoys being the dipshit in the room

Right or wrong with the freeman catch I’ve been saying for a few years that we will get pylon cameras when we get screwed on a call and possibly lose a game because of it. Is it time for ndsu to add these to the dome??

How is asking a question that most of his readers are wondering about being a dipshit? I agree McFeely is arrogant and I don't always like his politics, but asking those questions is major part of his job. IMO, he and Klieman acted professionally in the exchange.

That would only matter if they were used for official reply cameras or not. I can't remember how that works. Is it only the a gles used for TV that get used for replay?

Yeah but, this is good ol' Mike were talking about here. You know ....... the guy who openly acknowledges trying to fan the flames on most subjects? So when a guy like that goes into a post game press conference and asks a question, and then immediately slips in 3 or 4 rapid fire "follow-up" questions before Klieman can even catch his breath or before any other reporters in attendance can get a question in ................ then I would say one party was being extremely professional (Klieman) and the other was less so.

You can't be a muckraking, opinionated firebrand in one breath, and then claim completely objective journalistic professionalism in the next. People catch on to that game pretty quickly.

BTW, Stick answered the questions brillantly as well. Just another opportunity for the program to demonstrate their professionalism. Which all the reporters did as well at the presser.

I loved it when the Coaches told the defense the best in the country was going to be in the Dome and it was up to them to decide which one.

2013 defense shut down some really good offenses (Beach chickens and Towson) in playoffs and this D still has to prove its metal against Rabbits and likely EW. Offense struggled some against rabbits in game one. I’ll hold off on my 2013 comparison/accolades until the team has finished their work. They have played great and I think Colgate D is legit and 35-0 is excellent to do on that team. Anyone still think we wouldn’t beat Army?

We would destroy Army. The triple option vs our line backers is laughable
