After finishing 7-5 overall and tied for fourth place in the Big Sky Conference, Cal Poly slipped to 1-10 and 12th place in 2017. As many as eight starters missed games due to injuries, including quarterback Khaleel Jenkins and fullback Joe Protheroe. Four of the six team captains suffered season-ending injuries. Jenkins, Protheroe, offensive linemen Harry Whitson, Zach Shallcross and Sam Ogee and defensive backs Dominic Frasch, Aaron Johnson and Carter Nichols all return this fall, bolstering hopes for a turnaround from the team that tied the school record for losses in a season.
I know very little about cal poly... what is their biggest strength and weaknesses?
Something Coach K mentioned on the air the other day that I had kind of forgotten about. The Bison prepped for them the week of the Cal Poly-San Diego playoff game a couple of years ago. Plenty of guys on our current roster that were involved in that prep. If there's a team out there that stays home, relies on their teammate, and plays sound discipline D...it's the Bison. Is it Saturday yet?
I know very little about cal poly... what is their biggest strength and weaknesses?
I don't claim to know a whole lot about them, but if I had to say what their strength might be I'd guess their 5'11" SR FB Joe Protheroe, and the option running game. Gotta maintain gaps and assignments to defend the option. I like our chances.

A while back some guy posted a few things about Cal Poly that might give you some insights on the "Countdown To Cal Poly" thread. There is also a short video of them running all over SDSU in the opener 2 years ago. If you are interested see posts #'s 74, 77, and 81 on that thread.

Me either, I was thinking the same thing. Don't even remember hearing his name when Coach Klieman rattled off a few WR names that were impressive during camp.

Thought maybe I heard he was listed as doubtful for game 1. Maybe that's NFL lingo and I'm making things up, but thought I heard something to that effect.

While not listed as a starter Cordell Volson will play a lot on the OL. 8-12 true freshman will dress on Saturday. Wimbush will be the nickel DB and he and Hendricks will split time otherwise at FS.

And with an extra emphasis on special teams, I suspect they're going to have plenty of good blocking out ahead and some huge holes to hit.

Interesting move. Definitely not something anyone was discussing at the end of last season. Closest thing would have been redshirting Seth Wilson, but this is a related curveball no one saw coming.

Next year he will have had a full year to learn it and will also have had experience as a receiver. By next year, Dimitri could be one hell of a player. While he was never a dominant receiver, hes certainly way above average catching the ball for a running back and is a huge threat with the ball in his hands. Hopefully we can make his 4 games count if that's the plan

Weird Al Yankovic is an alum. He recorded "My Bologna" in the restroom next to the student radio station...I have used that restroom. And Al got his Hollywood Star today! Is that a strength or a weakness?

There's also going to be 400-500 carries coming available with Dunn and Anderson (if both stay healthy) using up their eligibility this year.

Also, maybe he's going to be around next year anyway to finish school. I assume most guys take that 4-year degree and turn it into a 4-5 year degree (I did) and I didn't have any commitments like these guys have. The option to be able to play 4 games still gives him a chance to get time in.

A while back when I visited their site I was told that not very many would be coming because it wasn't going to be worth the trip. Now that is fan support.

Reading their fan site they are absolutely demoralized. I guess that's understandable when you are 1-10.
Anyone know who the few Bison players are that are awaiting some news on injury severity? Coach K mentioned there were a few such cases.

Also when there is a mass of people attempting to enter the west doors, you might get in faster by using the south door or east entrances.

It appears NDSU taking an entire section away from the student seating was the right call. Season opener student tickets, which used to sell out in two minutes Monday mornings back in my day , are still available.

The other teams [in addition to Indiana St] that opened in triumphant fashion after sub-.500 campaigns were Cal Poly, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, Maine, Montana State, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Southern Illinois and Wagner.

I've done the same thing before. I went to the ticket office and explained, they said it was ok and I used them all year with no issues.

Team Makers is pleased to announce that can and bottle recycling is now available during tailgating events!
Place your plastic bottles and aluminum cans in the clear plastic bags providedby the Team Makers staff. Bags will be collected by the Fargo Dome at the endof tailgating. Proceeds from the recycling program will come back to TeamMakers and support student-athlete scholarships.
This recycling is ONLY for aluminum cans and plastic bottles, tubs or jugs.
We cannot accept:
· Food waste
· Plastic silverware
· Paper products
