Sarah did not log many minutes, Reilly never played and Sofija can not play until after semester break. The best plays the team ran were out of bounds plays under the basket. Turnovers is really what concerns me for the fact they did not play an over the top tempo last night. Team speed also seemed an issue as Bulldogs beat them to several loose balls and down the floor on fast breaks. As long as I am at it rebounding on the defense end needs to improve.

Turnover margin -9. That is nine less shots potentially and also could be missed free throws.
Offensive rebound margin -8. Lets assume this lead to another shot and not a turnover. Between these two stats is 15 less shots. In the game Bulldongs took 15 more shots in the game. NDSU shot 57.8% for the game. If they have the 17 more shots listed above and shot 57.8% on them that is another (assume all 2 point shots). This is another 18-20 points.

Free throw % was 46.2 (6-13) ouch. Bulldogs were 15-18 (83.3%). There is no doubt this team still has work in front of them. Season is still 0-0 but there is a seat that is hot warm from last year.

A 9 point win over VCSU last year, a 7 point win over Dickinson the year before, and a loss to Crookston the year before that. No knock on the girls we have, as they are great in the classroom and in the community, but the recruiting that is done on this staff is awful. We are winning recruiting battles against NAIA and D2 schools for players that should play at those levels. Maybe Maren isn't a bad coach, I'd still like to believe that, but whoever is in charge of our talent pool should probably look for a different job. This team wouldn't win the NSIC this year, and that's a problem.

Maybe that's true for a few of them but let's be honest most should not be playing D1 BB. To continually make the same turnovers every game for 2-3 years, the players need to take some of that responsibility on too. Most of time they look like they are just going thru the motions. Probably came down to either more years or more money, the program was in ruins and GT didn't really have much leverage considering the state of the program. People weren't lining up for the job because Dorn let Dehoff destroy the program.

She doesn't know how to coach, and doesn't know how to recruit. Get rid of her during the season and get a jump on the hiring. No more DI assistants, hire a D2 Head Coach. If they can get someone that can at least either coach well or recruit well, NDSU can at least flirt with being a .500 ball club. Yep, that's where this program is at, aspiring to be average.

If you want to believe she is not one of the top 8-10 players on the team (which I don't believe), she is at least a team-first player. Every year the FB team has guys that work at practice, pushing others to get better, to elevate the program and rarely if ever see the field. Selfless players will be needed to resurrect this program.

Living in Jamestown I go watch U of J games all the time. The other night Jamestown and VCSU played. I think both teams would run more than NDSU could. I would hope the out come would still be an NDSU win but I am not sure after watching a loss to Duluth and a narrow win vs Mayville. Plus Mayville had like 10 airballs in the game. Time to cut bait and run.

Not sure if it would matter. One thing that could be done and maybe will is there are a few double headers this year. Sunday is the first . Men play at 1:00 and women at 4:00 IIRC. Don’t kick me out after men’s game and make me pay for women’s game. You might be able to keep some fans around. Yes I know there are season ticket issues but I think that could be worked around pretty easily. It is not the cost keeping from going since I have men’s season tickets but it would be a nice gesture and I might stick around Sunday.

Per Izzo on WDAY Sarah Jacobsen is redshirting due to ongoing medical issues. She had played 59 straight games until Tuesday nights.

I saw the game on tv . It was hard to watch. As a team, SU can't shoot at all. Way too many turnovers. They are down to 7 or 8 ballplayers. Uffda.

Neither team could shoot the 3 in the first half, not sure if UNH ever did make one.
When Michelle Gaislerova started hitting them in the 2nd half it broke UNH. They went to a chaser on her and then that let NDSU feed Voegoli on the baseline over and over again.
Overall NDSU looked a lot better in the games since Mayville.

Marina shows really good speed and hands, but not the best on defense, and appears not to be confident in her shooting, but passed to the open person, but sometimes to aggressively

I think she was playing who can find me again :) I was pretty sure she was up in the upper section sitting by the rail on left side...Hard to see, but looked like her. She moved to a different section each of the previous games.

I dont know about the possible redshirt, but from observations, if RJ was redshirting she would still be participating in warms up drills, and sitting
with the team on the bench during games as SJ does. RJ is not doing either but still attending games. She was in the area of the bench prior to the 1st game, but went to the locker room
and sat elsewhere.

I would think that the redshirt theory is not correct, unless she is redshirting after the suspension.

Not defending or say Richman deserved his contract but your counterpart gets paid just so things are “equal” and not based on experience but gender.

I am starting to come around to your idea that the current coach may not be performing so well. Only 4-5 more years of this, and I will be convinced.

I have not seen a game in years. I know we are done, but I will not pin the state of the program on 18-22 yr females (the players). At this point, the problem is not them. It is the coach and it even goes higher up to the AD. Heck, maybe it is my fault.. I have not started a petition for the coach's firing... or I have not been in the stands to cheer them lately :hide: Anyways, all I am saying.. is let's not point our fingers at the players. They were recruited here and some are playing a lot of minutes.
Also giving SF their 4 win of the season sucks!

NDSU womens basketball can't really get any worse than it is. If you go on Massey Rating, NDSU would be barely favored over programs like U Mary, Jamestown, & Minot state.

I'm questioning the leadership also. It doesn't seem like it matters who the coach is but the results are the same. I can't imagine that this is going to be that attractive of a job for anybody outside the program. I'm not sure what is going on but it feels like there is something missing.

No ball handlers, no floor leaders, no physicality in what ever bigs we have. I've seen TONS of girls high school games all over the country. I can see who can play and who can't. So far the coach doesn't seem to have that vision of talent, which is strange given her background. The players we have lack in everyway to compete at the D1 level. They may be college level players but not D1. facts is facts. Walseth's best year was her first with none of her players, and a point guard who had that swagger to make the team interesting at least.

Just to put something into perspective right now, in Massey Ratings combining all divisions:

MSUM is ranked 183

NDSU is ranked 387

We are 204 spots behind a division 2 program in the same exact region. We are either recruiting the wrong players and/or developing them incorrectly. We are basically better off just offering any player that gets an offer from MSUM right now in hopes that they will choose division 1 of division 2.

The Coyotes (12-2) wrapped up the program's best nonconference record in NCAA Division I. South Dakota compiled a 10-game win streak during nonconference action and recorded a pair of wins over AP Top 25 teams, the first in the program's history. The Coyotes took down No. 23/22 Iowa State 64-59 at home and No. 22/24 Missouri 74-61 on the road.


South Dakota had their 10 game winning streak stopped by Indiana (11-1) 68-60 at a tournament in Puerto Rico.

I have not been to a Womens BB game since our we played UND in the Ralph about 10 years ago (and won I think), why cant this program compete? At least for home games?

For starters

Never have a full compliment of players. So by this time of the year down to about 9 available instead of 15 on scholarship.

Players that come don't stay.

Don't necessarily recruit players from the region that might be D1 players. UND gets the better local players, and even they have issues.

Players that do come and stay don't seem to get improve- Sarah Jacobson for example.

Head coach isn't visable. Nor is she personable. At Chicago Nike tournament last summer, 4 NDSU camp attendees were playing in a game. She never made an effort to say hello to the parents or the players.

Top local kids have no interest in the program.

Better teams locally. University of Mary, MSUM, and Augustana to name a few.

most of the team, english is their second language... this coach fills the team with European players who have never ever learned defense, and this coach sure as hell isn't coaching them up either....

Oh and btw, I took a load of crap from ...ville calling out this coach during her second year here. I took a lot of insults.. but whatever... I could see the way this was going, Her 1st year here, her pg surely covered up all her shortcomings as a coach. she can't coach and her people skills preclude her from being able to recruit. Not to kick a dead horse, but the handling of Holly was despicable. The glory of beating the Jacks, watching AJ break his clipboard in half won't be repeated for years to come... None of those players on that team were Maren's...

Whether or not the girls at these schools can play the D1 level ( I think statewide UND has signed 4 for next year), you need to have a relationship with the HS coaches.

100% on Gene Taylor, Lynn Dorn and Matt Larsen. All of them dropped the ball, some of them did so repeatedly and now the program is at rock bottom. Obviously Larsen inherited this disaster, now he needs to be proactice on fixing it or the dumpster fire will continue burning and it will be on him.

She should have been fired before the season began instead of waiting the contract out. This is coming from an accountant like me, because as someone said you can't afford to let her finish the season. We need something changed now as you are just delaying another year of negative return both as a product and financially.
