Weather forecasts more than five days out are basically useless. With that said, given how deep the jet stream has dipped into the USA, it is very likely going to be a very chilly day.

I'll take that forecast over what I saw a few days ago. It was saying 60% of rain for most of the day on Saturday. That would make for an interesting game, and an annoying ride back for us that need to drive back right after the game.

Was at the '86 Augustana game - probably the most fun I've had... guys were sliding down headfirst down the aisles and, by the second half, we all were comfortable. Kinda looked like the second half at ISU-R was a little more comfortable too.

After the first score at isu-r the crowd became more excited, thus more active and in turn it became more confortable. As always, a win makes it all better.

PlainsBison
12-30-2017, 02:29 PM
I tend to read the weather forecast discussions that come out twice a day instead of the specific forecast for the day. This one is interesting from this morning.

By the weekend the upper level pattern will become more zonal and a developing Pacific storm system will bring southerly winds and gulf moisture northward. When the rich moisture tries to dislodge the cool air near the surface it looks like we will contend with cloudy, cool, damp, and possibly foggy conditions next weekend.

Here is some science to stay warm. I know science doesnt bwlong here, but. On myth busters they found when your core is kept warm your body heats your hands and feet. When your body is cold it pulls heat from limbs to protect the core. I use some hand warmers or atick on warmers around my back or stomach. I can be out in the cold for long periods and feel great for 5 bucks top.

I had Rob Kupec as a classmate a few years ago in graduate school. I asked him how weather forecasting is different today than in the past. He said, and I have followed this and he is probably pretty right, in the past it was considered really good if you could get it right about 3 days out. With today's equipment and techniques, meteorologists are predicting 10 days out with way over 90+% accuracy.

I just looked up next Saturday. Kickoff around 43 and get to around 48, at best. It will feel like high 30s to low 40s. That seems about right for 4 of the 5 years down there.

That's so cute. If you been to DFW, you know there a whole a lot of bridges and some of them of few stories.... Anytime it rains and below freezing, you gonna get an advisory as those bridges are going to get icy very very fast. Millions of cars and icy bridges is not a good situation...

Millions of cars and icy bridges is not a good situation...when I lived in DFW I had to commute from Lewisville/Flower Mound to Fort Worth.. I drove through Kentucky once during a blizzard and there were cars all over the place. I was in my Outback with snow tires and got pulled over. The cop said I was scaring the hell out of people. Not only were there are lot of cars without winter tires, there were a lot without even all-season radials.

I have to think you would see all-season tires in DFW area, but if not, just the slightest amount of freezing on the roads and it would make for very difficult driving. Plus like you said, no investment in anti-freeze on the bridges. I am sure there are not a lot of people even in the FM area that know a lot of the bridges here have anti-freeze sprinkler systems on them.

I was in the DFW area this week and they were putting down salt brine on all the bridges and major highways in anticipation of winter weather which does mean ice or minor snow there. Not sure if any of the smaller roads were getting any saline love, though (probably not).

Any rain, not necessarily freezing in Dallas causes oil to come from the roads and they get slippery for the locals driving anyway. Not necessarily for tourists...

12-31-2017, 08:54 PM
It was the same thing in Portland where it only snows on average once or twice a year with a few days of freezing rain most winters. One time I had to help push a BMW out of the way to get to my wife's office when tire chains were required to be on the roads and she was probably running some kind of summer tires. Just look how crappy some people up here drive in the first snow and then realize that most people in Dallas don't drive in snow or ice more than once in a typical winter.

Come on, now...OU football expenses are only $130,000,000 per year. How can you run a respectable football program on anything less??? The mere thought of spending money on a snow plow used half a dozen times every 2 or three years is unthinkable when you can put that same money into a football stadium used 7 times per year. That is obviously fiscally irresponsible.

So on tony's first post Friday lows of 31 (accuweather) and 28 (weather.com) (for 1/1 forecase) will indicate morning @ 6am is probably going to be right around those temperatures and the high will not be achieved until around 3-4 pm.

Sunny and 50 @ kickoff time with ~10 mph wind from SE west side should feel pretty good!

Oops, forgot to update this.

It does show that the weather forecast means nothing more than 5 days out.

Looking like it'll be a very decent day. Probably will not beat Towson game when it got to 60s towards the end of the game but will be close!

A lot better than the crap we've had for the past 2 or so weeks anyway!
