Anyone know what kind of crowd we need at SDSU to make it into the top ten in 1AA attendance. Weren't we like 17th last year. That would be pretty good to be in the top ten. I would think it would look good to conferences also.

I don't know, but UNC's game didn't help matters.

I think we are averaging a little over 13,000 say 13,500 over 5 games. To average 15,000 over 6 games we are going to need over 22,000. If we sold out with about 18,000 we would be around 14,250/game for 6 games.

Right now NDSU is 13th in average attendance. If the SDSU game sells out at 18,700 fans NDSU will average 14,648 and that would put NDSU 10th in average attendance. So we are going to need a sell out to be in the top 10.

I really thought that UNC would be a better draw then 10000 and change. *I know it was the deer opener but I was still expecting 15K plus. *Are there really 5 thousand deer hunters that missed the game last weekend b/c of hunting? *I had earlier predicted a sellout for the SDSU game but now I'm not so sure.

We have averaged exactly 13,837 thru 5 games. In order to get a 14,000 average, we'd need to get exactly 14,815 on Saturday, and to get a 14,500 average, we'd need to get 17,815 for the game.

I think we'll be close to an 18,000 mark, bringing us just over 14,500 average for the year.

If we sniff 18,000 I will be amazed, at this point, the rivalry is a lot bigger in the "messageboard world" than in the real world.

For some reason, UNC hasn't been a good draw with the exception of one game that I can remember in the last 20 years.

2002 - 10,620 per game
2003 - 11,567 per game
2004 - 13,269 per game
2005 - 11,531 if nobody shows up for the Bunny Battle It sure would be nice to see that average crack 14,000.

Keep in mind this is North Dakota.

I would say YES, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I didn't draw a tag or I would have been gone also...
Hunting season in general hurts football attendance alot in this area of the country.

A 7pm kickoff would have done wonders for attendance on the Saturday of deer opener.

There couldn't have been 300 students at the game on saturday. Do they all hunt all 12,000?

Did anyone realize that it wasn't just deer opener but also state semifinals for the football playoffs which i am sure drew a good crowd away from the game. Also do any of you drive and see all the machines in the fields. They are called combines and tractors and take people to run them. My bet is that the football game was a a pretty low priority for most everyone. A smart athletic dept would have had a later start time like the previously mentioned 7 pm to at least tempt some of these people to come to town. Bison football games are fun but for most of the state they just aren't important.

agreed. however, i'm not sure its totally up to the home team what time each game is scheduled at, it might be a contract thing or something none of us ever really hears about. but yes, if they want to maximize the amount of people at the games, these things need to be taken into consideration.

No need in pounding on the Athletic Dept. The Harvest Bowl is traditionally in the afternoon.

ND issues roughly 100,000 tags a year. That's 1 tag for every 6 or 7 people. Against our average attendance for a football game, we could reasonably estimate the impact at 2,000 to 2,500.

~140,000 tags this year.

OK, so the estimated hit to attendance is more like 3,000 then. That would account for most of the difference between the UNC crowd and the average.

That, and UNC games have historically had lower attendence. Don't know why. ???

The Harvest Bowl game is the time to shine for the College of Agriculture. About 60 couples are brought in to get an "Achievment Award" at a Friday night banquet one from each county in ND and from Western MN counties. It is also used to get agriculture to contribute to Athletic scholarships. The Harvest Bowl committee wants these people and several hundred agriculture leaders to stay for the football game. An evening game was tried and virtually none of them were left in town for the game. There is a campus tour and breakfast at the Alumni Center. This is often the first time awardees are on the campus and they are influential in their communities. There is also a single agri-business person of the year award. Changing the scedule would not be really feasable unless we wnted to Separate the agriculture awards entirely from the football game.

OMFG, I hope that doesn't happen!

It would be like not picking up your sapling after the Trees Bowl!

Agriculture is the best state wide lobbying group for NDSU.
