Interesting women’s exhibition basketball game tonight in Brookings,
MSU Moorhead takes on the Jackrabbits at 7:00. SDSU picked to finish 1st in the Summit, MSU Moorhead picked to finish 1st in the NSIC. Drew Sannes, 6’ 3” F/C, Preseason Player of the Year in the NSIC. (15.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg). Sannes is from Hawley, kinda disappointed she is not a Bison. Too bad, but I believe that was the previous coach who was not interested (along with other D1 coaches).
So can the Dragons hang with the Big-Time Jackrabbits?
At least for a while???
If NDSU is going to keep scheduling D2 teams to get home games, would like to see Moorhead back on the schedule. Both men’s and women’s. The Dragons, being local, might help sell out the SHAC, maybe bring some atmosphere to an early season game......

Kansas star freshman to be held out against South Dakota State tonight - ESPN3 7:00

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/21415958/billy-preston-kansas-sit-review-car-accident-complete

Jayhawks coach Bill Self suspended Preston just minutes before Friday's season opener against Tennessee State, after he learned Preston broke curfew and also missed a class the morning of the game.

"On Saturday, Billy was involved in a single-vehicle incident on-campus," Self said in a statement released just before Tuesday night's game. "There were no injuries but Billy's car sustained damage. After I learned about the incident, I reported it to our administration. The administration determined that we needed a clearer financial picture specific to the vehicle, we decided to hold him out of tonight's game and will continue to do that until the review is complete."

Like LiAngelo Ball of UCLA, puts a different picture to any possible one-and-done strategy......

Who might be a prospect? How about a former CSU assistant?

In women’s basketball South Dakota goes undefeated in the Summit (14-0) (24-5) beating SDSU in Vermillion last night. This is a rare season where 2 teams could make the NCAA’s from the Summit League. SDSU may have a high enough ranking to get in as an at-large, if they can win a couple more games in the Summit tournament. USD might need to win the tourney to qualify. Before this game, RPI had SDSU at #32, USD #57.

Same 2 schools play for the Summit men’s title tonight at 7:00
on MidCo and ESPN3, in Brookings.

Miller has been suspended. My guess is he is done, and the school hopes that by doing so they can avoid the NCAA coming down hard on them.

Watching Kansas/Penn. No matter what happens down the stretch, Penn looks better than any time I watched NDSU this year. I'm guessing Penn isn't any guys that wouldn't qualify as "Bison" guys. Penn hasn't been doing anything spectacular just hanging with KS. This has reinforced my opinion DR needs to go.

Was glad to see Oklahoma lose to Rhode Island.
At 18-14, 8-10 non-con, the Sooners NCAA spot should have gone to someone else. Heard there were no mid-major at large picks, would rather see another one of the mid-majors than an 18-14 P5.

SDSU is showing just how much of a gap there is between their program and NDSU's program just by the way they are competing. I think you could have taken Daum completely off their roster and they still would have beat NDSU 3 times this year.

Normally I would say their coach and USD's coach are great for the competitively level of the Summit, but as long as Richman continues this slide at NDSU we aren't going to be even conference competitive with those 2 teams any time soon.

Really sad.

When you play that slow you’re kind if inviting upsets.

Speaking of variance, I recently heard a suggestion to shorten basketball game times and increase action by changing the rule on two and three shot fouls. Instead of getting 2 or 3 free throws, the shooter would only take 1 but it would be worth 2 or 3 points instead.

The more you watch the worse your bracket will beNext year im gonna get someone who watched zero college bball the last 10 years to fill out my competitive bracket. I'll have certain guidelines like winner must be a 1-3seed, a first four winner must win round 1 maybe round 2, and the 12/5 upset. The rest is up to him

I have those little rules too but it's the exceptions that kill me. For example I hate picking AZ or Xavier cuz they usually crap the bed. But when I ick against them...they go on a run. I don't like picking teams that barely Mae tourney but that happened the year UConn won. Yes I picked Okla this year. Now with a one seed losing? WTH???

Depending on how many total sheets are in your pool, you’re got to take more risks if you want to win. Correspondingly, you shouldn’t get too worked up when your bracket gets busted. A bust proof bracket is never going to win a pool of substantial size.

I had MSU over Xavier, I thought Msu Duke winner would make it all the way. Only claim to fame I have is I took A&M to Elite 8.

There's only a handful of us who picked Duke to win it...Now it's all about getting the most f4 teams in over the other dukies. I was going to go with nova but then I'd have to get a lot more early round games right and be less risky

I had a perfect Thursday afternoon which only meant Thursday night and probably Friday would suck....which it did.

Loyola Taking it to K-State, but USD is better of course!!

I think we see an 11 Seed in the Final Four, unless they fall apart, and with this years shakeups they will give anyone trouble the way they move the ball

This is why i dont bet on sports outside of bowl season/NCAA tournament bracket and occasional superbowl squares.

FSU not fouling is pure stupidity. then the dumbass coach at the end acted offended that a reporter would ask why they didnt foul with 10 seconds left only down 4.

FSU was +4.5 so theres some happy gamblers tonight with that decision.

Why not Loyola?

Hard not to root for them. Fun to watch and their success will be huge for the MVC. But I’d be much more ‘on-board’ with one of the MVC publics, since this just solidifies adding more non-FB privates in the future.

To win it all? They haven’t really faced a hot high seed yet …

#Gophers should go after this grad transfer. Averaged 18.7 ppg 3.1 apg for Coyotes as a junior. Could be another Akeem Springs. Mooney 6-3, 210 guard from Illinois.

I have been give my release from South Dakota. I am not for sure leaving USD, but I will be exploring my options as a grad transfer.

Matt Mooney will have choices......

Right now the list of schools that we have put together is not a group that has all contacted Matt yet, but they are a list of schools that have shown some type of interest. Those schools are: Florida, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Creighton, Utah State, Arizona State, San Diego State, SMU, Northwestern, Ohio State, and several others. Matt is expected to be one of the most heavily recruited graduate transfers on the market.

The Gophers just lost a Freshman guard who is leaving. 3 available scholarships now. Mooney could be a good combo guard for them and fill a short term need.

Arizona State’s Bobby Hurley will meet with Matt Mooney today, source told ESPN. Mooney might wind up being the most coveted available grad transfer.

Texas Tech to hire Minnesota’s Head Coach, Marlene Stollings.
SDSU’s Coach among those mentioned as possible Gopher candidates for their next women’s head coach by the StarTribune.
(After a discussion of if Minnesota Lynx Lindsay Whalen would take the job)

Other possible names to watch include South Dakota State coach Aaron Johnston, Notre Dame assistant coach Niele Ivey and Gophers assistant Nikki Lowry-Dawkins.

Gophers were 24-9, 11-5 Big 10. Lost to Oregon in the 2nd round of the NCAA’s.

..... South Dakota State relieved......

This is a WOW hire for the Gophers.
As in we just hired Lindsay Whalen......WOW.
Could go great, could go really not so great.
She has The Name, just no coaching experience, so can bring Jim Peterson or others with who do.

Next big question for Gopher fans. What is Whalen’s relationship like with Paige Bueckers???
Could Minnesota have a chance with recruiting her??? (Just finished her sophomore season at Hopkins)
(It would be kinda like if the Jones brothers had stayed home instead of going to Duke)

Just talked to Bob Bueckers, father of Hopkins star Paige, one of the top players nationally. His reaction to Whalen news? "Wow," he said.
Bob said Paige has a signed Whalen jersey hanging in her room and also a signed pair of Whalen's game shoes that she gave her.
