A pretty good streak. Never thought about it. I'm sure Klieman hates the press.

I wonder what the streak is for consecutive weeks in the top 10? Unless they dropped below that after losing to Montana or USD in 2015 (and I don't think they did) that's gotta be close to 100 as well. To me that's more impressive since its not too tough to be one of the 25 best teams in the FCS but being in the top 10 and staying in the top 10 for as long as they have is remarkable.

Beginning of the 2011 season, I don't know if we were top 10. I thought we opened at #11, but that could have been a different poll.

Yeah, definitely possible but even if that's the case they should be in the 90s since their streak didn't start long before that.

So I got curious and went through the Sports Network/STATS polls from 2010 through now (taken from wikipedia):
-We started 2010 unranked, got up to #13, dropped back out of the poll, back in week 9, got up to #17 in week 11, finished regular season at #25 and ended year at #9 after playoffs.
-Started 2011 #11 in preseason, entered top 10 in week 2: NDSU has not been out of the top ten since.
-Also in 2011, we entered the top 5 in week 4: the only time since that week that we have been out of the top 5 was for the 3 weeks following the loss at home to South Dakota in 2015 (fell to #8, then crept back to top 5).
-Lowest rankings: 2011-->11, 2012-->4, 2013-->1, 2014-->4, 2015-->8, 2016-->4, 2017-->2

Long story short: Top 10 since week 2 of 2011. Top 5 for all but 3 weeks since week 4 of 2011.

Gonna be tough, but if NDSU wins this weekend, that'll also be 100 wins this decade.

Only 3 FCS schools have ever done that (Holy cow, Montana!)

Decade
Team
Wins

2000's
Montana
119

1990's
Youngstown State
103

2000's
Appalachian State
101

Heck, NDSU had "only" 103 wins in the 1980s which was unheard of for a D2 team. Of course, NDSU only played 10 regular season games back then and only 8 teams made the playoffs until 1988 (so there was a max of 3 playoff games.)

Just some quick math here, but I come with 37 more wins for us by Dec 31, 2019. Of course I suppose there's the slight possibility we lose one or two games somewhere along the line.

8 more this year, 15 in '18, and '19 is a 12 game regular season so 15 more (minus the '19 natty in January 2020).

Glad to be corrected. Forgot about that 12 game season.

I see us beating Montana's record. We need 21 wins in the next 2 1/2 years to break it. There are 27 regular season games left to play before 2019 is over. So not counting potential 3 years of playoff games, we need to go 21-6 to get the record. Seems pretty attainable.

What is funny about that is there are 99% of FCS programs right now who would take 21-6, sight unseen, until the end of 2019. We are like, nah, let's play 'em out and see what happens. There's always that chance of winning all 27.

How does Montana have that many wins and so few Championships?

How does Montana have that many wins and so few Championships?

Some teams are good at making the Championship, but can't finish the mission. This happens in a lot of sports. I lived through it too many times as a young kid while watching my Broncos get massacred in the Super Bowl.

The Bison on the other hand, have been strong finishers since the age of Mudra.

Never understood why pollsters do that to a team after they lost... Just because a team lost, doesn't mean you have to drop them 7 spots behind a bunch of teams with the same amount of losses albeit earlier season losses, knowing in the back of their minds that ndsu would probably beat that team.

Maybe they get bored of putting ndsu at 1 or 2 and like to see their polls look different time to time?

I mean how exciting would it be to have ndsu lose to UNI and drop them behind North Carolina a&t?? Even tho ndsu would win by 35 against a&t

Pollsters have to be drooling

I think JJ said on the Bison Football Show that NDSU is 90-7 in the last 97 games. Three more wins in a row would be nice to get to 93-7. I'm not great at math, but I think that would be a 93% winning percentage.

They played in a lot of championship games. They were national runner ups in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2009 (along with their 2001 title).

If they were SHSU they'd have a whole closet full of t-shirts from the 2000s.

Do you ever ask a question even when you know the answer just cause it's fun to hear it.
