Same hometown as former Bison great Colten Heagle.

Welcome DJ!

DJ is also a highly productive name for a Bison RB. :D

Welcome DJ Stewart!

Comes from a great Kimberly WI program. Kimberly has won 4 state titles in a row.
They have also won 56 games in a row.
IIRC Stewart is very good in track also (hurdles? school record?)

How 'bout that recruiting! 1st a QB, then a WR, now a RB.....
Talk about filling the skill positions.....:)
Great to see such leadership in the recruiting class!

edit: checked BisonReport and they retweeted KimberlyTrack

DJ Stewart broke the 300M Hurdles record, ran a 38.42
Also did 21' 4.5" in the long jump

Funny he didnt get any D1 offers yet from the Michigan/Illinois directional schools

Great athlete, will be fun to watch how NDSU uses him.

That must be his school's record in the 300 meter hurdles.
Wisconsin high school record is 37.49. Not that it matters......38.42 is still fantastic.

Side note and perhaps the most ridiculous thread drift in football forum history..........

North Dakota high school record: 37.06
Minnesota high school record: 36.59.

This kids just a great athlete across the board. As a junior he ran the 55 meter hurdles in 7.72. That's not a bad time for if it wasn't a hurdle.

D.J. Stewart a finalist for RB honors in Wisconsin.
The award has one of the all-time great names!
Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch Award Finalists.

D.J. Stewart, Kimberly - While Kimberly has seen its share of blowouts this year, the Papermakers have had to grind out a few wins along the way. Stewart came up big in those games. Against Fond du Lac in Week 1, he scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns in a comeback victory, had 248 yards and the go-ahead score against Neenah, and posted 136 yards in a hard-fought victory over Appleton North. In total the North Dakota State recruit has 1,389 yards and 19 touchdowns, after earning WFCA All-State recognition last season when he rushed for 1,857 yards and 32 scores. "DJ is an electric playmaker who can play multiple positions," said head coach Steve Jones. "He can run between the tackles, get to the edge, and stretch the defense by playing wide receiver."

Also a finalist is Colton Kizewski, Stevens Point, whose brother Victor is a current Bison - RFr WR (iirc a PWO recruit).
Colton has 1818 rushing yards and 19 td’s this season.

DJ Stewart runs wild as Kimberly Papermakers beat Marquette in Division 1 playoff game

Steve Jones didn’t mince words when it came to DJ Stewart’s performance Friday night.

“I think it was the best game DJ has put together this year in terms of physicality, the pad level,” Jones said. “He really ran hard.”

Stewart rushed for 263 yards on 30 carries and scored three touchdowns in leading the Papermakers to a 49-33 second-round Division 1 victory over the Hilltoppers at Papermaker Stadium.

On the roster, he is listed as a WR.

With how much we expect wr and rbs to block I wonder if they'd put him in the backfield for the 3 back series. Would bring rb skills and wr routes to that series. Mismatch

That's what I was thinking. Hope we land a big RB commit this year. Would like to have confidence that pipeline is full.

Well, that sucks. Was he still an RB? I seem to remember talk of him moving to WR???

On one hand it seems like odd timing since there's a golden opportunity for carries this spring at NDSU especially if there are more RB injuries (why not wait until after the spring season to transfer???). On the other hand he appears to be clearly behind 3 other RBs that are younger than him in Kobe, Bussey, and Gonnella so I guess it makes some sense.

He started out as a WR and then moved to RB late in 2019. He did get some carries against USD (5 carries 35 yards). Sophomore redshirt (who can transfer and not lose any eligibility), behind a fellow sophomore and two freshman. Maybe even a third freshman in TK Marshall. I think he saw the writing on the wall.

Not when you have Marshal right behind Gonella. It’s obvious he got passed up on the depth chart and saw the writing on the wall when Gonella went in.
