Loving the PAC-12 bravery in that their willing to take on a challenging FCS school while the Big 10 is completely out, the Big 12 is now afraid and the ACC and SEC schools only play Southern FCS schools.

Awesome!! Glad the PAC 12 is willing to play FCS schools and pretty much giving the B1G the (F'hawking) bird.

2020- Oregon

2022- Arizona

2024- Colorado

It's looking to me like a significant driver in this matchup is that Arizona has been struggling with football attendance. Averaged a stated attendance of ~48K last year, with reports of actual attendance being much lower. Arizona stadium holds 57,400. I'll bet they would love an additional 5K+ tickets sold.

I'm a little surprised and disappointed with a smaller guarantee of only $425k for the game, especially with Oregon paying $650k two years earlier in 2020 and Colorado paying $700k two years later in 2024.

I think that the low payout may be for a few reasons: (these are just spit-balling ideas, nothing definitive)

1. Arizona is historically a mediocre team that has had a few good years here and there.
2. We have a great record against FBS teams.
3. Maybe Arizona will be giving NDSU some tickets where that can "do with as they please" (sell), especially if Arizona has a hard time selling tickets.
4. NDSU wanted to get a guarantee game set in stone.

Kind of related - I wouldn't be surprised if NDSU schedules like Montana does - a FBS game every other year along with a FCS home and home. The road game would be the year we don't have a FBS game scheduled.

It could look like this:
2020 - at Oregon, FCS in Fargo
2021 - FCS return game away

2022 - at Arizona, FCS in Fargo
2023 - FCS Return game away

2024 - at Colorado, FCS in Fargo
2025 - FCS return game away

Yo, Nat, funny you should mention Bed, Bath, and Beyond having a sale. My brother-in-law's wife manages that store. I'll ask her about upcoming sales. The wife and I spend a week in Tucson every March. If this game is going to be played in late August or early September, well, if you think the Kansas State game was warm, you ain't seen or felt nothing yet. BTW I am excited about this game and will be there.

You are correct, Sir. When we were there, the temps were 92 to 95 degrees everyday. But, the humidity was either 1 or 2 %. ( that's not a typo). 95 with 1 % humidity was really comfortable for this northern plains dude, especially after this past winter.

Low humidity also makes winter weather more bearable. 20 degrees in Minnesota feels like subzero weather in Colorado. With that said, I really enjoy Colorado weather.

Kansas State?

KState was at night and the tailgate in the sea of students was littered with canopy shelters in the afternoon...plus some of us had too much fun in aggieville the night before and missed part of the extreme heat.

Iowa had zero breeze, 2 clouds and constant sun for 95% of the stadium not underneath a scoreboard. the whole stadium erupted when a cloud gave us 10 seconds of relief

I went out there in early September a few years ago. It was hot. I couldn't get over how warm it was while we were sitting on the deck at 9-10 at night.

We also went golfing and it was 114 on my drive back from the course. It was fun but maybe a little much on 45 minutes of sleep after partying in old town.

Arizona just hired thr Patriots QB coach. Jedd Fisch

4 points

#1. NDSU by 20+ in this game now

#2. He blocked clay travis for 0 reason (SOFT!)

#3 He was FSU qb coach and went on WCCO and said Ponder will be a Pro Bowl QB for Vikings

#4 Why would you hire someone who said. "Oh yea, Cam Newton will be awesome this year" and you coach him up to suck even worse HAS to be a terrible coach

I was told by someone on this very website that this matchup should not excite me any more or any less than an average Missouri Valley matchup.

However, I do have eyes, ears, and approximately 2 brain cells (not much more than that though) to rub together so I choose to remain excited for this game. It's old and not very cheap, but Hotel Congress is where John Dillinger was caught if you think it's cool to stay in a part of American history. It also had a night club last time I was there (like 10 years ago).

As for eating options, just get Mexican food. The stuff there (well in AZ in general) is more Sonoran influenced than Tex-Mex though, so if you are expecting EVERYTHING to be spicy then you'll be disappointed. Not that you can't get spicy food, and I would say it's about 50/50 here, but you will also get some nice regional dishes. red sauce or spicy salsa and stuff, it's just that are more like this:

Can't recommend anywhere specific since I hardly ever go to Tucson because Phoenix kinda has everything in the state outside of the natural beauty of northern AZ

Oh, one more thing, you can buy and consume any THC product you want or just a good old-fashioned joint in AZ, but don't try to take it with you.

Sounds like they are bringing in more talent next year. I would guess we will face a better AZ team than 2021 saw. I’d actually love if they could beat San Diego State and Mississippi State before our game kinda like Iowa before our 2016 game. Pretty decent chance AZ goes 0-3 in non con next year though. Funny thing is, their non con schedule is harder than much of their Pac 12 schedule. I wonder how many of their fans realize that

De Laura, who has three years of eligibility remaining, threw for 2,789 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2021 for the Cougars. He had 259 yards and a career-high four TD passes in a 44-18 win over Arizona in November and was named the Pac-12's Offensive Freshman of the Year.

He was knocked out of WSU’s loss to Central Michigan in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31, then entered the NCAA transfer portal over the weekend, not long after the Cougars offered Incarnate Word transfer QB Cameron Ward, who committed to WSU on Monday.

However, I do have eyes, ears, and approximately 2 brain cells (not much more than that though) to rub together so I choose to remain excited for this game. I'm thinking they'll keep it. They likely aren't a bowl contender next year either so losing this game probably doesn't hurt them for the post-season. If they lose I think their fans will recognize they didn't lose to a "lowly" FCS team so there isn't a huge risk there. If this game likely means the difference between 5-7 or 6-6 or maybe 8-4 or 9-3 and a better bowl game. Unless they want to get a road game for money or pick up an FCS opponent that would more likely be a win I don't see them buying it out. Both of those probably upset their fans more than losing to a very good Bison team.

Arizona is not a good football team. There is no reason NDSU shouldn't go into Tucson and expect to win. Arizona (and any fans they might have) know they aren't good now.

So they are going to start a bunch of fresh out of high school kids this year, and instantly win 6 or 7 more games, when they barely mustered one win last season? Don't see it.

If anything starting high school kids against our OL and DL will only assure they get crushed even harder.
It will be fun to embarrass them on national TV. Maybe the PAC-12 will be shamed into adding the Bison, ha. Probably not, but with a little luck maybe the MWC gets more interested.

So far, it's looking like I may have a group of 8-10 who want to go. The funny part is that I'm the only "true" Bison fan among us. Of the 8 I have so far, 5 of them didn't even know who the hell NDSU was before I started hosting the watch party at the bar. The other 2 knew, but really weren't Bison football fans. The only reason they knew was because they're originally from ND -- one from Hampden and the other from Hoople (yes THAT Hoople).

The 3 I took to Frisco want to go back every time now. The couple that owns the bar tailgate at Broncos games every home game. They said it doesn't come anywhere near the atmosphere in Frisco...

Currently have the 24th ranked recruiting class according to Rivals
On the strength of one 5 star, also a WR (6’ 4”)
plus three 4 stars and thirteen 3 stars from the high school ranks.

https://arizona.rivals.com/commitments/football/2022

247 is ranking Transfer Portal recruiting classes this year, has Arizona at #2 with their 7 player class behind only Florida State.

https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Football/TransferTeamRankings/

One 4 star recruit and the other 6 were all 3 star recruits.

Still time to get more transfers, or sign more players to make up the deficient, no?

That depends how many other players they signed this year.
Transfers signed still count against the yearly signing cap, think its 25 total allowed per year.

Use google flights to track the flight prices for a while. I generally advise booking at the latest about a month before. You will usually find a price you like before that.

If booking with miles, I can provide different advice if needed.

Dorian Singer - WR at Arizona, started out as a PWO at Arizona but now awarded a scholarship by the Coaches. At one time Singer was at Tartan High School in the Twin Cities and the Bison were an early team to offer him. He transferred to the Phoenix area in search of DI scholarship opportunities. Don’t know why he ended up a PWO, perhaps he waited too long on the FBS offers he had or they were not commitable offers or whatever, but as of now he made it to being a scholarship FBS player.

Careful with those low rows in those sections you will be staring at the backends of the Bison team all game. It's crazy how low those first few rows are.

There are 1st row seats in a few places along the Bison sidelines and they are dirt cheap for that reason.

I secured 8 in the lower rows of a corner section for $35/ea AFTER fees.

Get the cheap tickets now while you can before their fans realize how much NDSU fans are willing to pay for these games.

You will definitely be behind the team and others on the sideline but maybe not as much since section 19 is toward the 20 YD Line and not toward the center of the field.

When I bought tix yesterday I was wondering why the 1st row tickets were SOOOO much cheaper($50 instead of $150) than the ones in the same section 10 rows back and then I noticed some of the listing said obstructed view. I did some digging and found that the first few rows are really low to the field. So we went for corner tickets.

In a lot of stadiums the lower rows of the upper deck at the 50 can be some of the best seats in the house. Its close to where the suites are often located and gives a nice view of the whole field.

Thinking it shouldn't be too hard to find nice seats at a good price, they have 50k capacity there.

I'm pretty sure that the PAC-12 is going to put NDSU on their Do Not Call List in the near future - and going FBS isn't going to make them reconsider when there are all sorts of punching bag G5 teams to choose from.

* Yeah, that's how far out schedules are being made now.

I hear ya, I'm just saying, 6 years is ridiculous. and looking back at 2019 now, I stand with Jeremy Jorgenson as he agreed with me that with Trey Lance & Radunz & Watson & Volson NDSU should've played anyone anywhere in the FBS and make money.

Could of played 8 FBS games that fall and banked $3-5 Million AND it would of been a Novelty and a National Sports Story... ARGH!

You have to careful. If we were FBS Indy and just went and got money games on the road, pretty soon our record would 4-8, and then you're Idaho. Need to be in a conference, and you need to win. What's the motivation to just play FBS games when there's NO Conference Championship, NO Playoff, NO Bowl. Idaho & NMSU all over again.

Go FBS, hell goto CUSA, but you have to be in a conference with a slate of winnable games.

I literally never said that people arent HAPPY playing P5 teams, obviously they are, and rightfully so. We should be excited when our football team gets to play other good teams.

If you read exactly what I said, it was exactly what I meant.

"I was told that I should be more excited for teams like Drake, NC A&T, USD, YSU, ISUb, SDSU, ISUr, WSU, SIU, and UND over pud teams like Arizona??"

That exact argument has been made, to me, on this exact thread. a particular #FCSforever poster told me that this should not be any more, or less exciting than playing any of our normal FCS games. I'm making fun of that person. Not you.

Hey Pissed Off Doom and Gloom Guy - give it a rest. You average about 8 posts a day, which is remarkable to me by itself, but almost all of them are outraged and negative about the programs at NDSU. Your schtick is exhausting to a guy like me that comes to BV to hear about the good things going on in those same programs.

Perhaps we can come to an arrangement where you up your postings to, say, 12 per day but limit them to Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. That would provide for three Chapo-Free days per week and allow some of these threads to have swaths of positivity in them, at least in 1-day chunks sandwiched between the same old vomit being spewed out by you in pretty much every thread. Likewise, it would provide you with 4 days where the nonsense would be welcomed.

Would you be interested in such an arrangement?

If that poster said that then why did you take the liberty to change it to "I should be MORE excited" shouldn't it just say "I should be JUST AS excited"?

If you're going to take people's words literally then you better not change what they said.

If someone is just as excited to see NDSU football no matter who they are playing, let them be ok with that without your never-ending crusade. But what you did here is twist their words to imply they care MORE about FCS teams than Arizona, and that's a flat out misrepresentation by you.

Of course, feel free to correct this by showing me where someone said "I was told that I should be more excited for teams like Drake, NC A&T, USD, YSU, ISUb, SDSU, ISUr, WSU, SIU, and UND over pud teams like Arizona??"

seems to me that the amount is craziness required to say "Im just as excited to play indiana state, as I am to play Arizona" is exactly the same as saying "I'm more excited to play indiana state than Arizona". Both statements should get you locked in an insane asylum for being fully insane. North Dakota State has rescheduled a football game with Oregon and added four other non-conference games to future schedules announced Tuesday, May 25.

NDSU and Oregon were scheduled to meet in the 2020 season opener before it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Bison will now play at Oregon on Sept. 2, 2028, in the first meeting between the two programs.

Ha! I'm not the only one who misspells Tucson!

That makes me feel a bit better... but nothing can really make up for me misspelling Connecticut for most of my adult life. Silent c? Holy Nutmeggers!

I haven't been to New Mexico (trying to do 50 by 50) so I'm thinking of heading out to Albuquerque a day or two early. Maybe rent an RV and make some meth in the dessert, who knows.

I’ve never been to NM either but that’s high desert I think. You might need xtra propane for your cook.

Where did you come up with this? It's Connnecticut. Have you not met a Connecticutter? Or used a scissors?

My brother...NDSU alum, bought a house in the Tucson area about a year ago. He loves it during the winter. He is going to try a summer to see if he can safely sell the Colorado house.

That's pretty cool... the 50 by 50. Not the meth in the desert. Meth isn't cool.

BTW, TIL that many Connnecticuntuckians refer to themselves as Nutmeggers (apparently voluntarily.)

Notre Dame doesn't schedule FCS teams.

I have it on very good authority this is a true statement.

I was stuck on 49 for 12 years and planned to do 50 by 50. COVID squashed that. I did hit #50 while I was still 50 so that counts!

Our plan at the moment is to be in Tucson (spelled correctly) in the winter and our mountain house here in Oregon in the summers. It's really hard to beat Oregon in the summer, particularly in the mountains so that'll likely stay. My wife is wanting warm weather more frequently, however, so I'm going to need to budge at some point. In almost any scenario, Portland proper is probably out of the cards in the 5-10 year range, maybe earlier. Our mountain house is a Vacasa property so I think we'd do that in Tucson (spelled correctly) as well...just so that we don't have to do the basic maintenance/cleaning. Plus we make money on our houses if we take a trip elsewhere.

Soooooo should be working hard to schedule 2025 and 2027 FBS teams

Since Big Ten won't schedule NDSU anymore rules out Wisconsin or Michigan

Who is Big 12 elite team now? anyonnneeeee Would a Kansas State game in 2025 or 2027 work----or is that years playing the Fawkers from up north

Wouldn't mind going to Nashville and killing Vanderbilt and watch Blazek try to prevent their QB from being punished

Does Notre Dame ever have an opening in their schedule----how CRAZY would that be-----go to South Bend---shit they play UNLV and Marshall at home next year---NDSU is a better program than both of those schools

Notre Dame doesn't schedule FCS teams. Only the adults get that paycheck.
