Finally... it's here! Faxes start rolling in early this morning! Will we have any surprise signings?

Interesting coverage this year. Early morning it will be all Twitter for updates. Then there is a Facebook Live video stream at 9:45 am. Then its all Bison1660 radio coverage. It goes all day until 8 pm including hourly updates!

Looks like there will be everything from interviews with recruits, coaches, and other guests all day on Bison1660. Coach Chris Klieman, Nick Goeser, Ross Uglum, and more will be on The Insiders from 11-1.

If your from outside of Fargo... download the Bison 1660 Mobile App or stream online.

Off topic but not really.....

LOCKER ROOM DONATIONS
This class appears to be very impressive and you win with players. If you want to make an impact as a fan, you can donate to the Football locker room fund on GoBison.com so we can WOW recruits for our 2018 class with an impressive locker room facility. It's going to be a pretty kick ass upgrade but it's also expensive as hell. (between a half million to a million) It's all about first impressions and our locker room is pretty lame compared to most teams in our conference who are upping their facilities big time. I know... you don't win recruits with locker rooms BUT when you have a player whose on the fringe.. every little detail counts. It could be the difference between finding our next Carson Wentz, Kyle Emmanual, Billy Turner, Marcus Williams, CJ Smith or losing them to another team in the conference. There is no minimum and you don't have to donate huge amounts, just chip in something so they can get it done even if it's only like $25 bucks. But the more the better!

HOW TO DONATE

1) Go to http://ndsuathleticfund.com
2) Click "Give Now button
3) Choose "Football Locker room fund. "

Hopefully there will be one big suprise that we didn't see coming. You would think the coaches have been trying to get another we the last few days. Think the coaches did well at the safety spot lately with Tutsie and Josh hayes and Dawson webber at cb but could use another cb too.

Welcome to the Florida players!
Was hoping for an extra FLA surprise signing, but Coach P's tweet
includes the phrase "Florida is in" after the 3rd LOI arrived, so I'll
interpret that as a no for any additional Florida players, at least for now.

Question.. realistically how many scholarships are not given out to commits, in case someone flips? Like PGT did to UNI, we had to have extra scholarship money sitting around.

I think we usually have 2-4 scholarships on the shelf every year. Most schools don't use the full 63 available.

Yeah I miscounted the DL. Looks like 4 studs there. I would hope a few of the TE's can play OL with only 2 OL listed. Can never have enough bodies on the lines, injuries are a given there.

So, UNDies, of the players who had head to head NDSU vs UND offers, how many did UND score this year?

So just to compare, one program is able to highlight a half century of success with 13 National Championships, the other has an indoor practice facility to show off.

Congrats to all of the signee's and welcome to the Bison!

I'm a little concerned with so few OL and DL recruits in this class. How many of the TE's project to OL or DL?

Ummm, you think four DL recruits is too few? It was going to be five before Metz decided to concentrate on wrestling.

How many did you expect? They got only one last year, 4 in 2015 but one left in camp, three in 2014. They did get 5 in 2013 but that was highly unusual, 2-3 is the normal range. I am not sure they have ever had the kind of potential coming in that they have this year in any previous years when you consider numbers and quality. I am personally thrilled.

I think your thought process that there needed to be more is a bit unrealistic, especially when you consider all four of these guys are scholarship players. Many of the TE prospects are PWOs so there aren't as many scholies tied up as you think.

Just barely.

Is there going to be any discussion of which sports are getting the axe at UND during this live TV coverage? I might tune in for that.

BTW Midco televising your signing day is just South Dakota's way of trolling UND for their recruiting class.

I admitted I miss counted the DL. Like you stated though things happen and kids don't always stick around for whatever reason it's good to have numbers on the lines IMO.

So, UNDies, of the players who had head to head NDSU vs UND offers, how many did UND score this year?

Not even worth discussing at this point. I really don't have the number or info on who all had offers from both, but clearly NDSU won more battles. I know there have been arguments about whether or not Ott had an offer from NDSU, and frankly I don't care, I'm just glad we have him; looks to be a solid player.

I think the staff know they aren't going to win a lot of battles against NDSU at this point. They are getting closer to where they might be able to entice a few more each year, but its not an even playing field yet. UND has had consistent improvement, but only 1 solid season, and 1 playoff appearance. I'm interested to see if Bubba can now show consistency over the next 2-3 seasons. Then you might see UND winning some more battles. As it is now, UND will certainly offer "some" of the same players, but I think they tend to recruit a different group overall.

Hotchkiss, was a 3* from some and they like him for his Arm and height. Looks to be a pretty solid player, his team had some major HS recruits and the area teams they played also. His WR core I believe 2 signed with SEC/ACC schools but they also played against Elite DB's.

I think he will be good with Hedberg coaching him.

The "we pulled an offer" only applies after we signed players of the same position first. Example: The kid who signed with Navy (Sims) was an offer until we signed Seth Wilson. At that time... no offer is on the table because we only take 1 running back. Then the guy goes out on Twitter and says he's deciding between NDSU, USD, and Navy when he didn't have an offer anymore. Does it only to boost his own stock hoping to get a bigger offer. So if he had chosen USD... they would have claimed to have beaten us when they really didn't. But he chose Navy

So NDSU only had 13 commits, including a kid that is signing with SDSU (or somewhere that isn't NDSU)? Great example on how accurate these sites are!

Why do you F'Hawkers get mad if your recruits didn't get a NDSU offer? You guys are acting as if they lost some type of legitimacy.

I think it's pretty clear UND is not going to be chasing after NDSU recruits.

There's a big difference in the NDSU camps vs UND. NDSU has 2 1/2 day camps where they put the kids to the test. UND's camp is 2 1/2 hours.

Not mad at all. Just getting amusement out of the denial on something I know is accurate. I can ask the exact same to you, why does the possibility that a kid who was committed for months to a school turning down a late NDSU offer get everyone here so worked up?

These sites rely on self-reporting. Schools are not allowed to disclose offers on students per NCAA rules.
Exactly my point. Why is it so hard to believe that a kid who has long been committed and has decided he isn't going to change mind going to bother updating something that doesn't matter to him. That doesn't mean the offers didn't happen, it just means a random website won't be updated.

Where are "we" getting "worked" up? Most of us here weren't aware of your recruits until you guys brought them up as some kind of weird "victories " over NDSU.

All we asked for was proof that NDSU "offered" them since we can't find any.

Tyler Roehl on signing party radio:

TE Austin Avery - can be position flexible, an Andrew Bonnet type

TE Costner Ching - big & strong already, 250 already, Coach Goeser (DT's) will be begging for him on defense

Excited about RB Adam Cofield for next season

Coach Goeser: Was able to fly to Gillette, Wyoming for recruiting, fortunately.

DL Lane Tucker - 6' 3" 255 - will be up to 285 at DT in no time

Coach Klieman: Expects to play a true freshman defensive back next fall, at least on special teams

Disappointed not to be in Frisco, but that allowed for a week of recruiting where the Coaching Staff was able to find Dawson Weber, Joshua Hayes and Michael Tutsie. Had lost some dback recruits. Gave them a month to get to know them and establish a relationship with them. Those 3 were not summer camp kids.

Also think Seth Wilson with be the back we have been wanted for a long time. Similar to Abdullah in both speed, endurance and strength/finishing runs. Man I hope we use him right. I really like him. Actually, I agree. I'm not sure why some are so obsessed with whether or not a guy was recruited by NDSU or not. As long as the kid performs well on the field and buys into the coaches system, then I'm glad we got him (ex. Will Ratelle - Not sure if he had any other offers when he came out of HS).

UND may go after some of the same kids that NDSU goes after, but they won't start winning those recruiting battles (or at least not more of them) until the winning becomes consistent. Granted there are other factors that can come into play as well (Location, Major, Facilities, Playing Time and Depth Chart, General feel for the campus and school). This year was another step forward. But UND needs to emulate the type of winning culture that you see in NDSU, EWU, MT, SHSU or any other team that is strong on an annual basis. Doing that will make recruiting battles more interesting.

Not sure where the insecurity comes from that a late offer didn't sway a long term relationship, it's the same reasoning behind NDSU keeping Grindorff, they put in the time. You have a better chance about being right about someone moving to OL from TE (still not much of a chance) but definitely not Babicz. Kid is a 220 pound wide receiver that they're going to try hang enough weight on to play tight end. They're damn sure not going to make a wide receiver a tackle.) Get real mad about it though.

From what I understand we have a few OLmen waiting in the wings that are pretty athletic to the point where there might be a shuffle of positions.
We are pretty thick at OT and they have to find a way to get a couple of them playing time as they are that good. My bet is Kuenert goes to guard. Volson Center. The other guard and two tackles are gong to be very interesting.

We definitely need to get more athletic. Last year we were way less athletic at LT and RG. Conor and Plankers were bulldozers but they couldn't pull like Jeremy Kelly or Joe Haeg.

I don't think we need to convert any of those TEs though. I think we have to figure out a way to get Zach Johnson and Radunz on the field at the same time.

Personally I'd like to see us move Connor to either RG or RT where he's an upgrade athletically and then slide ZJ or Radunz into his old spot. Also wanna see Cordell Volson win a spot. 6-6 300 lbs and athletic...

CAS, just wondering why are you expecting one of the TE's to be moved? Only to get more athletic? You may well be right, but we also lose 3 TE's to graduation in the next 2 years (plus didn't Lashua announce he is done playing football? Even if not, he would make 4) and last years TE recruits are either gone (Lund) or potentially changing positions (one of the coaches shows mentioned Biegler moving to DT). Ellefson and Anderson are the only other TE's on the roster, so they need to start developing replacements for Illies, Wentz, and Jensen.

Last years OL class has been rumored to be very solid and deep (Radunz, Hecht, Volson have all been mentioned by name as standouts at some point), and all 7 redshirted. The position of greater need is arguably TE (much like bringing in extra DE's after getting poached a bit last year), especially if they plan on using Gindorff and/or Babicz in more of a receiving role.

yeah good coaches recruit players who fit their system. The DE you guys got is a good fit for the 3-4. My favorite example was Jeff Bentrim. Most people don't realize he was an option QB in high school. Obviously it helped as he was one of the best option QBs in college history and played as a freshman

Willis isn't long enough to be an OT is he?

Well, since CAS is taking over at Offensive Coordinator there won't be any more 4th downs so no need to punt. Also, Seth Wilson had a punt in his highlights so there's that. #Firepuntingsavedynasty.

I think he can. I've seen him at 6'5" on Scout and listed at 6'3" by NDSU. I think he can play both. Not a sure fire guard like Nash.

Does Dexter Werner have any eligibility left after basketball this season? Play him at TE or DE.

Why would a wide receiver choose them? They run the triple option.

I don't know where they will play him, but he was also a CB.

Didn't stop Calvin Johnson or Demaryius Thomas from attending Georgia Tech.

If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong because I haven't researched it) Calvin was there and gone before Paul Johnson got there and implemented the triple option. I also think Demaryious redshirted a year under Chan Gailey, which means there was no triple option at GT when he signed.

My bad; for some odd reason, I thought GT had been using the triple-option long before Paul Johnson got there.

Triple-option and spread offense - I can't figure out which scheme I dislike more.

Not sure why you would hate the triple option so much. NDSU won 5 national championships running it.

I won't deny the veer's effectiveness, but it doesn't appeal to me like power football does. I love when a defense's will gets broken by the power-scheme. It's a thing of beauty. The end of the veer at NDSU and the eventual emergence of power football might be the only benefit of a mistimed snowball fight outside of Stockbridge Hall.

In regards to spread football, it might put up pretty numbers, but it takes away the cerebral aspect of a QB and relies too much on having superior WRs compared to DBs.

Teams that run the veer do it because they can't get elite lineman or receivers. We don't have that problem. However I do like elements of the veer and it's super hard to prepare for these days since nobody runs it and you can't emulate it in practice

Was the veer made less effective when they moved the hash marks closer together?

This quote from that article is Golden: The Best Recruiter?

Ryan says: The NDSU fans

It sounds totally cliche, but I've never heard recruits rave about a fan base like they do when they talk about NDSU. Time after time after time, when I'd be talking to recruits that just visited Fargo, the number one thing they'd mention to me was how supportive the fans were of the football team and that made them feel wanted and at home. The fan support absolutely made a difference in this 2017 class.
