Looking forward to next weekend's game - it should be a real good one. Unlike when we were up there 5 years ago, this team is really playing strong.

We don't have a chance. According to Sammy's post game presses ( 20 minute excuse fest). JMU is the best team in the nation and will win the natty. The problem with that, his telling excuse : " the last two physical games took a toll on us". JMU beat up a team that would barely be a .500 team after a season of Missouri valley play. Not taking away from JMU- but can't judge them off that game.

After reading some at the JMU forum it appears that they are confident that their teams speed will be the Bison's undoing AND they have a huge and impressive band. Apparently there are already concerns about how they will fit their massive band in the Fargodome. Current thinking is we will be forced to increase their allotment to accommodate as many members of their band that they wish to bring.

I have no doubt that JMU is a physical team and I couldn't have been more impressed with how they destroyed SHSU. I think by now we should be used to playing physical teams and when I see or hear how physical teams are, here is my question. Are they used to teams that will punch them back? If I am reading things correctly, Sagarin has their SOS at 175 and ours at 100. If they come up here and beat us they certainly will have earned a trip to Frisco.

You know after 22 straight playoff wins...you'd think other fan bases could think of else to say about their team's very little chance to knock off NDSU.

Its a two way street when JMU hasn't seen a team like NDSU either. I mean...it probably is the best team JMU has faced since they got their ass kicked by NDSU in 2011, actually I know it is. Nobody in the CAA is worth a shit and NDSU would beat the Va Tech team they beat a few years ago.

Is it just me but it seems these offenses are very vanilla. Smash mouth football with the only real big play chance from a missed tackle or assignment. I consider us dynamic and explosive. They hope for big plays, we plan big plays.
Wow a 10-0 start only to allow 29 unanswered points. Yes NDSU has gotten some serious home cooking from the officials on a series of terrible pass interference calls, of which we will also suffer from next week just watch.

If I were another team's fan I would want NDSU to lose but would respect and grudgingly like us (because of what we have brought to FCS and it's fun watching teams like this...I love watching Bama even though I frequently cheer for the other team). Also, even if you weren't a dynasty team's fan at the time of their dominance, there is something special about looking back on them and your teams attempts to overthrow them decades later.

The next few days of smack talk is all they have. Even if a school beats the Bison, it means nothing without the championship. What did it do for SDSU, USD, UNI, ISUb, or Montana? It gave them bragging rights for a few weeks. USD and ISUb knew they were in perfect storm games and simply were AGS situations. They were under no illusion they could replicate their success. SDSU, UNI, and Montana found out the playoff Bison were a different beast. Only a couple of schools have ever given the Bison a great playoff scare and they were not only good teams, but good teams who had prior experiences in the dome with most of their roster intact. CCU, SDSU once, ISUr, and GSU played great playoff games. One of them was in our second home. All four of them had prior experience with our program and absolutely knew what 60 minutes of football meant and still lost.

I think JMU has a good team. They took care of the schools in front of them on their schedule like a good program should. I also look at their schedule and don't see any games preparing them for Friday night. Their couple of close games this season were against schools that would have been destroyed by the Bison. Their loss was embarrassing against a program who could have very likely suffered a defeat to the Bison. They will learn on Friday what it is like to face a program with the number one seed with the toughest schedule of anyone on FCS this season, a completely different level of focus reserved for the playoffs, and how the grind of a MVFC season makes the playoffs just seem easier when the Bison get to face schools from other conferences. While JMU spouts off we have never seen anything like them, I know JMU didn't see UNI, SDSU twice, YSU, EWU, Iowa, ISUr, and Chuck So. JMU challenged themselves in the OOC part of their schedule with Morehead State and Central Connecticut State.

There will come a day when our evil empire will fall. I just don't think it will be this week.

Me neither, this ride is too much fun to want it to stop. But yes we are the evil empire. If I were another team's fan I would want NDSU to lose but would respect and grudgingly like us (because of what we have brought to FCS and it's fun watching teams like this...I love watching Bama even though I frequently cheer for the other team). Also, even if you weren't a dynasty team's fan at the time of their dominance, there is something special about looking back on them and your teams attempts to overthrow them decades later.

In sports, there is a need for dynasties. It gives everyone else the absolute goal in which to set their sights. When there is no doubt who the kings are, you are left with no doubt with what you have to do overtake the kingdom. They say the hardest thing in sports to do is stay on top because now you have the field gunning for you. Sure 5 in a row is impressive, but considering every good team in FCS has had 5 years to break down our simple way of doing things and so many schools with as many or more resources, that part is beyond impressive. The Bison way might be simple, but it is not easy or everyone would be doing it. They hate us, because they ain't us. No one, including NDSU, can entirely pinpoint every reason for the many decades of success in football spanning multiple coaches, administrations, and rosters. If we could, we would apply it to all of our programs. Those that know NDSU also are very much aware that once this run ends, we are perfectly willing to begin another. Those that don't know NDSU that well, think this is just recent success.

The stacked the brackets has me thinking. Every year they put us against teams that beat us once in the season or almost beat us. ISUr, Montana, SDSU,UNI, probably more. However I think putting the team up against those teams is what causes the playoff switch that happens to our team. Does revenge start the fire? Freshman especially will be the ones who think JMU is Gods gift to football. The other group you'll find are the ones (like me) who have been JMU fans for years/their whole lives. This group is the lifeblood of JMU and we've been around long enough to know nothing is given for free. We won it all in '04 but since then? Pretty much nothing outside of getting the #1 seed in '08. I have so much respect for NDSU and hope JMU can find a way to emulate your success. That being said, I truly believe this could be the year for us. But like the old adage goes, if you want to be the best you gotta beat the best. Well the Bison have earned that title of "the best". Hope the game is clean and fair. The JMU team has an impressive offense especially at home. In the regular season, the home opponent sagarin average was an embarrassing 213, it is tough to get a good read on their offense because of inflated stats from 4 home games against some extremely poor opponents. JMU is playing very well on offense in the post season the question is, can they continue to produce on the road or will their production more closely resemble their road performance during the season?

Their tougher contests have been on the road with a very comparable sagarin average to NDSU road opponent average 111.2/112.4. JMU has the edge over NDSU on offense scoring about 9 more on road than NDSU but allowed 17 ppg more on defense. JMU has allowed 39,43,and 56 on the road so I can see NDSU putting up some points.

1. How will JMU handle the noise? They played at UNC shouldn't be a huge factor.
2. JMU offense with perfect conditions? NDSU needs to be solid on defense
3. Will NDSU be able to stop the JMU stud RB?
4. PIERRE GEE-TUCKER?
5. Will Shepherd play 4 quarters?
6. Easton Stick is 20-1 as a starter but he can't mismanage the clock like last weekend if he wants to go 21-1.
7. This game will be won in trenches don't bet against the rams.

My money is on the Bison.

Gage is a beast close to your LB that's been out. He will have a shot on Sundays. We also have a beast at DE and our DB's have stepped up and been absolutely lights out since the Richmond game. We had 3 or 4 dropped INT's last week (no excuses get your hands on it and you should have it). They are very fast, very physical, and have great instincts for jumping routes. The last two years our D has been a liability trying to run a 3-4 but it's amazing how with the EXACT same players our D has stepped their game up with just a change in scheme. That should help show the kind of talent we have.

Holy shit! After six years in the playoffs the Bison have seen just about everything: running teams, passing teams, "physical teams", etc. Sorry, JMU, but we have seen teams like you before.

After reading this same narrative for the last few years from every new team that will face the Bison I am convinced that these missives are written by actual current students at the opponent institution. Perhaps even band members (remember Saxy Southerner (aka MilkFart?))

Given this youth and their rather limited world view it is not surprising that in their world its not possible for other fans to have seen something as awesome as their team since they themselves have never seen anything like it. SOS is as foreign a concept to them as the difference between short term and long term capital gains. Just another academic concept and good lord they have their heads too full of those already.

You have to feel a little bad for them since we all know what reality awaits come Friday night. But they are to be excused I think for their youthful exuberance and let them learn the hard way. We have all had to do it at one time or another in our lives.

It's amazing to me how that man who claims he is a defensive coach can keep getting DC and HC jobs while producing horrendous defenses. Gage is a beast close to your LB that's been out. He will have a shot on Sundays. We also have a beast at DE and our DB's have stepped up and been absolutely lights out since the Richmond game. We had 3 or 4 dropped INT's last week (no excuses get your hands on it and you should have it). They are very fast, very physical, and have great instincts for jumping routes. The last two years our D has been a liability trying to run a 3-4 but it's amazing how with the EXACT same players our D has stepped their game up with just a change in scheme. That should help show the kind of talent we have.

SOS is also the key to interpreting their gaudy offensive numbers. I posted this earlier, but they played 7 games against teams outside the top 30 FCS according to Sagarin and rushed for 358/game. Games against UNC, Villanova, Richmond, and twice vs UNH, they averaged 183 rushing. How many rushing yards would we average if Indiana State was our 6th toughest game? Plus, Delaware was the best rushing offense they faced all year, and the Hens ran for 300+.

We'll see if JMU can defend the power running game of the Bison. Power west-coast system is a lot different than most teams spread/read option offenses.

When we played UNC, I don't think we were firing on all cylinders. We had a new coaching staff and a mostly inexperienced QB and had only played two cupcakes, so we were not battle-tested. Over the course of the season, though, things started to come together. The almost-choke job at UNH (which I saw in person) reinforced the idea of playing strong for all 4 quarters. Our conference away games were against the #2, #3, #4, and #5 teams - which we won. This team has been getting stronger as the season has gone on - as evidenced by the demolitions of UNH and SHSU over the last 2 weeks. Coach will have the team focused coming into this game. The volume in the dome will certainly be load, but the venue and crowd size are smaller than our stadium, so it shouldn't be a big factor.

This team is miles better than our 2011 team (which was kind of a mess) and our best team since 2008.

19,000 indoors can be louder than 70,000 outdoors. I have been very unimpressed with the noise level from up top the last 2 playoff games. It's not as fun to keep shouting when everyone else is just sitting there.

Not much on WatchESPN for JMU games, just New Hampshire and SHSU playoff games. The QB looks awesome - RB looks awesome - defense looks awesome. Should be a whale of a game.

Only ominous thing for JMU is that since that 2011 game, no CAA team has kept it closer than Richmond's 26-point loss last year - and that game wasn't as close as the score indicated.

On the other hand, this is probably the most beat up a Bison team has been since the championship run started.
