Ninety nine teams from 65 schools could begin losing scholarships next fall for failing to meet the NCAA academic standards. Football teams had the worst overall results.

And wouldn't you know, Sacramento State had the most teams affected (six) and could lose up to 5 athletes and 2.3 scholarships.

Cal Poly loses 2 Men's BBall scholarships, Sac State loses 1. Temple loses 9 (Yeah, NINE) FB scholarships.

Here's NDSU's APR report. President Chapman asked the NCAA to start running our report early to help facilitate the transition to DI. When NDSU finishes its transition, these same rules will apply to our institution.

Academics don't exactly rate highly for a lot of California athletes. *High school athletes, as I've written before, "live" one sport 12 months out of the year...and in the case of basketball, the varsity kids view their school team as a "downer" compared to their travel team that plays during the same season. *That's right...they play 4 games a week during the season. *Whew

This comes as no surprise to me. *Things are so out of balance that it's really sickening.

I could be wrong about this...but I believe that California is the only state in the union that allows people to attend their community colleges without a high school degree. *Athletes come from all over the country to play JUCO ball and attempt to make themselves eligible for a university. * *

We have some amazing JUCO teams. * ;)

So the Sac. State situation doesn't surprise me at all.

I don't know what these numbers show. Are they saying NDSU is doing well or do they need to improve?

Here's an APR primer. Look for the FAQ at the end of the article.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/other/2006-03-01-ncaa-apr-report_x.htm#questions

NDSU is doing okay at this point. Baseball is below the 925 mark, so that needs to improve before the transition is over.

NCAA is looking to make some adjustments for baseball...such as tightening up transfer rules, and making adjustments for kids that leave early because of getting drafted. FYI: DI baseball players can transfer to another DI school and play immediately (don't have to sit out a year like football or basketball).

What a joke.

99 team's were penalized, but only 1 of those team's was an actual basketball or football powerhouse?

whatever.

The big schools employ so many full-time tutors to keep their student-athletes on track. The smaller schools don't have such resources which increases their chance to get penalized. Really puts a premium on recruiting quality student-athletes to NDSU.
