Alright:

1) Easton Stick. Attaboy.
2) Defense wins championships. Defense beats Iowa. Give the game ball to the front seven.
3) Give another game ball to our OL. We ran it down their throats.
4) That 2pt call was the right call. I ripped it on the GDT but in hindsight it just made Iowa try to run clock.
5) How many game balls can I give? Give another to Cam. Clutch kick young man. When it veered toward the upright it took ten years off my life.
6) Polasek's play calling is still concerning at times. The 2pt call was bad. Not pounding after a 40 yard King run was worse. But hey I guess we keep people guessing.
7) Secondary got tore up a bit again when the pressure didn't get to Beathard but it's a b10 team with b10 talent.
8) We're the new Boise State. I expect a lot more national attention and people looking at us as the small state underdogs.
9) My oh my I miss Scotty.

From USA Today

NDSU topples No. 11 Iowa

http://dmreg.co/2cuQH6h

IOWA CITY, Ia. -- North Dakota State got a 37-yard field goal from Cam Pedersen as time expired Saturday to defeat Iowa 23-21 at Kinnick Stadium. It was the sixth consecutive time that the Bison, an FCS powerhouse, have defeated an FBS foe, but never one ranked as highly as No. 11 Iowa. And NDSU earned it,

You make it, it puts all the pressure on Iowa to move the ball to score. You miss it, it still puts all the pressure on Iowa to get a first down to ice the game. The way it went, Iowa mishandled the pressure.

I'm surprised, but not shocked. That 4th quarter drive of 8:39 was Jensen-esque! A week off to heal and we still have things to shore up. Our D-secondary needs to fine tune a few things although I am very confident that they will produce come Valley and playoff time. What a great win. This does pick up the pace on the Klieman-watch...unless we go .500 in conference play and this team falls apart, I see him getting some nice opportunities at the end of the season. We just need to enjoy it!

I loved the going for two. I wasn't even all that bothered by the play call, trying to get the ball to RJ on the fade. The only thing I didn't like about it was the play design. There was no play fake so if the fade gets shut down, there is no way to sneak anyone out on the back side because nothing was done to hold the linebackers in..

Going for two was good. I believe the math tells you to go for it.With 3:41 left I would think it would be hard to calculate all the different variables that could still occur. I've always thought of the "going for two" play as more of a "do or die" play, where you do it when there are just seconds left on the clock. But that's just my preconceived notion of it.

That was a great chess-match call by Klieman. Forced Iowa into conservative-mode and give the Bison Defense a chance to get the ball back.

Positives from the game...
The lines looked great, both offense and defense..
For as much grief as I gave the defensive gameplan last week I give just as many kudos this week. After a shaky start they really kicked it up with some great timely pressure
Think Coach P did a good job, especially at the end, loved watching them pound the ball down their throats.
Never thought the conservative Klineman would go for two and I loved it.
Good job on kick coverage. Iowa has a pretty dangerous return man and he was pretty much a non-factor
Cam with a great clutch kick

Some negatives..
Got to do something about the punt game. Great first punt, but they got to get more than 35 yrds a punt.
Time management still a bit shaky. Could have easily ran one more play at the end to get a little shorter FG, or the way the backs were playing break one for a TD.
Still some head scratching play calls on offense but I could just be too picky

I about melted down at the end. Could you imagine if we would have ran out of time there. Also, why did we only throw it to the te in the flat twice. We ran it twice for 27 and 14 yds. Those are easy completions for Easton and don't get his head knocked off.

Playing for two was in hindsight genius. One if we get it we have the lead, two they wasted a timeout, they we don't get it and now they are playing with a lead and the play calling gets to be more conservative. Three we stop them and get the ball back and run it down their throats! Nice when it works

The only series I didn't like in the second half was after the big run by Fraizer it was three straight passes and a 50 yd FG try.

Again we were ripping them for some nice running yards in the second half and have them on their heels and we call some crazy play that gets stuffed and we lose the momentum. Drives me crazy. Good thing we didnt need the punter to turn the field over. The kid really needs to improve. Too many low snaps on the ep and field goal. Our center need to keep the ball down while in the shot gun. We should have put some points on the board that first drive. Breakdowns in the d-secondary. Cant believe they didnt try to exploit that more. This is all very key stuff. With out many of those mistakes we would have put more points on the board. Going for two?????????????????????????????????????
I think our conditioning took over at the end. The running game really started to open up. Plus our runners sat back on occasion and found some nice running lanes that developed. We pressured their QB at the right moments. Just have to clean up the breakdown in coverages. Cam stepped up again. Couldnt be more happy for him. O-line did a nice job today.
Great win. Way to go Bison.

Credit this win to the coaches and players. Perfect game plan. Near perfect execution. Game ball to the Online but a close second to the front 7. I'm starting to think we may have looked past our first 2 opponent's. What an unbelievable win!

Was it the conditioning that took over or that ndsu was doing what they are built to do? Seemed like they were running well throughout the game when they were not being cute.

Bison football wins when the Bison play their game: stout D, emphasis on power run, and just enough play action to mix it up. Proven formula.

Didn't realize how close that kick was. From our seats it looked like it was right down the middle.

Awesome game.

First half felt like we were happy to be there and not going for the win, but the cojones our coaching staff showed on that long drive was awesome.

Going for 2 was the absolute right call, it was no lose, tie game was worst possible outcome there.

The FCS FCS FCS chant from our section at the end was pretty cool, but not as fun as seeing how mad all the Iowa fans in the first sideline section got at us for cheering all day long. They started trying to yell at us instead of paying attention to the game in the 3rd.

Couldn't believe how quiet or was when we were on offense, for awhile it felt like the dome.

Iowa fans are claiming the refs handed us the game. I think how one judges the job of the refs is what school one is cheering for. I thought Iowa got away with a lot. So I rack this one up as refs letting guys play football and left the flags alone unless things were egregiously effecting the play. You know we could complain RJ was mauled on the 2 point conversion attempt. Of course some Hawkeye fans would say we wouldn't have been in that situation if it wasn't for a multitude of other non-called penalties helping us get there. I, for one, am glad the refs didn't play a hand in the outcome.

My problem with calls like that are when announcers defend the flag by saying the QB was clearly going out of bounds. Well, I don't want our defenders trying to figure out someone's intent, I want them to make sure the QB doesn't cut back and run for 30 yards downfield. The ref throws the flag based on also interpreting a runner's intent. Unless they are sliding or actually out of bounds, they are not out of bounds and they are in the field of play possibly attempting to gain more yards. Would we get a break if MJ pulled up and the QB cuts back? Maybe that should be a rule. If a ball carrier is within 1 yard of the sideline and their body is not squared up to downfield, the defender can pull up and the play is dead.

As it sits now the runner gets all the benefit...Refs call that NON penalty 10 out of 10 times.

the QB was in bounds when he got hit. They even talked about it on 1660...Dudz said how he was still in, but that the QB as a runner is going to get that call every time.

That was a great chess-match call by Klieman. Forced Iowa into conservative-mode and give the Bison Defense a chance to get the ball back.

Starting to miss Klieman already. If NDSU wins another Championship, he's destined for a big school job, probably P5.

If I am Iowa I don't let CK get back on the plane. Tell GT to offer him whatever he wants to be the DC and associate head coach - or head coach and make their current head coach the associate. Maybe GB and GT at Iowa did us a favor extending their current head coach.

The refs were consistent. They let then play. On the 2 point conversion they could have called like 3 penalties. And on the called back ling run... That would have been a 3 yard gain without the hold

I loved the going for two. I wasn't even all that bothered by the play call, trying to get the ball to RJ on the fade. The only thing I didn't like about it was the play design. There was no play fake so if the fade gets shut down, there is no way to sneak anyone out on the back side because nothing was done to hold the linebackers in..

but why would you attack their best defensive player, the 2015 Jim Thorpe award winner. That part of the play made no sense.

Yes, I thought it was consistent. It looked like a lot of big 10 games where the refs let the players play football and only get involved if something would seriously alter the outcome of a play.

Last week had the feel of every ticky-tack foul was called (and some made up apparently). This week felt like let the young men play football.

I wanted a naked bootleg left with a hard fake pitch out to the right and a receiver mirroring Stick in the end zone. The D was tired, an earlier pitch out gained a bunch of yards, and Stick would have the option to run or throw.

I am very impressed Stick didn't try to force the ball into RJ. Their best guy vs. our best guy. Their's won on that play.

I actually disagree. If we convert, we are ahead and Iowa has to get a FG. If we don't convert, Iowa has the lead and would play like they had it which they did. They gave us the ball with PLENTY of time left. I knew as soon as we got the ball back we were going to win.

If I may add to this, these are my observations

Positives.
1) Austin playing Center seemed to have revived our running game.
2) Our run defense was outstanding , we shutdown their star RBs which no BIG 10 team was able to do besides Ohio.
3) Our RBs were outstanding today.

Negatives.
1) Our punter sucks, there is no way to sugar coat this.
2) Snapping the ball for field goal did not look sharp and caused Cam Peterson to miss a field goal attempt.
3) Our DBs ball tracking skills worries me.
4) Easton aka Captain Sully too slow scanning the field and finding open receivers. He missed open receivers down field on more than 2 occasions
5) High snaps from Austin Kunert.

Going for 1 gets us the worst of 3 possible outcomes. Get it and we're up 1 and they have to throw so we can pin the ears back and go after them. Miss it they're going to go ultra conservative try to burn clock but give us the ball back. Tie the game, they do anything they want for 3 minutes and either kick the game winner themselves or we go to OT. Sure there is a chance we kick it and get the ball again with nothing bad happening, but not a great one.

With 3:41 left I would think it would be hard to calculate all the different variables that could still occur. I've always thought of the "going for two" play as more of a "do or die" play, where you do it when there are just seconds left on the clock. But that's just my preconceived notion of it.

It made sense mathematically, and NDSU had complete ownership of the line of scrimmage. Easy decision when you consider the momentum in play at the time. Correct call.

1. We've ben spoiled with great punters, yes our punting game isn't up to recent standards, but I think it will improve.
2. Game winning field goal = snap, spot, kick....good!!! enough said.
3. Young dbs, we'll improve, season is young. Still good enough to be 3-0!
4. Jeez, lay off on the guy, he's only undefeated as a starter and clutch in 4th quarter drives this year, oh yeah and he's just a sophomore.
5. Must not have got the memo that this was his first start of the year. Kunert is a stud.

Just when you think NDSU cant do anything more to shock and amaze. This is one of the greatest upsets in college football history. Total domination in the second half and especially the fourth quarter by both o and d lines. Never been more proud.

You flipped on the bat signal,

so here I am.

I did not think we WOULD lose this game. I didn't really believe we could lose this game. I did talk myself into believing that NDSU could compete with us, but I figured CJB and the boys would eventually remember who they are and we would win by at least 10 or so points.

But, NDSU is pretty much the equivalent, right now, of a middle-of-FBS team. They've shown they can compete with (and maybe beat) anyone that gets put on their schedule. I suspect there are only 10 or 15 teams in all of FBS that would be truly safe from a possible loss (in a one-off) to them. That list includes Alabama, Ohio St, maybe Clemson, maybe Stanford, and a few others. That list obviously does not include Iowa.

Honestly, the Iowa team we saw today will be fortunate to get to 8 or 9 wins. It could be a .500 team. We can not sleep-walk through entire halves of games, or forget how to tackle (or even gang-tackle), or drop a bunch of passes, or have RBs stop hitting holes, or play with no enthusiasm. If we play like that, we could easily be beaten by Michigan, Wisky, Nebby, Minny, PSU. Maybe even Illinois, or Rutgers, or the preppy jerks who kidnapped jNW's football team and are now wearing their uniforms. We might even lose to Purdue (well, no, even if our entire team caught Mucormycosis, we won't lose to Purdue).

We all wanted to believe that Iowa was, last year, beginning a run that would last several seasons and would probably leave Beathard, King, Vandeberg, Jaleel J, and a few other guys to be known in Hawkeye Lore as "that class that really started the best of times." Maybe that is still barely alive, maybe not.

But, NDSU actually has their version of that, right now. They have guys that have been singing "all I do is win, win, win no matter what" and backing it up for 3 or 4 years. They are a better program that UNI, and UNI has scared Iowa a couple times.

These Bison Bros, and their fans, set up one game almost every year WITH THE EXPLICIT INTENT OF SHOWING THE FOOTBALL WORLD THAT NOBODY SHOULD FUCK WITH THEM.

And Kansas St, Minnesota, Colorado St, Iowa St, Kansas, and now Iowa have all had to live with the disappointment of using only a rifle (instead of the automatic repeating shotgun that is required) against this mutated FCS team, and having it's bloody carcass stand up, and continue to lunge toward us to try to bite our necks and other areas that contain veins. Oregon and Colorado are, in the next few years, going to get their chance to learn from all of this, or suffer a similar fate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dakota_State_Bison_football#Record_against_F BS_competition

And so, no, I am not happy. But, if you are a Hawkeye fan that is not delusional or entitled (and that Rose Bowl should have ensured that we did not feel entitled), you knew that terrific seasons should not be EXPECTED. They are earned. Not by us, but by the labors, performance, and sometimes sacrifice of health of guys between the ages of 18 and 23. That's the same for all but 5 programs in FBS. You expect, you relax, you die. And then your fans run to an internet comment board and look for solace, or a scapegoat, or sick/dark/inappropriate humor. If that fan is a dick-head, he/she goes on twitter and tries to pick a fight with one of the players.

Strangely enough, Iowa probably has enough talent to go win every other game this year (I'm not going to predict a conference title game, or a bowl or playoff game). But it all starts with Sunday's film study, Monday morning's weight-lifting, and Monday's practice.

And it continues with the first conference game, which just happens to be our first chance to show Rutgers and their fans what some pissed-off, corn-fed, battle-tested dudes from flyover country can do once they get off the 3-hour plane ride from the CID airport to the excellent efficiency of EWR.

I never wanted to Fire Ferentz / Fire Barta.

I loved the reffing on this game minus the hit out of bounds call. Replay clearly showed him in bounds. Defender's job is to prevent them from getting yardage so even if he was going out of bounds you force him out sooner. Proof of double standard, the next series Bruce Anderson had a carry were he was also "clearly" going out of bounds and Iowa player hit him a half second before going out and nary a comment. Also seems odd it was not the ref that was right there didn't throw a flag it was the guy down field.

Anyways our run game was great in the 2nd half. Hopefully Polasek finally seeing the light a bit.

The 2 point call was absolutely right, we had been rolling them that whole drive. When I was going through the options and coming up with reasons to my wife, it really made a lot of sense to me. The worse case scenario was they would get some decent yardage and get to field goal range, then kick a field goal as time expired. But I think they went all conservative and thought NDSU wouldn't be able to make enough quick strikes to get into range.

Loved watching this game, hoping to keep it close was a reasonable expectation, winning was gravy!

I wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't happen or if it does. However if it does happen I hope it's not as awkward as before and I hope like hell we just promote from within. It worked before. It's all about the system. I'm sure Polasek, Hedberg, Entz, Riley, Roehl, Austin, Cain, or Goeser would be interested in the head coaching job that pays a nice chunk of change. Could probably poach some former Bison assistants in Wyoming.

But it's lame to talk about right now because it's just a reaction because Bohl left after we beat KState. But given Bohls shitty results... It kind of hurts the perception of hiring an Ndsu coach. We just need to worry about winning and keep paying the coaches more.

This isn't even close to being true.

The Bison OL and DL dominated Iowa, especially in the 2nd half.

Being there, there is no way the Bison were "laying down"......freakin stupid statement.

Really impressed and happy with Jeff Culhane. Love his excitement and enthusiasm for a positive Bison play...AND his disdain and voice dejection for the opponents' positives. One thing I'd like to see him add to his repertoire (love the Horns up, Hawkeyes down etc) is adding 'Bison' or 'NDSU' after 'Touchdown' when we score. And yes, I realize Scotty said Bison.

My suspicion is a bit of the hit out of bounds penalty was how he was hit. If MJ would have pushed him out instead of laying a pretty good lick on him I wonder if there would have been a penalty. Just speculation on my part... In any case good game for NDSU cleaning up penalties as I believe that was the only one.

This post from that thread is hilarious.....

"We play South Dakota St in a few years who is top 10. We should be scheduling S Dakota or N Dakota who are terrible. I swear JP or whoever schedules games looks at the FCS poll and picks from the top 10 only. I just want a few wins no matter who they are against."

Someone on the roster has to be able to catch a long snap and kick a football farther than 32 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Loved going for two, did not love the play call.

Question: considering the opponent, did we just witness the best rushing performance and best rushing defense performance in the D1 era? I say yes. O-line looked completely different from the first two weeks. Front seven was absolutely incredible.

Some of the big plays that kept the bison in it. There may be more but these stand out for me.

1. MJ's pic 6. Nice early FY to Iowa.
2. Menard's sack.
3. Stick's up the gut run in the 2nd half
3. Robbie's QB sack
4. Cam's FG to win the game

Just got done watching the replay, wow, I love when NDSU shortens the game by just wearing the clock out. It really just puts so much pressure on the other team to almost be perfect. I would have watched it live but the iPhone 7 had to launch this weekend and my schedule was changed. 😒

Weird how it was us that had to be almost perfect and not our opponent.

While Kinnick is "historic" it's certainly boring. The PA announcer has no excitement and their opening might have been as ham-handed as JSU's in the National Championship game. NDSU's entrance had more electricity.
70,000 people sure can sound quiet
I-80 in Iowa needs to stop calling itself an interstate. I've never seen such a shitty road try to handle so much traffic. It's like Highway 10 back in the 80's trying to get all that lakes traffic back on a Sunday.
I was unaware that roaming was still a thing. I was roaming the entire time I was there with the exception of when I passed through Des Moines. I have T-mobile but plenty of my ATT and Verizon friends were having problems too.
It felt like there were a LOT more than 10k there after the Iowegians cleared out at the end of the game.
The mass exodus down the middle of Melrose back to the parking lot might have been one of the most epic things I have ever seen in my life.

Good to see some friends and what an amazing weekend. Too bad it had to happen in a 3rd world state.

Nice to see us go back to what has got us here. Nothing too cute, run the ball HARD and tackle with passion. Simple formula.

Safeties need to improve.

Jet sweep: If we ar going to keep running it, Shepard needs to just take what is there (3-4 yards) and not try to make big play. Those will come only occasionally by missed tackle or perfectly timed blocks.

RJ was mauled by King from the very beginning of play. Almost tore his jersey off (watch entire play and you'll see it just as RJ was about to make his outside move).

Easton was hit intention under chin with crown of helmet at least twice.

Both teams were given a lot of leeway on pass inter fence calls

Punting ......

Nice game yesterday. Your defense wore into them in the 2nd half. That was a big 3 and out/field goal late. See you in Cedar Falls.

Agree! Coach K was the epitome of class and let the results speak for themselves. He represents us well.

How many times was this said on ESPN during the game. "Connor Wentz cousin of Carson Wentz."

Even sadder was Iowa fans leaving after the 2-point try looking like their "win" was a loss.😀

Someone said that we now OWN the state of Iowa. I'm not sure it'll be worth the property taxes, but I suppose we could park our vehicles there.

Right now had recruit Byrce Torneden not flipped to KU, he would have at least one more FBS win than he currently has.
