I think UM's winning percentage is pretty much the if they go for 1 or 2. Lets assume OSU scores 20% of the time and both teams get 2 point conversions 50% of the time.

Go for 1 lead by 8. OSU scores a TD 20% of the time, they get the conversion 50% of the time, and win in OT 50% of the time. OSU's winning percentage is (0.2)(0.5)(0.5)=5%

Go for 2 and get it. UM wins 100% of the time.
Got for 2 and fail. OSU socres 20% of the time, make the PAT, and win 50% in OT. So even if they fail they still win 10% of the time, but if count in the 50% of the time they get it, it's half of the 10% or 5%.

If UM's offense is better than OSU's it probably makes sense.

Now why would you go trying to bring math into football decisions?

Its actually simple. You make them go for two instead of the chip shot.

Translation. Don't think about it and make the traditional decision rather than running the numbers and making the decision that is best for your chances of winning the game.

I don't know how accurate nastar's numbers are, but that is the type of process that needs to be done more often and applied to 2pt conversions, on side kicks, fg's and most of all the dreaded voluntary 4th down turnover.

Nasty hit on Torii Hunter Jr. No flag. Sure looked helmet to helmet, but replay decided not to overrule. Sure looked like a concussion from the way his legs were wobbling as they helped him to his feet. That, and the way his head snapped to the side during the hit, and the small amount of blood on his head. (at least it looked like blood to me; could have been sweat)

The defender didn't lead with his head, or even his shoulder. The main point of contact was to the chest. The defense needs to be able to make a play as well. It's unfortunate, what happened as a result of the play, but it wasn't targeting.

Example:

FSU drive

2. 2&8 - pass for 9 yards
3. 1&10 - fumbled handoff - recovered for 10 yard loss
4. 2&20 - ineligible receiver - 5 yard penalty
5. 2&25 - pass for 18 yards
6. 3&7 - false start - 5 yard penalty
7. 3&12 - offsides - 5 yard penalty
8. 3&7 - defensive pass interference - 15 yard penalty
9. 1&10 - defensive hands to face - 15 yard penalty
10. 1&10 - pass for 25 yards - unforced fumble out of bounds at the 3
11. 1&G - low snap - loss of 1 yard
12. 2&G - dropped pass in endzone
13. 3&G - missed pass in endzone
14. 4&G - field goal
