Long time Bison fan DJ Guerrero (80) passed away Friday July 29th. A native of Sacramento CA, DJ moved to Fargo after serving in the Marines in the Vietnam war. You would see him at just about every Bison event that he was healthy enough to be able to attend. RIP my friend!

DJ was also HUGE in Special Olympics North Dakota. He was generous with his time, talent, and money. He will be missed dearly, as Road stated RIP "our" friend, as DJ was a friend, mentor, and inspiration to many people.

Oh my, I saw the obituary in the paper and didn't realize it was DJ until I saw this thread. He was one of my favorite people to talk about the Bison with, as he always had a great story to share of his many adventures following them. I work for the Fargo VA so I would see him often, and also saw him at several sporting events in the area as well. I remember bumping into him at the FargoDome for the state highschool wrestling tournament and he was backstage printing off updates for the next days events. He told me that he didn't even watch any of the matches, he just volunteered his time to help with the stats (which were his passion from what I understand). What a great man, with a smile on his face all the time! RIP DJ!

DJ also had his share of

DJ was also the recipient of more than one "Purple Heart" [I think I heard 3 or 4] awarded for wounds suffered in Vietnam.
DJ was a real trooper!. God bless him.

5 purple hearts. Served in both Korea and 4 tours in Vietnam. The shrapnel in his body that they couldn't clean up back in the day would eventually work its way out of his body through his skin. His life story is pretty amazing and he kept journals since 1969. There is hope they will see the light of day sometime because there are a lot of stories of heartbreak and victories.

I spent a great amount of time with DJ, both as a student-athlete and as an employee of USA Wrestling. My favorite story of his was the one involving the stuffed alligator he kept with him in a hotel room - scared the living crap out of the maid.
