Ugh, I just want Scotty back. He wasn't just the voice of the Bison to many of us that don't live in/near Fargo. He connected us back to our home. I can't imagine ANYONE topping what he did, at least from my current state of mind. Probably one of the best aspects of watching all of this draft and post-draft coverage has been all of the extra "My-Oh-My"'s that I've been able to listen to as they pull CW clips from the past into their dialog.

Here was the job posting.

Radio FM Media and NDSU are conducting a nationwide search for the next radio voice of the Bison. NDSU is the 5-time defending FCS Football National Champions, has a championship level basketball program, which will open a brand new facility next season, and a tradition of athletics that is first class.

The minimum experience requirements include, 3 years of play by play experience, 1 year of sports talk experience, and a degree in broadcast journalism or related field. Broadcast preparation skills must also be a proven strength.

North Dakota State University is a student-focused, land-grant, research university located in Fargo, N.D., with an enrollment of more than 14,500. NDSU is a member of The Summit League and Missouri Valley Football Conference with an affiliate membership in the Big 12 Conference for wrestling.

Please indicate in your cover letter you learned of this opportunity through Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. Send demo, resume and broadcast preparation examples to:

I suspect that most folks are aware of this, but I may be biased by living in Seattle. The "my oh my" line is not Scotty's. Rather, he "borrowed" it from the famed long time play-by-play sportscaster for the Seattle Mariners, Dave Niehaus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Niehaus). I assume Scotty borrowed the phrase in tribute to Dave's greatness, and I'm sure Scotty is not the only one who has. Don't get me wrong... I always loved when I heard Scotty say it, but I think it's worth being aware of the origins. Even Dave reportedly got the inspiration for the line from a fellow sportscaster.

Seems like Jeff is a great fit, and I wish him well. Whether he chooses to carry on the tradition of "my oh my" or start his own catch phrases makes no difference to me as long as he is able to get fans excited about Bison sports!

My thoughts on "my oh my" were that I loved it the first time I heard him say it. But when I realized how often he said it it became a bit annoying. Eventually though it grew on me to where it just seemed natural.

I wouldn't be offended if Jeff started using it. But I'm also fine if he doesn't.

http://thebiglead.com/2016/04/15/uw-milwaukee-radio-announcer-quits-trashes-school-administrators-on-instagram/

To quote Groucho Marx "Hello, I must be going!" Before the decision is made for me, I am officially announcing my retirement as the voice of Milwaukee Panthers Men's basketball. I would say it's taking the last life boat off the Titanic, but that would be unfair to the crew of the Titanic. Never have so many competant, talented people been run off by such a talentless group of entitled beaurocrats. No matter how much the coaches, players, and support staff care, they can't overcome incompetent administrators. UWM leads the world in incompetent administrators. I criticize awful athletic directors like Koonce, Costello, Geiger, and Braun. It's not their fault. Hell, if they elected me President I'ld take the job. If I suck at it, it's not my fault. I'm not qualified to be President. Should Amanda Braun turn down an AD job just because she's horribly under qualified? Hell no. She's a bad AD, and a deplorable human being, but those are the cards she's been dealt. Those in charge of the UW System have failed to hire effective administrators. Failed. F F F F! It has been my pleasure to work with the wonderful players and coaches for 17 seasons. The players, coaches, parents and the fans have been like my family. I will miss Panther hoops the rest of my life. Best of luck to my friends that are still imprisoned at UWM Athletics. Fight on, brothers (and sisters.) Keep your heads low and make us proud. Finally, best of luck to LaVall Jordan, his staff, and the players. As so often happens in the NCAA, it's not your fault. Win and get out quick, because long term is fatal at UWM Athletics. Panther Nation, it has been my pleasure.Cheers!

IMO it might be prudent when following a legend with a signature catch phrase like Scotty,....to NOT have one. Might seem forced and would always get compared to Scotty. Hes got to carve his own path and make it his own. I know most sportscasters have them, but in this case I think it might be a good way to go.

Edit...on the other hand he might already have a catch phrase too. If he does Im guessing he will most likely stick with it.

That would be a great catch phrase. I prefer "Slap my ass and call me Sally!" or "Dress me up and call me Shirley!"

Hammersmith, can you translate the humor for a backwoods Sioux Falls person about KVLY? That went over my head, but I am pretty dumb since I live in SD.
The last few several days on valley news live, aka kvly, the lead story on every news cast was a reporter in a random park in town checking to see if soccer goal posts were staked to the ground..and if they weren't there was a possibility that it could fall and crush your kid. It was a ridiculous story that was pounded into those of us who watched nightly.

Vnl is a train wreck, but i can't just look away. Don't know what the slimy Ike dig meant but I'm sure he's the producer and him and Mike don't like one another

Yeah, that was particularly the one that caught my eye. Surprised he'd go that frontal in a blog post, but he is McFeely.

You answered something, but it certainly wasn't the right answer. You bash them but then can't turn the channel?

BREAKING: Ladies and gentlemen, I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying message...

If you hate something like VNL, turn that shit off and it might actually go away. If you keep watching it, you have nothing but yourself to blame. And we wonder why the media is the way it is today. Christ.

He probably was also bashing them for their latest hot news that we get TB from refugees.
It's ratings time. Although the medical professionals are trying to say that this is not true, they are sticking to the story.
I am sorry they do Bison games

I worked at the U of mo hospital and as so often happens, I converted and now will always test positive for TB. You can't send me back to whence I came as I am there now!

Any chance we can also get a Spanish speaking play by play guy? I'd love hearing a call, "El TOUCDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWN!!!!"

Edward James Olmos. He can cast in Spanglish.

I would have been a fan of hiring the voice actor for Bird Person from Rick and Morty. Bird Person (in character) would have been a great play by play caster.

I believe that would be Dan Harmon. Co-creator of Rick and Morty and creator of Community

I really like this guy so far.

The only criticism I have is that he seems to use vocal pauses more than he needs to. Ah and uh mostly. Not too many ums.

Listened to his highlights and he did a great job. Sadly, after most of his calls I kept thinking I was going to hear a "my oh my". It's going to take a while to get used to not expecting that.

Due to it being in the middle of harvest, I listened to last nights game on the radio. Having listened to Scotty for so many years I was a little apprehensive to hear the play by play without him handling the call, but to me it seemed like a pretty smooth transition to a new guy from one who had become a legend. I certainly also missed the my oh my a time or two and the easy way Scotty meshed with Phil, but I'm sure that will come with a few broadcasts together. Not really something that can be practiced I imagine. I thought it was very good and will likely only get better as he becomes more and more familiar with the team. I also find his voice easy to listen to which is always a bonus.

Jeff did good. Certainly can be improved but solid for his first outing. The only thing missing is some sort of, not necessarily a catch phrase but something to put an end to a big play. Seemed incomplete. Just something at the end... A wow, an are you kidding me, a put a dress on me and call me Shirly, a holy fuck... a something!

Jeff did very well. A few times he got a little excited and seemed to talk a little too fast. He called Charleston Southern Charlton Southern a few times. I really liked at the end of the broadcast when he said "Horns Up, Charleston Southern, Down"

At least that's still close to the school's name. Unlike Mack Brown who started calling them Georgia Southern in the middle of the game.

Did ESPN hire KVLY's director for their production? Lots of crazy shots where cameras were moving all over and zooming in and out between plays. :)

Have listened to bits and pieces of a couple of Grand Forks Community College games on the radio this fall hoping that my second favorite team was beating them. Jack Michaels is nearly unlistenable. The gap between Jeff and him is even wider than the one between the football teams.

I listened to the end of the UND/Weber State game and so much this! I think Jack does a good job with baseball, but not a fan of his interviewing style and him doing football everything seems so... forced. So much the opposite of Scotty Miller where everything seemed so authentic.
