I wonder if their scholarship program will take a hit.

That's what happens when you have a state that was run like crap for 30 years. It is starting to get turned around but man did they dig themselves into a huge hole. Chicago state sent layoff notices to everyone even the president, per state law they have to give 2 months notice or something like that so they sent to everyone and will sort out who is around after the semester is over later.

Now onto the Southland Conference... As I've read, Louisiana is having a tough time all-together.

I found this quote to be quite telling from LSU's President....

“I know a lot of people will say, ‘Well, that’s not going to happen,’” he said referring to the prospect of LSU football being hurt. "Well, that will happen if we don’t have summer school. We’ll only have half of our football team eligible.”

The recent theme of using football to garner attention for worst-case scenarios to higher education has been widely criticized by many legislators who have stated that the rhetoric is either unrealistic or that it minimizes the importance of cuts to academics. - http://theadvocate.com/news/15034372-34/lsu-president-f-king-alexander-reiterates-yes-budget-cuts-could-harm-tigers-football-season

Well, they've already proven that not enough of them care about education, so as a practical matter, if you want to save the University system in Louisiana you have to play the football card.

Well, it's not just football. Am I the only one who remembers the press conference that UND's hockey and football coach held when UND announced higher admission standards about a decade ago? The theme was that neither team could be expected to be competitive if they were forced to abide by them. Of course, they were quickly assured that the standards weren't so much rules as guidelines.

It was kind of ironic because UND's new admission standards were no more stringent than the ones that NDSU had been operating at for years.
