Nice, so I'll ask here as the recruiting thread seems to be jumbled

This makes 12 or 13 PWO? And nice to steal one from GF

Have our FB's traditionally been walk-ons? Just seems like with the majority of colleges they don't even use them and they probably don't even get looks?

Mr. Burgundy

This one confuses me. He is a 18 year old mauler who is already weighing 250 lbs. His film is just nasty, he played like 5 positions and was dominant in Grand Forks. His Dad was an all conference performer for UND. UND is trying (and doing a good job) of establishing a TOUGH GUY team as opposed to whatever Mussman was trying to accomplish. They are basically trying to differentiate themselves from the Big Sky...which is smart. WHy wouldn't they offer this kid? He chose NDSU (walk on-school start) over PWO from Wyoming and UND. WHy wouldn't UND offer this kid a half or something. Isn't this the type kid they have to take? Maybe just to have some local flavor? My gut feel says UND would want a tough guy leading the way in their backfield being a GF kid. Anyway, this kid and his family chose to be Bison and take no promises....and I have a hunch from what I hear about his size and toughness that we will hear plenty about this kid down the road. Welcome to NDSU! I hope you enjoy it.

This is absolutely the type of you kid you HAVE to get when trying to build your program. Whether he pans out or not is entirely irrelevant. He is in your backyard, dad was a player...don't be arrogant and think you can play with the real players when you have work to do. Maybe in 2-3 years they can get away with a PWO only, but now? Don't fool yourselves, you aren't there yet.

I'm a recruiting junkie, but I didn't know anything about this kid until I heard he was at NDSU on a visit. When I watched his Hudl video, I was blown away by his physical blocking at the fullback position. I think he has a great chance to be one of our successful walk-ons and I am excited that he is a Bison!

You made a strong case for why UND should have offered him a scholarship, but I would tend to give any coaching staff the benefit of the doubt on those judgments. We don't know how many scholarships they have available, how they are budgeted by position groups/year, to say nothing of how they evaluated this particular player. We do know that recruiting is not an exact science. Some of the hottest prospects of this week will never see the field and some of the least publicized walk-ons will become key players. We do know that virtually all coaches (including at UND) put thousands of hours into the process.

For an amateur like me, I think it is a little easier to evaluate coaches based on how they relate to people rather than on their professional judgments. One of the highlights of the week for me was hearing many Bison recruits telling the media why the picked NDSU. A recurring theme was that the Bison coaches wanted to know them as a person and treated them like family. It all starts with the head coach. Coach Klieman's character consistently shines through in all of his interactions. Example, his remarks last night at the signing day party. He again deflected all praise directed at him as an individual. He methodically thanked everyone involved in the program, from his staff to the coaches' wives to the academic faculty. He always thanks the fans. It comes across as sincere because the message is consistent and heartfelt. He is a great steward of a great program. Go Bison!!

He's Jedre Cyr, only already bigger. Between him and Brock Robbins (230 pounds this past fall, I believe) from Cavalier, we have plenty of potential at FB over the next 4-5 years.

We got this kid from Grand Forks and his dad played at UND. Alo turned down a partial from UND to walk on with the Bison. That says nearly everything about the current state of each program and where they stand with in state players.

Hell, his 2014 HS highlight tape shows that he could possibly be a helluva LB for the Herd if needed.
Didn't realize until now that he is Lori (Knetter) Robbins son........Knetter was the first ever Bison womens player to be named an All-American. (1982).

Was talking to my buddy who is a coach for MSUM. He said the kid is not only a great football player, but basically a genius. Got crazy scores on his ACT and had a 4.0. He also told me something to the extent of him possibly going to MIT if given the chance. He is currently on the waiting list; I think he said around #4.

Since he signed his letter of intent to play, what would happen if he backed out and went to MIT?

Well if you go to MIT, cost to attend fall 2012 was about $60,000 per year. I do know that if the parents both have middle class jobs, you end up getting about $17,000 (equivalent to cost of an education in North Dakota). You then have to come up with $43,000 per year plus travel and other expenses. Am sure costs have gone up. It is a division three program, as in no athletic scholarships. Not sure how they handle academic scholarships with athletes.

Bisonguy
02-08-2016, 10:16 AM
You can have academic scholarships as a D3 athlete, they just have to be based solely on academic performance and available to the entire student body.

As a businessman and having hired many people, 99% of college degrees don't get you anything after the 1st job. A college degree essentially means you have the stick-to-it-ness to complete a task. MiT, Harvard & Yale law degrees and medical degrees may be in a different category, but generally, it comes down to "what have you done lately"... Get a degree at a reasonable price that doesn't have life long financial paybacks and you will be fine.

MiT, Harvard & Yale law degrees and medical degrees may be in a different category, but generally, it comes down to "what have you done lately"... Get a degree at a reasonable price that doesn't have life long financial paybacks and you will be fine.

This is so goddamn true.......why would anyone pay 6o to 80 thousand dollars to get a teaching degree from a private institution when you could get the same teaching degree at VCSU or Mayville State for half or a third of the cost.
And don't give me that bullshit argument about "Well, its means more..." As a life long educator and administrator in ND, I can say it doesn't mean diddly squat.

Yeah but there are connections to be made going to certain schools. I always thought accredited programs should teach the same material and then it's up to the individual but that is not reality. It's not what you know, its who you know.

Anyone heard anything on Zak Kuntz...is he still coming to NDSU? Or is he doing the MIT thing?

Haven't heard anything. Last I heard he was #4 on the waiting list.

I can ask his coach or him? If that isn't a violation?

Interesting question. I'm curious to know the answer. I'd say the question is OK since he has signed?
