I'm trying to look up any rule about whether or not it actually has to flip. One might think it should, common sense and all, but that could easily have been overlooked considering the utter improbability.

So, is Joe Namath off the hook now for coin flip fallacies?

I think it's absurd to want to allow the coin flip where the coin never flips. That is putting way too much in the hands of the officials. The flip needs to be random with each team having an equal chance.

You know Bill Belichick is figuring out a way to pay a ref to become an expert at flipping a coin without flipping a coin and not making the same judgement call as last's night's ref.

When something weird happens in the NFL, it gets made fun of. But when it happens to the Packers, its a crime against humanity :D

Sorry Packers fans for rubbing it in. You guys will probably go undefeated next.

No, he tried flipping the coin before Seattle got the chance to announce their choice prior to the kick-off at Super Bowl 48. All this while wearing a crazy fur jacket. Official made a nice save by catching the coin mid air.
