View Full Version : 1/16 vs SDSU

SDSU comes to Fargo this Saturday at 4:30pm. No reason to not have large crowd for this game, I just hope it will be a vocal crowd as well. Sounds like guard Jake Bittle will make his return to the line-up against us, so it should be a healthy jackrabbit group. Need to protect the home court, the Summit League is going to be grind for us all season and winning at home will be very important. Also its a big recruiting weekend for the football team, you can bet a number of recruits will be at Scheels Arena to take in the basketball game and get a feel for what Bison Nation is all about.

Lets go Bison!

All they're selling on GoBison.com for this game is SRO so apparently all the reserved seats are sold out. I'd also expect them to honor the football team at halftime. Should be the highlight of the home schedule this Saturday.

They have heat at the Scheels Center. The ice is made by machine not by having a freezing building. :)

Are they honoring the football team? I have heard rumors they are but have not seen anything official. Always a great moment when the football team gathers on the court with the trophies. The fact that they will walk out there with 5 of them this year is going to be awesome to watch.

If I am not mistaken, the FM Acro team is doing halftime tomorrow.

They had the younger ones do halftime for USD, so I think the full show is on tomorrow.

Bittle is highly doubtful for Saturday and Flatten is still out. The goal was to have Bittle back for this game but there must have been a set back. Nagy is now hoping for next week sometime. Everyone else on the team seems to be as healthy as you can be at this point. Both Parks and Marshall set career highs in scoring last night as they combined for 54 points on 22/39 (56%) shooting. I'm sure SDSU will be looking for revenge after last years game in Sioux Falls. Should be a great game.

Ah, thanks for the info, I knew they wanted to get Bittle back for this game. I just assumed he would be ready to go. Flatten is still a bit of unknown to most opponents. I am sure he is a good ball player but didnt even think to list him.

Should be a good ball game tomorrow. Jacks are very talented, really like the Daum kid.

Daum has bee a VERY pleasant surprise for this Jacks fan. His performance and potential take a little bit of the sting out of losing Deng to NDSU. I expect those two to battle for the next 3 years.

Both Marshall and Parks are struggling from the perimeter - play off them and just keep them in front of you (easy for me to say).
Marshall - 38%.....35% 3FG
Parks - 41%.....34% 3FG
I was surprised to see Tellinghuisen at 39% on the season as well.
Daum & Thiessen are their best shooters statistically.

jump shot capability. So he is really a threat in this weave offense and
with his strength can still do his post-up moves.

I totally agree on the crowd needing to step up their game. We need to be on our feet more. Students should be standing the entire game. But I've never been a fan of inserting team names at the end of the national anthem. I'm glad we don't do that. For a few moments at the beginning of the game, the national anthem unites us all. You lose that when you turn it into a cheer.

I've done the lone noisemaker thing for short stints at a couple games but it is incredibly awkward. I really think it will just take a small group of people in an area to get things going because I really think there is a decent number of people in there who want to pipe up but they don't want to pioneer it...too awkward. IF it ever starts I think it will only take a few consecutive games of good crowd noise to get to where it becomes a thing. I hope it happens though. I would love to see the BBall atmosphere become crazy. When packed out that new arena could be loud and electric. Hardest part will simply be getting it started

Good win for the men. Coming off a tough week with two losses and losing a player, they responded likely we all expected. KB is tough as nails, and clearly was motivated to elevate his game. Bison have some tough sledding ahead of them, 7 of the next 11 on the road. Starts next Thursday against a very tough IPFW team, another place we seem to struggle to play well.

As for fan atmosphere at scheels arena, certainly the lack of the student section is an issue. Being in a hockey arena the fans are a lot further away from court. The old BSA use to rock, I am not to concerned about the atmosphere once we get back to the SHAC, it will be fine and great home court advantage.

I'm at almost every game and in Sioux Falls every year I can't make others attend

Scheels arena sucks for basketball. The new digs can't open soon enough. Great game though. Bison lose that one and it would not of sat well for the remainder of the seaso.

Looked like Paul Miller had his defender posted up on the block a few times and never got the ball. He looked frustrated at times.

Paul had a couple big turnovers late again. He needs to be more careful with the ball. In fact I'd rather AJ or Khy handle it more at the end of games.

Yep...Miller gets caught at times dribbling the ball too high.

When Scheels arena is packed like it was for SDSU, it can be a good atmosphere. Sure the ends suck for viewing since you are a long ways from the court, but it is not awful. It's been a great home for Bison the past 2 years; hell, we've only lost one time there. I could have been worse, we could be playing the Civic or the BBF. With the new arena being a cozy 6,000 and wrapped around and close to the court; it will be an awesome atmosphere.

Paul is the second best ball handler on the team now that Carlin is gone. You'd rather have the ball in Khy's hands but they're going to trap him. I don't think you'd like what you saw if they made AJ a primary ball handler, he's been playing off the ball his entire career.

westnodak makes a great point, though. Not only against South Dakota State, but against most teams we are going to have a height advantage at guard. Kory doesn't really play guard but Khy is all of 6'3" and Paul is all of 6'5". Good Summit League guards are usually between 5'10" and 6'2". Marshall, Parks, Alexander, Woodside, George Hill etc.... Wolters was the exception, not the rule. Paul is going to be able to post up most of the ones and twos in this league and that's something they're going to want to take advantage of for the next few years.

When guarded by shorter guards posting up Paul and Kory could be huge. Paul wanted the ball bad when he got his guy on the block

I did find it weird that when running our motion offense, there were times where Kading and Dex were out at the top passing the ball and weaving like the guards usually do. I get that you may have size advantages with Miller in the post but I don't like seeing the bigs handling the ball like guards; which did lead to a couple turnovers.

It's all about creating mismatches. Generally when a big gets the ball out on top they're only asked to maybe take one dribble and then pass it off.

Well then he needs to start acting like it. Sick of the turnovers when they game is on the line because of his lackadaisical attitude with the ball! Richmond needs to send him a message he can understand if he isn't getting it yet.

Miller plays massive minutes and shoulders a sizable scoring load, at the end of the game he is probably a bit gassed. I think that plays a role in some of his turnovers.

Partly true. He needs to take care of the ball better for sure but others need to help. Sucks a guard left the team.

Excuse me didn't we just sweep the South Dakota schools at home? You would think we had just got swept
