Here is a new question that I don't think has been asked. If we ranked the top 10 or 15 most dominant football teams that have ever played in this state at any level, who are they and how many of them are NDSU? Most for sure, but I'm no ND high school historian.

High school? The Shanley team that was ranked 1 in the nation. 2006 Fargo South should be listed. Some of the South/St Mary's teams of 80s/early 90s were pretty good.

Beulah in high school class B from 1989(?) was undefeated, shutting out nearly all of their opponents, including in the championship game. Winning by an average score of something like 45-2. It was utter dominance.

In the late 60's and early 70's Al Dosch's St Benedicts/Emmons Central Knights in Class B were an awesome bunch. Dosch was an innovative coach with some very non-traditional offensive schemes. It was before the curent playoff system began, so championships were "unofficial". The Dockter brother (Kevin, Cam, Joel, and Jeff) and Schweigert brother fueled Zeeland Vikings of the late 70's early 80's. I think a couple of the Dockters went on to play at NDSU. Leon Opdahl coached those teams.

I believe that Watford City had some very good teams in the 80s and 90s. Didn't Fred Fridley coach them?

Cavalier gave up all of one TD the entire year in 2013 (I believe) and that was mop up time in the championship game.

New england in 9 man won I believe 3 or 4 straight state titles from 95 to 98

That was a time 9 man football had some powerhouse programs

I played against Fridley's teams in the mid 80s four times. They were all very good.

Watford City was in the Class B eleven man state championship game for something like the first 13 years it was played. They won most of those games. Go Wolves!

Fargo South was an absolute machine when I went there from 1986-1990

They had 2 losses, the 1989 Championship game and another one they had to forfeit for an ineligible player in a 44-10 win against Dickinson.

they produced a handful of DI players too as well as NDSU hall of famer Tony Satter

Pretty sure Parshall could have given them a run for their money in 96. Divide County whom we beat in regular season and they beat us in playoffs on a fumble recovery TD while we were driving on their end of the field with only a few minutes remaining. Either we would have scored or likely pinned them deep, with little time left. Next week they lost by 1 to NE-R. Divide coach said we were the toughest team they played all year as they couldn't get anything to work against us.

The most dominant team in ND history was likely Fargo Souths 4 straight undefeated seasons 1999-2002. Rare was the game that finished within 5 scores the last several years.

Wrong football though.

Burke County had a run They dominated that region for a few years, great battles with DC, Parshall, Sherwood..was good football

Lol Not even close.

Fargo Shanley won 10 championships in 11 years between 67 and 77. Sid Cichy is arguably the greatest high school coach of all time. They produced tons of college players, including Steve Cichy, who started 2 years at safety at Notre Dame. Steve Cichy never lost a game as a high school QB.

No program or team will ever touch that level of dominance again in ND.

BC was very good in 95, 96 and prior (believe it was Chad Faul years?). In 95 Parshall went 7-1 and didn't even make the playoffs due to us just squeaking by DC by 2 points in OT and losing to BC by 6 I think and BC lost to DC by less than 6 so the tie breaker went to BC/DC out of our conference. Big lines were rarely the case in Parshall in my memory, almost always relied on quick fast guys as we rarely had anyone over 200. 95-97 we only had a couple guys over 200 and MAYBE hit 230 if we were lucky. We ran a lot of sweeps and pulled guards a lot and quite a few reverses as speed was about our only advantage was to run away from the guys in the trenches as we just couldn't compete there play after play.

Yes they were. We (DLB) held them to the closed game of the year 28-0, and I think they only got scored on once by Belcourt on a bomb or something.

You CANNOT Forget about Velva's run from 2000-2010.

I hear Roger Maris was by far the greatest high school football player ever from ND. He graduated from high school football in 1952 and was recruited to play quarterback at Oklahoma. Keep in mind Oklahoma was a powerhouse in the early to mid 1950's. If memory serves me correct, he still hold the ND high school football record for most return TD's in a game at 4. My grandpa told me he was truly a man amongst boys in high school.

I dont think Velva has ever lost a game at home, thanks to their home town janitors, cooks and teachers being the refs all the time. I intercepted an out in the end zone from the far hash, receiver fell down, no one within 40 yds, running unmolested for a back breaking TD and the ref blew the whistle. play stopped, call was an inadvertent whistle = we lost. Ask Jon Dahl, he knows of what I speak lol.
