View Full Version : 1/3 Vs Denver

Bison open up the Summit League season at home on Sunday afternoon at 1pm vs Denver. Denver fell last night to the Jacks in Brookings by 9. Denver is a very slow paced team that likes to limit possessions. Their match up zone defense can cause opponents issues. Possessions are going to be premium this game and cant have a lot of empty ones. I think we can turn them over and our defense can lead to offense.

Go Bison!

Kvly is running ads for this game at 4:00 on Sunday.
I thought it was seeing the women's time, but I rewound and indeed it was the men's game at 4.

The way the radio ad is worded is a bit confusing as it almost seems they said women's game started at 4 against SDSU.

Doubleheader tomorrow. Men's game first a 1pm then the women follow at 4pm.

I think it's a way to boost the attendance for the women's game. If they played first, nobody would show up.

Thought Dupree played really well today, kids can pout when they get moved to the bench but Carlin responded and played his best game of the season. Says a lot about him personally and says a lot about the kind of kids NDSU recruits across the board...the bottom line is they want to win and are committed to the team.

Now to get ready for Thursday and polar opposite that is Omaha.

Never expected NDSU to score 75 against Denver, but major fail

Only 3 offensive rebounds for DU and 14 defensive. I know they don't tend to crash the boards often but still impressive. Also helped that we made a lot of shots.

Richman said bad match up for Dylan and will be back in the starting line up vs Omaha. Guessing similar for Clements but no comment was mentioned about him.

I thought it was pretty cool when one of Denver's starters got a decent ovation from the Bison crowd when he was announced pre-game.... because his home town is Frisco, TX.

Not sure about you guys but I've been really impressed with Coach Richman. Makes me wonder if we could have beat San Diego State with him running the show.

Was he going to play defense? They had no one to match up with their guard

Better chance than Saul. Some of his coaching decisions were costly in that game

Saul refused to feed the ball down low to Marshall vs San Diego State... allowed Taylor Braun to just chuck it. :( Richman has 2 bad losses already this year and we are only 9-4 ( 2 wins vs d3, naia don't count)

Great TEAM effort for the Bison today; good game by Khy getting start at PG. Also, nice response by Carlin coming off the bench looking to provide scoring from the bench.
DEFENSE becomes more of a factor in conference games reason why didn't see Clements and D Miller during game---guys will have to prove it in practice to get on court
Coach Richman likes to shrink bench in conference play

If I remember correctly, Richman wanted to make a schematic change early in the second half, and Saul wanted to stick with what got them there. I don't know for sure where I heard that but to me it kind of makes sense on the kind of coaches they are. I think Saul is really good at recruiting and building up a program and keeping everything solidified. Richman seems to be a really good x's and o's coach. I think the defense was much better and more of a focus under Saul, but Richman really makes good adjustments in games and really looks at little nuances that they can use to their advantage in how they matchup. I also think Richman is really good at using the advantages of his players and it seems to me that the things they want to do offensively and defensively change a lot more depending on what personnel is in the game.

Denver's leading scorer was a FR from Cretin Derham-Hall HS
(Joe Mauer among its alums), 6' 3" G Jeff Rosga.
On a side note, CDH hired Brooks Bollinger as it's new head football coach.
That might have brought a smile to Bubba's face.
IIRC Bollinger's Dad was a coach at Grand Forks U. Brooks went on
from Grand Forks Central to play QB for Wisconsin and got a few years in the NFL.

Last year in the regular season, it took overtime both games to beat Denver. This year....not so much. Really impressed with what this team is doing with young players. The starting lineup had 2 sophmores and a true freshman!! 31 straight at home!! Pretty impressive.

The crew that setup the basketball floor for the Sunday games must have been hungover. The center line of the floor was at least six feet south of the center of the arena.

Hey I wasn't out of it then. I thought I was usually closer to the center than what I actually was on Saturday. I sat and looked at it then did the WTF.
