January 7th Update (last)

Pandemonium! The market has collapsed, well, not really.
Trades below $50 for tickets.

Wouldn't pay more than face

There will be many tickets floating around between now and kickoff.

January 5th Update.

Here we are. Electronic trades for <$80.
JSU athletic department apparently decided to not return tickets to the NCAA.
JSU fans who overbought trying to find homes. Anybody want 8? (Are you f'n kidding me?)

Still wouldn't pay more than $75 for tickets from here on out (end zone, far sideline, single or doubles).

January 3rd Update.

Into the home stretch. Buyers market. Prices continue to fall.
Expect electronic trades less than $125. Small number of doubles selling for less than $75.
Trades among bison fans should be not much more than face/transaction fees.

Wouldn't pay more than
Monday- Wednesday 75
Thursday-Saturday - Face

December 29th Update.

People are impatient and need to chill out. No big surprises.
I think there are still a few hundred tickets being held by scalpers that will need to be unloaded in the next week.
The highest prices likely passed this morning at 10.30.
SRO's are available in abundance.

Price outlook --unchanged.

2 tickets, end zones/far sidelines.

$100-150 Through 1/3
$75-125 Through 1/5
<$75 Game day

Up to double for good sideline tickets.

Original Post.

I think this year's ticket market will be very similar to last years.

The NCAA has sold out.

NDSU will obviously sell out its allotment.

Jacksonville State will likely sell out its allotment before getting into sales to the general public.

NDSU: Lots in interest in being in attendance for a potential five peat, but there are always folks who drop out from one year to another. So slightly stronger demand for the Bison.

Jacksonville is about the same distance to Frisco as Illinois State. They have a solid fan base. Diehards will be there. But don't over emphasize their attendance - they sell tickets for as low as $10 the day prior to a game. It's a different fan who will spend $1,000 or four days to go to TX. Their classes begin on January 6th, meaning many students will be watching from Alabama. If they had 23,000 fans yesterday who paid $50 each, I would be scared as a fan without a ticket.

I don't think they will be any more aggressive than the Redbirds in the secondary market.

I think there are scalpers with as many as a 1,000 tickets, who are loving the action right now.

I think there will be fewer tickets on the street in Frisco.

What to do if you don't have a ticket?

1. Put out feelers. There are extra tickets out there. People who hoped to go won't, folks who bought an extra ticket or two might not need them. People need to know you're in the market.

2. Wait.

If you can stand it.

If you can't stand it, pay $300 today.

If you can stand anything, pay $50 at the gates in Frisco.

If want tickets in a large group >4, good luck, you'll need to be more patient or pay more.
If you want tickets at midfield, good luck.

I think there are still 2,000 to 3,000 tickets that will be traded.

Price outlook

2 tickets, end zones/farend sidelines.

$150-200 Through 12/27
$100-150 Through 1/3
$75-125 Through 1/5
<$75 Game day

Up to double for good sideline tickets.

My assessment posted to AGS last year///

Wild guesses. Today.

NDSU allotment 3,300
ISUr allotment 3,300
Presales owned by NDSU fans 10,000
Presales owned by likely resellers 2,400
Presales owned by others (locals, other fans) 2,000

At the end of the day it will look like
NDSU allotment 3,300
ISUr allotment 3,300
Presales owned by NDSU fans 13,000
Presales owned by ISUr fans 700
Presales owned by others 700

Replace ISUr with JSU and I think it's pretty close to what we'll see.

NDSU allotment (general, band, student) 3,500/350/200
JSU allotment 3,500/350/200
Presales owned by NDSU fans 10,000
Presales owned by likely resellers 1,500
Presales owned by others (locals, other fans) 1,500
Up to 1,500 SRO

At the end of the day it will look like
NDSU allotment 4,000
jsu allotment 4,000
Presales owned by NDSU fans 12,000
Presales owned by jsu fans 500
Presales owned by others 500
1,000 SRO

That may be how many they're selling to boosters & others.

They get 3,500 per the NCAA manual.

Even though I don't need tickets, I am well aware of an immediate demand for 50 and then the countless requests for tickets on Bisonville. He is doing us (as well as himself) a favor by giving us a heads up. Or would you prefer these tickets go to Jacksonville?

Received this in an email from the NCAA.

ADDITIONAL TICKETS TO BE RELEASED TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29
Additional tickets, primarily standing room only tickets will be released on Tuesday, December 29 at 11 a.m. ET at NCAA.com/FCS. A very limited number of reserve seats may also be included, but demand is expected to exceed supply.

Also received the email indicated above. With the demand on bisonville would think these will go fast. Same email also said approximately half of stadium is reserved for participating schools. So the 8,000-9,000 tickets for JSU/NDSU combined is about what it has been in the past.

According to this it looks like JSU tickets are in section 122-128. If they have those entire sections it would appear that their allotment is more than 3,500

I don't think that they hold back the entire section there are spots where some are sponsors or even the 3 year ticket people... So can't just add up number in each section.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe it's the entire sections. Just sections of sections... Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, if it's anything like last year they're not allotting full sections like they did the first 3 years. The panorama from last year gives a good idea of where the ISUr allotment was:

http://ep.yimg.com/ay/panoramaplanet/ndsu-bison-fcs-panoramic-2015-frisco-5.jpg

So they probably had their allotment spread out over 5-6 sections also (maybe sections 105-111 or so) but it wasn't nearly the full sections except right in the middle of the allotment.

1,000 go to their band. :)

The band only gets what is available in the north endzone. Those wooden bleachers next to the trophy under the "Toyota Stadium" awning.
They might, and i stress MIGHT get 200 in those stands. I'm not 100% sure but i don't think the band factors into the 20,500 attendance numbers.
Their band is BIG, so they will have to trim it down to fit. WE on the other hand are good to go!

The band gets 350 tickets for free + up to the school's general allotment (3,500 tickets).

The band is big and they will be taking up 500ish seats.

Get a real job? You do know that there are many people who make a great living being ticket brokers right? And also, every single business that you go to and buy stuff from, is just marking up the price from the manufacturer?.....they are all middle men. It's called capitalism. And it's fucking great.

Yeah, a lot of these brokers really bet on the Bison by guaranteeing purchase of these tickets years in advance. Their risk, their reward. The ones who use tech to game the system though and sneak out a haul of tickets? I can't vouch for those guys.

From the NCAA: http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/2016DIFTBL_CHAMPPARTMANUAL_20151209.pdf

Ticket Allocations.
1. Bands. Each participating institution will receive 350 tickets in addition to their total allotment for their band. These seats have been “killed” and will not be considered part of the institution’s overall ticket allotment or be charged back to the school. However, any seats needed by a band in addition to the 350 will be at charged at face value to the institution. If demand requires additional seating needs, the bands will be placed on the stage instead of in the stands.

Updated outlook.

Tickets trading $100+ online.

JSU made it to the general public with their allotment.

Demand from JSU appears to be weaker than ISUr last year.

Will be interesting to see if many JSU tickets make it to the secondary market.

Get a real job? You do know that there are many people who make a great living being ticket brokers right? And also, every single business that you go to and buy stuff from, is just marking up the price from the manufacturer?.....they are all middle men. It's called capitalism. And it's fucking great.

Whatever Dan. My point is real Bison fans don't fuck other real Bison fans for tickets. I could give two shits less as I have mine but am looking for 5 for loyal Bison fans. Again I hope you have to eat them. Brokers are scum!

I take it your friends didn't assume any risk and purchase tickets when they were available and now want others who did assume the risk to eat the market value because it is all in the name of being a good sport? This makes zero sense to me. It makes even less sense when there where still tickets available before the semis. I think the feeling should be more like real Bison fans are prepared and take the hit like other real Bison fans if they don't make it. Otherwise, if for whatever reason they have extra tickets, the value is no longer the price paid for them. That does work both ways.

Settle down bud. The market is what it is.

Now, for your friends or anyone looking, there are few things that are going to work in your favor in the next couple weeks. 1. They are releasing SRO on Tuesday (most of us are going to stand most of the game anyway) try for these, if you don't get them it still will free up some demand. 2. People will start giving up on tickets and just plan on staying back. 3. Fans that have tickets cancel their plans.

Patience pays the least in this game.

That's are a lot in category 3. People who were all excited about the Bison winning and planned on going getting cold feet when they get close to leaving their house for 4 or 5 days.

Also people aren't catching on that big brokers and the ncaa that is in bed with the big brokers are only leaking tickets out as fast or slow as the market dictates, keeping the demand artificially high by limiting supply. It is funny how tickets show being sold but there are always about the same number available from day to day.

I would also Google a website called all of craigslist. It searches every craigslist listing everywhere. A lot of people will try to put something on there first before selling on stubhub or flashseats to avoid fees.

Not sure about this, (unconfirmed), but I was told that some of what you are seeing are tickets that are guaranteed by sponsors. Because of the high demand of this game when the Bison are in it they "buyback" then sell at full price many of these tickets.

It's impossible to know exactly where the market will be come gameday, but I'd guess around $40-$80 a ticket. That's the range they have been the last 4 years.

Well I've heard every year that it is fairly easy to get tickets at the stadium...never had to worry about it until this year because of last minute changes to my schedule.

BTW, just a reminder to everyone SRO tickets go on sale at 10 am CST. For those that have never been down there, these are not a bad option, it is a sunken bowl so there is a lot of standing room, not like the Fargodome.

There's always tickets to be had on GameDay...no concerns about that at all. Getting seller and buyer together is another story. If you don't have tickets, you'll just need to crash every tailgate and ask for tickets. May take a little time and could be unnerving, but you could also have cheap game tickets by 8 am.

BisonEngrGirl

We've purchased tickets on game day twice, and the other two years we passed by multiple people selling tickets as you walk into the game. They weren't badly priced either, around $60 or so depending on the location. The longer you wait the cheaper the price!

You can see on both flash seats and stubhub actual sales, and yes some people pay those prices. If the price is worth it to make sure you've got your seat, by all means do it. But prices will fall for the patient.

I have to ask, are these real sales? The reason I ask is of price fixing that goes on everywhere via internet. So Airlines and Fanduel/draft kings are in class actions (in Fanduel case legal action) in regards to how they manipulate prices.

So just recently for AC/DC concert, my first two "best seats" were section 14. southwest corner of the arena. 3 minutes later, section 18, about 50 yard line. Then section 45, 20 minutes after tickets went on sale. The section 45 tickets are pretty good. So you have ticketmaster or inforumtix whoever manipulating allocation of the tickets. Obviously best available at 10:05 wasn;t best available.

So going back to my question, do you really know anyone that has sold their tickets for $300 a piece as noted on Flash seats or paid that much. I know el chapo is trying to hawk some, but he isn't getting any takers. Needs to pay for the spirit air flight some way.

There are way less tickets for sale on the secondary sites than at the same time last year. 142 tickets on stubhub, 107 on flashseats. Roughly triple that total were available at this time last year.

Is the demand there? People that want tickets, have been pretty smart in obtaining them early, three year package, etc...

There will be a lot of people from Fargo in Frisco, don't get me wrong, but is there the mad chase to get tickets as years previously? Im not implying anything, just asking the vibe on the street.

I think the Stbhub transactions are legit. Stubhub takes a hefty commission on all transactions, and I can't see people taking the hit on fake transactions. The lower number of available tickets this year backs up that there has been higher actual demand.

Last year the demand seemed fairly weak compared to previous years. I kinda expected similar demand to last year, but that's not the case, not sure why. The Towson year the demand fell off significantly after we got into their allotment. The first year was the craziest for ticket prices. I'd probably peg this year fairly similar to SHSU 2.0.

Since the first year when we were newbies to the whole process, seems there are many more on here seeking tickets than years 2, 3, 4 imo. Have to believe there are segment of fans that look for tickets for say a week but don't come across them and decide not to go every year because they didn't "plan" ahead, or sadly even realize you could plan ahead??

Will be interesting to find out how this goes closer to game.

Many just didnt buy them when they became available. Some had been there for the last 4 so 5 wasnt that big of a deal or---been there done that. Then you have a team that was very young and playing inconsistent. Then you have the noobs that didnt realize you could buy tickets by going to the NCAA website. Hell you have people who are on this site that still dont know the process.

Ticket availability will be tighter than ever this year. Wait until after Monday when hundreds of Bison fans find they did not make the cut on NDSU's allocation. I bought my tickets from flashseats and paid a small premium for great seats. Not worth it to risk waiting for unknown seats and pricing just to save $50 a ticket.

Another thing to add regarding the SRO tickets, last year they sold out fairly quickly and a lot of them were bought and listed on flash seats within minutes. Then the NCAA re-opened selling more SRO tickets a couple hours later. There was a time people were trying to get $100+ for SRO and at the same time you could buy them on the NCAA site for face. I think a few people trying to make a quick buck ended up eating or taking a loss on some SRO tickets last year.

The take away, if you're looking and don't get any keep checking the site throughout the day and don't panic and pay inflated prices. Ticket prices will quietly fall from Tuesday until gameday, IMHO.

Got 4. Can someone please explain how the points work? My understanding is that you gain points from year to year and they keep building. When you get tickets for an event like this your points don't get "knocked" down do they? So say I have 500 points and I get 4 tickets I don't lose points do I? Just a question me and a co worker were talking about.

Short answer: you don't lose any points for buying tickets

Right, but the same amount of points or even more than last year COULD put you farther down the list if others raised their points by more. The old system used to show points AND ranking, but now I only see points.

That might have had something to do with the quantity requested.

I called & asked that question... & the person who answered the phone said: "No, you should be able to request your # of season tickets, even if it is 10."
(I said that didn't wk for us last year.) This year I only requested 4 & rec'd a positive email!

I requested 1 and recd it. I have never recd a ticket before, not sure if that means demand is down or not.
Actually I have never been close before in the bottom number that did get tickets.

Or if a lot of people did not take the chance and bought in August.

You can request UP TO 12 tickets if you have 12 season tickets. If you have 20 season tickets you still can only get 12. If you have 2 you can only get 2.

I've often wondered whether Stub Hub and certain brokers "sell" tickets to each other in order to make it look like there is a market for high priced tickets.

Eh. The question is really 'How down?'

If we only bring 15 thousand fans instead of 17 thousand, is that a down year? Or do we have to get down to to ten thousand mark? Someone was buying lots of tickets back in August when I bought mine. Maybe it was places like Montana, (snort) and the Redbirds (I can respect that)... but I'd bet the majority still went to Bison Fans.

Also, if you've been to a few of these you know that you can probably find tickets right up to the opening bell right in the tailgate lots. So I could totally see a lot of people not trying to go after the NDSU allotment, but already having tickets elsewhere. I know I've had to remind my dad every time we've gone to an FBS school (K-State, Iowa State, etc.) to at least *try* to get part of the NDSU allotment. If you don't we can always stub hub it.. And if you do, at least we'll be around Bison Fans.

We've had surprising luck with that and I know our total points are pretty low. Just depends on the demand.

Attendance will be fine..........nice that some teammakers near the 100 point mark will be able to get tickets. All of NDSU's allotment will be taken by teammakers. Outside of the allotments this game will be more difficult to get tickets than any of the first 4 natty's.

Another thing that makes me think that Stub Hub is "in bed" with brokers is how many tickets are listed on Stub Hub immediately after (or even before) tickets go on sale.

It is so convoluted it would take forensic auditors and programmers to keep up. The NCAA and schools are in bed with their "sponsored" secondary market brokers who they are preselling or promising tickets to and those guys are linked to other brokers because it is the same tickets on multiple sites for different dollar amounts. They have to be linked because if one site is in the middle of a transaction, it has to freeze the tickets on another. It is a mess. The NCAA wants people to buy the tickets and then turn around and sell them again on their sponsored sites because they get paid twice, so they are party to keeping the supply in line with high demand and releasing tickets in blocks rather than all at once. The NCAA gets a kickback for every ticket sold on Flashseats, for example, so they are getting paid twice for every ticket that is sold and sometime more than twice if someone resells it again using that service. It is an artificially created high demand market. There are probably another 15 angles I haven't even thought of yet they are already doing. Stubhub is just another level where they use their partnerships with schools and teams to do their part in driving up demand by gaming supply with the tickets they have direct control over. They have a vested interest in fans getting the highest prices because of their cut.

By the way, Stub Hub is a broker, they are just sanctioned as resellers with everyone they have a contract with and just a secondary market for the open market. Some teams and schools use them as their direct source for selling tickets like ticketmaster or other services.

I think with the ncaa, brokers are buying them like normal Joe schmoe is and reselling. For individual schools, like UTexas, who has a partnership with stubhub, they sell directly. In this case, with frisco tickets, the brokers bought them and are controlling the distribution to heighten demand. From everything I read, for events the NCAA are directly involved with tickets, they would dump tickets directly into the secondary market if they weren't selling. Otherwise, brokers went on to the ncaa page and bought them in August like everyone else.

I do know a large portion of these tickets out there are still being held by brokers because I have seem the same tickets being sold in multiple sites.

I thought they started out that high, but I seem to remember they dropped in price as the game got closer. I don't think they ever sold out of SRO.

I meant was the face value $40? That seems high for SRO, I paid $35 for a seat.

Haha, I'm not to worried about it. If we stand, we stand. During the Towson game we sat in the concourse of the end zone on that long bleacher seat for disabled folks. Had the whole bench to ourselves and put our feet up on the railing in front of us. Besides, according to CAS, attendance will be down this year so there'll be some empties around.

This is exactly what they did last year. Sold some seats and few SRO then said they were Sold Out. Then re-opened SRO. I'm not sure why they do that, it really just screws over the really panicky people who see sold out and then reward some scalper for $100. I really think that they could sell a 1000 SRO tickets and everyone could find a spot to watch the game the way the stadium is set up.

I picked up a pair as "in the building insurance" so if I sell my good seats on the JSU side, I'm still in. They are pretty easy to get rid of at face value.

There has already been a few SRO tickets sold on the secondary market at a loss, probably a two, three dollar loss and the buyer still probably paid more then face+fees with the flash seat commission.

Also, 3 endzone row 3 tickets sold this morning for $60. If you're still looking download the flash seats app and check it frequently.

To be honest, I can take my two SRO tickets, and flip my actual seats at enough of a profit that I can buy suite passes. Anyone tried those? I hear it's not bad up there.

Except me. I'm counting on this scenario. Wife and I are going regardless and using it as a trip. We haven't done anything in like a year and a half. If something comes up closer to face value I'll jump on it or I'll get two at the game. Worst case we watch it in a bar down there.

Looks like you can easily get SRO's on ncaa.com now. Flashseats is filled with people selling SRO's and they are going to have to eat those prices as long as the ncaa.com is continuing to sell them. Feel bad for the people who panicked and bought SRO"s for $100 off of flashseats.

If I can find two people to drive so I don't have to, I will give them each a SRO ticket, a bunk in my RV, and free transportation down and back. RV stays parked on Thursday and Friday night and use Uber. Leave late Wednesday morning, leave after the game, and everyone drives a little bit in the way back so we get back on Sunday at a decent time. Only expense would be whatever someone spends outside the RV.

Apparently JSU folks didn't take up the NCAA offer to buy tickets back in August or 10 minutes after the brackets were announced in November.

I checked out their board this morning, and they're now thinking the band has section 120 & 121 because there is no way for them to fit in only one plus the stage and two band directors are telling people different sections. They're also telling people to show up Friday night to watch the band walkthrough.

These guys know the trip is for a football game, right?
