I can count 5 tossups in there. I think if NDSU pulls the redshirts on Fogarty and Nielson they could flip the score. Should be a good dual.

125 - Rodriguez DEC Herrmann 3-0 NDSU
133 - DiCamillo MD ???? 4-3 Virginia
141 - Friedman DEC Krivus (tossup) 6-4 NDSU
149 - Ream DEC Miller (tossup) 9-4 NDSU (Ream pinned him early last year)
157 - Harrell DEC ???? (tossup) 9-7 NDSU (Fogarty could win here if he doesn't RS)
165 - Peppelman DEC McNutt (tossup) 10-9 Virginia
174 - Virginia DEC NDSU (tossup) 13-9 Virginia (Nielson could win here if he doesn't RS, Virginia has a good RS here as well Fox Baldwin)
184 - Zillmer TF ???? 14-13 NDSU
197 - Nye MD Paxton 17-14 Virginia
285 - Gillen DEC Tyanan 21-14 Vriginia

I could see both Ream & Bengsten weighing in at 149 with one of them moving up to wrestle 157. I think it's too early in the year to make the decision to pull a Redshirt.

I'm not a fan of pulling redshirts either, I hope that's what they do.

It would sure be nice if they had a coach's podcast or something so the fans had an idea what's going on....

The Virginia Coach does a weekly podcast. It's pretty informational. I wonder if anyone else does? Go Bison.

Gophers Assistant Eggum did one last year each week, I assume he will be doing the same, just maybe haven't started yet, we will see.

SDSU has Jacked up monday with an assistant coach as well.

Coach Bono typically releases a "Jacked Up" Podcast and multiple video updates a week and is very active on social media. That is the one area that frustrates me about NDSU and is an area where SDSU is excelling.

I would love to see NDSU do a podcast or weekly video segment. I think things like this that can be posted to a social media board helps promote the sport. I firmly believe that the wrestling community in general, although getting better at it over the last few years, has done a poor job in the promotion of the sport to the mainstream sports fan. If we expect to maintain and grow the sport we have to become more active in the social media promotion of the sport itself. I applaud Bono in his social media efforts to promote SDSU wrestling. The more positive stories that we can put out there to the mainstream sports fan the more chances we have to draw them into the wrestling cult that we all love.

I mentioned how SDSU and Gophers do a weekly podcasts to the NDSU wrestling twitter account. Hopefully it doesn't fall on deaf ears.

Okay, folks you have to admit, how cool is it that Virginia is coming to Fargo for any sport? And how cool is it seeing the B12 logo on wrestling stuff?

I'm pretty excited for tomorrow. A lot of new faces in the starting lineup and a good chance to beat a quality opponent. Virginia should be favored to win the dual, but I have hope still. Hard to tell what the matchups are going to be this early in the year, but I think the likeliest path to victory is with wins at 125, 141, 149, 157, 184, and then an upset at either 165 or HWT. I expect UVA bonus at 133 and 174 and possibly at 197 and 165. I expect bonus from NDSU at 184 and possibly at 149/157 if Ream can do damage on top.

Here's what I'm going with based on projected lineups. Hoping for some upsets or bonus points! If we can manage winning both 149 and 157 somehow it could be 18-17 Virginia and a bonus point or two in there would win it for us.

125 - Rodriguez DEC Herrmann 3-0 NDSU
133 - DiCamillo MD O'Brien 4-3 Virginia
141 - Friedman DEC Watson (tossup) 6-4 NDSU
149 - Ream DEC Miller (tossup) 9-4 NDSU (Ream pinned him early last year)
157 - Atkinson DEC Bengston 9-7 NDSU (I won't count out Bengston here, we may see Nehring too I'm not sure? Could see Ream and Bengston flip flop here too...)
165 - Peppelman DEC McNutt (tossup) 10-9 Virginia
174 - Askey DEC Blake Thompson (tossup) 13-9 Virginia (Virginia has a good RS here as well Fox Baldwin, not sure what their plan with him is)
184 - Zillmer TF Schany 14-13 NDSU
197 - Nye MD Paxton 17-14 Virginia
285 - Gillen DEC Tyanan 21-14 Vriginia

Article from UVA's website.

http://www.virginiasports.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/110515aaa.html

125 - Rodriguez DEC Herrmann 3-0 NDSU
133 - DiCamillo MD O'Brien 4-3 Virginia
141 - Friedman DEC Watson (tossup) 6-4 NDSU
149 - Ream/Bengsten DEC Miller (tossup) 7-6 NDSU ( If it's Ream I think we could pick up bonus points here)
157 - Ream/Bengsten DEC Atkinson 10-6 NDSU(I agree it may see Nehring as well)
165 - Peppelman DEC McNutt (tossup) 10-9 NDSU ( I would not be surprised to see McNutt win here, I think he will surprise a lot of people especially early in the season)
174 - Askey DEC Blake Thompson (tossup) 13-10 Virginia (Virginia has a good RS here as well Fox Baldwin, not sure what their plan with him is)
184 - Zillmer TF Schany 14-10 NDSU
197 - Nye MD Paxton 14-14 Virginia/NDSU
285 - Gillen DEC Tyanan 17-14 Vriginia

If we win either HWT or 165 I think we can pull the upset over VA. Bonus points will be the other key.

I know its not in NDSUs best interest for winning today, but I hope UVA doesn't redshirt Fox Baldwin and has him in there today. Dude won nearly 400 matches, had over 300 falls, and 5 state titles in high school. He was also #8 in the HS pound for pound rankings at the end of last year by Flo.

Peppleman was a big time recruit, but his results were pretty good, but not great last year. McNutt could definitely win that one but he'll have to perform really well.

CP over at Flo is pretty big on Watson at 141, so I'm hoping Friedman can get the W, but I'm starting to think that is a tossup at best.

I really hope McNutt makes the jump this year like Ream did last year, that will help a ton, especially in today's dual like you said.

Looks like a pretty shitty effort overall. Could be a long year for team results. They didn't seem to have any energy but maybe its because of all the matches last week and a noon start.

That was a rough one today, but Virginia is a pretty solid team.

125- Rodriguez did enough to get bonus points, but the concerning thing for me was his performance on bottom. That has been a trouble spot for him and he got rode pretty well again. I hope Kish puts him down when its his choice in every open tournament and early season dual. He looked ok on his feet and was very good on top.
133- O'Brien did some things well, he just went up against a superior wrestler. The effort was encouraging, and I'm hopeful he'll be alright this year.
141- Friedman did a lot of little things wrong and they added up. There are some things to build on, but at this level, if you don't execute the little things, you're not going to be successful. This was a match he could have won, but instead it got kind of ugly.
149- Bengston got a win over a quality opponent. His stamina also looked much improved up a weight. On the down side, the match shouldn't have gone to OT and the offense was missing for most of the match. There is no excuse for both not getting that takedown when he was behind miller on their feet to put the match away and for giving a takedown up out of that same scenario. The aggression out of the front head was missing too, which has been his bread and butter. Despite all of that, he found a way to win against a quality opponent.
157- Ream didn't look like himself. I still have faith he'll be in the mix to AA at 149 by the end of the year. Also, this is a great example of why you don't see guys bumping up weights in duals. Atkinson isn't a big 157, but he got to weigh in there and Clay weighed in at 149. I'd still like to see Bengston at 141, Ream at 149, and Nehring at 157.
165- This was very ugly. Peppleman was able to do whatever he wanted.
174- This was very ugly too.
184- Zillmer looked solid. Would've liked to see some a little more aggressiveness early, but that's just splitting hairs. The stall call against Zillmer was just awful and made NO sense
197- The effort was there, but Nye was just the far superior wrestler. My only real complaint is that if you're going to try a headlock, don't half ass it, commit to it. This was my first time seeing Paxton wrestle, and I'm hoping to see some offense out of him at the Bison Open.
HWT- Highlight of the dual from the NDSU side. Tynan moved well, took some good shots (and some bad ones), and battled back from a 3rd period deficit to win in OT. He's not the biggest or strongest guy, so he'll have to be careful about when he shoots and goes underneath some bigger HWTs. Gas tank, effort, and quickness weren't issues for him.

Overall, a very disappointing end to the dual after a pretty good start. UVA hit some tilts for 4 that completely changed some matches. Biggest area where I think NDSU needs work is on the bottom. Could throw better movement on their feet to get some better shot angles, but that wasn't too bad.

I know it isn't relating to this dual, but a bunch of guys went to the Grand View Open, and some did very well. Most notably, Fogarty won the tile at 157. Harrington took 2nd at 174, falling to a very good Jake Residori (#24 at 174 according to wrestlestats) of SIUE. Nielson took 3rd at 174, and lost to that same Residori, giving him his only close match on the day, falling 4-2. No idea if one of them will grow into a 184 next year, but if the staff doesn't think one of them will, they might as well pull one of their redshirts.
