Key FCS Games
Montana at Portland State 4:05 p.m. Big Sky TV- Montana continues their quest to crawl back into the FCS playoff picture while PSU looks to stay on top of the Big Sky. Last week third string QB Makena Simis torched UND's defense for six touchdowns but now he will get his first big test, on the road against a PSU defense that kept a solid Pac 12 offense contained. The Griz defense will also have to try to contain a red hot PSU offense that has scored 66, 57 and 38 points in its past three games. Montana will need to play one of its best games of the season to win at PSU.
Coastal Carolina at Charleston Southern 6:00 p.m ASN Affiliates, Big South Network- CCU has been barely getting by mediocre teams the past few weeks and now they finally get a tougher test against Charleston Southern. Yeah, CSU actually looks decent this year having taken down a solid Citadel team and only has one loss to FBS Troy. With Liberty having gone into tank this game will more or less decide who wins the Big South.
WCU at Chattanooga 1:00 p.m. ESPN3- WCU and The Citadel are all that stand between Chattanooga and repeating as SoCon champs in 2015. For WCU this game is their last shot at staying in the SoCon race having lost their SoCon opener to The Citadel. With Texas A&M still on their schedule the Catamounts cannot afford to drop another game, so for their playoff hopes this is truly a massive game. Chattanooga has kind of been like CCU this year, winning but not dominating. Will this be the week a team finally slips them up?
South Dakota at UNI 1:00 p.m. ESPN3, Comcast Chicago UNI like Montana continues their quest to get back into the FCS playoff race. With four losses already UNI cannot afford to lose another game meanwhile for USD if they can pull off another road upset they have two of their three remaining games at home giving the Yotes a shot getting seven DI wins. This game really boils down to QB play, Aaron Bailey has been hot and cold for UNI while the same can be said of Ryan Saeger of USD. Both are highly counted on to make plays for their team, I don't see either team winning if their QB plays poorly.
FCS Game of the Week
JMU at William and Mary 3:00 p.m. NBCSN- With Vad Lee this will be a true test to see how the Dukes can handle some serious adversity. The next man up to lead JMU through it will be Bryan Schor. Last week Schor did lead the Dukes to a TD that got JMU within three points of Richmond at the end of the game. He is a capable QB but lacks the dynamic playmaking ability that Lee had. Schor will be facing a very tough task, against a W&M defense that can be very tough, especially at home.
It should be interesting to see how JMU's offense responds in this new post Vad Lee world. The Dukes have a pair of talented backs in Khalid Abdullah and Cardon Johnson, who together average over 180 yards on the ground and have scored 18 touchdowns. With Lee gone both will need to carry more of the load, JMU's defense will also have stiffen up, having an offense that scores almost 50 points a game with Lee obviously made life easy for them. A track meet will be much harder to win now.
