Key FCS Games
UNI at SDSU 2:00 p.m. Midco, ESPN3, ESPN College Extra- UNI is basically down to their last playoff stand, five losses will not cut it with the FCS playoff committee no matter how good your schedule is. If UNI can get by the Jacks their schedule becomes much more favorable down the home stretch. What is exciting about this match up is the battle of the running QBs. Aaron Bailey as most NDSU fans know can take one to the house quickly if he can get into the second level of a defense and new SDSU QB Taryn Christion has rushed for close to 180 yards while finding the endzone twice in two games as a starter. Christion is also a solid passer who enjoys the luxury of getting to throw the ball to Jake Wieneke, if UNI is going to win they Bailey will need to be more than just a runner.
NDSU at Indiana State noon ESPN3, ESPN College Extra- With Carson Wentz out for the regular season, it it time for Easton Stick to take the reigns of the Bison offense. He is leading a Bison offense that will be looking to get back to dishing out a beating to opponents on the ground. ISUB has given up over 180 yards rushing per game, so their defense is certainly exploitable. SDSU freshman QB Taryn Christion tore up the Sycamore defense in his first career start a few weeks ago.
But even if Stick can get some traction against the ISUB defense, the Bison defense will need to figure out some of their own issues against a running QB. While Matt Adams is not Aaron Bailey of UNI he is a competent rusher, averaging about 50 yards per game and combine that with his solid passing skills and you have a combo the young Bison defense has struggled with in 2015. If NDSU's defense can't correct their issues, a lot of pressure will be on first time starter Easton Stick to put points on the board.
Western Illinois at Illinois State 2:00 p.m. Comcast Sports Chicago- The Leathernecks dealt a huge blow to UNI at the UNIDome on homecoming last weekend and now they will be looking to crash another homecoming party this time in Normal. This could easily be the game of the week, the Leathernecks have been very tough in 2015 and their only FCS blemish is a tough loss at CCU. Meanwhile ISUR is undefeated against the FCS but has survived a few very close calls. Redbird QB Tre Roberson has been rounding back into form, he threw for over 300 yards last week at MSU, ISUR will need his passing skills because they will be facing a very balanced WIU team. Norvel and Watson are arguably the best QB-RB tandem going in the Valley right now.
North Dakota at Montana Root Sports 2:30 p.m. NW/RM, Direct TV 101- This is the Big Sky TV game of the week and with both teams fighting for their playoff lives it should be a good watch. One thing going for the Griz is that UND's passing defense has been leaky in 2015 giving up over 260 yards per game, with a Montana team down to its third string QB that is should provide some welcome relief. What won't be any relief will be Bubba bringing some pressure. UND will also be going with their back up QB, Ryan Bartels, should be interesting to see how both QBs handle a big game for each of their respective teams.
The Citadel at Furman 12:30 p.m. ESPN3- Much like the UND/UM game this is a game that could greatly hamper the playoff chances of the loser. Furman has an FBS win over UCF but also three losses, The Citadel has two losses but has yet to face Chattanooga and South Carolina of the SEC, two very tough games. The key to watch in this game is Furman's rush defense vs Citadel's potent option attack, the Bulldogs average over 340 yards on the ground per game and like all option attacks once it gets going it is hard to stop.
FCS Game of the Week
Richmond at James Madison 2:30 p.m. Comcast Sports CA- Get up its Gameday! ESPN decided last Sunday that they will be bringing College Gameday to JMU this weekend, it was a great choice because not only does JMU have a great FCS football atmosphere but it is a great FCS match up to showcase. The key question in this game is can Richmond slow down the JMU phenom QB Vlad Lee? Lee has is averaging close 370 total yards of offense per game and is without a doubt the most dangerous dual threat QB in the FCS.
Richmond's defense has been solid as of late but no team they have faced has JMU's firepower. Richmond does have some great players of their own on offense, including QB Kyle Lauletta who has been one of the most efficient QB's in the FCS in 2015 as well a stable of backs that are averaging over 170 yards on the ground.
