View Full Version : What to expect for USD

What are some opinions on what we expect from the Bison for the USD game??

Status quo from the offense? As in, mixed run/pass like we have seen so far. Or will Coach P try to establish the power run game? Or nothing fancy...same formula?

Defense?

USD is no UNI. I think the Bison might try to run a little more but I'm sure USD will try to take away the run. USD is still rebuilding and is not ready to beat the Bison.

The coaches will have the team ready to kick butt and that is what they will do. I think the defense will step up and handle anything USD comes up with. Maybe not a shut out but something like the Weber and UND games.....great defensive effort.

I think Carson will shred the Coyote defense.

I hope this is a game where the 2s can get some significant time.

What do you guys think?

I'd come out with 3, 4, 5 receiver sets early and often. Do we really think USD has the depth in the secondary to contain Wentz? It's not like we are going to come out and run the west coast all of a sudden, so why not put the ball in your best players hands more often than not. If nothing else, we can give D coordinators something else to worry about and perhaps get them away from scheming with 8 or 9 at the LOS. This is one game we should be able to impose our will from the get go, on both sides of the ball.

I saw a little of their game last weekend. They did an onside kick right after their first score, it was a success but they ended up punting that possession. They did use the read option and ran sometimes with no huddle, so would expect them to test the Bison defense.

If I was an opposing coach I would consider running no huddle against us. First it negates some of our depth as its hard to sub guys. Secondly, we seem to be more vanilla on defense in against no huddle. I don't see as many last second shifts. I think one of our strengths is disguising our defense and I wonder if we are less able to do that against up tempo teams.

I agree. I think what the no huddle does it puts the Bison in a base defense and you are relying on young, inexperienced guys to call the defense. Eventually they won't be inexperienced any longer.

I wonder if we will see the same fake punt like last year with 7 of the 11 players 15 yards down field. Even Joe Glenn had a good laugh at that one.

I see the same outcome as the last 4 years

I'm expecting to see some second and third stringers get some quality playing time in.

Well if there is a possibility of a "let down" game this is it. You just played our historical rival, followed by our trophy rival, followed by our real rival, and won all three...

Their coach is probably going to try some weird plays because he is probably trying to save his job at this point. Either they will catch us off guard or fail miserably.

Pass a bunch at the beginning to set up the run. Get ahead 35-0 in the 2nd quarter and then play reserves for the rest of the game. 3rd quarter should be aggressive play calling with plenty of pass attempts for Stick. Go conservative mid 4th quarter. Win game 56-0.

This would be true if ndsu didn't score the last 145 points in the past 3 games against usd

I expect that the BW3 crowd will be making alternative plans.

I can only say for certain that I think Shep takes the game off to get the shoulder right. Just my thoughts. He was only available for half of the game against UNI and Kli knew he needed him but I think he could sit him if he knows the game is safe in RJ and Vraa's hands.

Their main guy is RB Trevor Bouma. He was hurt (ankle) within the first couple of plays against YSU and played sparingly against Western Illinois. They are probably better than they have been the past few years but the Bison should still win by a few TD's.

So the student section leaves at half, wasting a seat for someone who would have stayed the whole game? too harsh?

God, I wish they had to pay like even a $5 fee for the seats or at least have to walk somewhere to get them every game like I had to.

Well, they are paying for it, they just don't appreciate it. Become a student again and then the games will be cheaper and easier to get into, right?

So do other colleges but not all of them give out student tickets.

Im sorry, that was out of frustration. Its been a long time that I've been able to make it to a game. Mostly because of tickets selling out and me sitting in an online lobby while it happens.
Last game I was able to make it to was Jensen's first time taking over the offense for an extended period of time against Morgan state I think. When Jose Mohler broke his collar bone. that was a couple years ago....

I expect that Bison fans will be wishing Sam McLeran a full and speedy recovery: http://www.goyotes.com/news/2015/10/12/FB_1012152518.aspx

The good news, as you can see form the article, is that Sam was up and walking with assistance. Get well soon, #51.

Also, I can tell what not to expect...

The student section stuff used to bother me but doesn't anymore. They pay for their tickets, they wait in line to get in. If the game is out of hand, they leave at halftime. It happened when I was a student, it's happening now and it will happen in the future. When the game is on they help provide an amazing atmosphere and energy to the game. It's a fair trade for me.

I just had to explain to my boss why I abruptly laughed at work.:rofl: That Python sketch is hilarious!
But that is probably what USD is thinking, nobody expects them to win, so nobody knows what to expect......

The Bison have three weapons at their disposal this weekend:

1. A tradition of winning
2. Home field advantage
3. Carson Wentz
4. A near maniacal following at Bisonville,

Oh, damn!!
