This is a great week of FCS football....tons of great match ups...
Winnable FBS Games
Wofford at Idaho 4:00 p.m. ESPN3- This is an interesting game, Wofford seems to be coming back into form and Idaho is well Idaho. Should be fun watching Idaho trying to stop an option offense they rarely see.
Key FCS Games
Montana at Liberty 6:00 p.m. ESPN3/ESPN College Extra- This is a big game for both teams. With CCU still in the Big South the Flames need to b concerned with doing whatever they can to make themselves an attractive at-large playoff team. A win over the Griz would do just that, for Montana this game is all about bouncing back from a tough loss at home to Cal Poly. If the Griz can go on the road and beat a tough Liberty squad it will show they are still a top tier team and worthy of a possible seed come selection Sunday.
WIU at CCU 5:00 p.m. Big South Network- The Leathernecks looked impressive easily dispatching EIU but against Illinois WIU really struggled. Meanwhile CCU grinded out a tough win against Furman in week one and then blasted SC State last weekend. This is a very tough roadtrip for WIU, back to back coming off an FBS team. If they can pull the upset it will show they are a contender in the MVFC.
Montana State at EWU 3:00 p.m. RSNW/RSRM/DTV: 101- After going to UNI and losing a tough game, the Eagles get rewarded with a game against Montana and will face QB Dakota Prukop and the Bobcats. Even worse EWU might be without star receiver Cooper Kupp, who injured his hip after racking up over 150 yards of receiving in one half against UNI. With their usual shaky defense, EWU might struggle to keep pace without their star WR.
FCS Game of the Week
Northern Iowa at Cal Poly 9:30 p.m. Comcast Sports CA/ASN- UNI's murders row of opponents continues with a game at Cal Poly. CP has looked like an FCS contender after going into Washington Grizzly stadium and knocking off the Griz and following that up with a gritty loss against Arizona State of the Pac 12. The Mustangs have their high octane option offense rolling, averaging over 300 yards of rushing per game. QB Chris Brown runs the option with expertise and can gouge teams with his legs but he can get a little inconsistent thru the air.
UNI is running a QB tandem with Sawyer Kollmorgen making defense prep for his arm and Aaron Bailey forcing defense to focus on his legs. The duo was very effective against EWU, with Bailey rushing for over 100 yards and Kollmorgen throwing for just over 100 yards. Cal Poly's defense is a bit more stout than EWU, it will be intersting to see how Farely plays the two QB's this week. One thing going for UNI is its stout rushing defense, allowing only 51 yards per game in 2015 but with teams gouging them via the air that stat will be put to the test this weekend. With road games against ISUR and NDSU still on the horizon, this is a big game for UNI. A loss would leave them with little breathing room.
